1. Tourist Arrivals
From 1st January 2021 to 2nd June 2021, a total of 457,747 tourists arrived in the Maldives.
The top source market for the tourist arrival was Russia with 107,102 arrivals, followed by India with 89,442 tourist arrivals. Germany stood third with 25,344 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include Ukraine, Kazakhstan, USA, United Kingdom, Romania, France and Czech Republic.

Recovering Markets
Tourist arrivals to the Maldives, though slowed down during the month of May 2021 with the addi�onal restric�ve measures implemented to curb the COVID-19 situa�on in the country, data as of 2nd June shows that market rebounding con�nues with strong posi�ve growth rates in 2021 compared with the same period of 2019 and 2020.
In 2021 as of June 2nd, while the Central/Eastern Europe and South Asia regions have made full recovery and performed above pre-COVID levels, Africa, Europe, and Americas are also showing signs of recovery.
Major markets to the Maldives such as Russia and India, which are among the top 10 markets over the years, are seen as star performers, making a strong come back and recording growth rates of triple and double digits respec�vely in 2021, compared with the period in review for 2019. With the increased connec�vity, some markets from the Central/Eastern Europe emerge and make it to the top ten list, while some markets from South Asia, Africa, Americas and the Middle East also made full recovery and performed above pre-COVID levels.

The 6th issue of Maldives Tourism Bulle�n was released on 1st June 2021. The Maldives Tourism Bulle�n is the official e-magazine of Ministry of Tourism bringing tourism updates, industry highlights and featuring high-flying local professionals working in the Industry.

Ministry of Tourism extends bid submission date for the 16 new resort projects have un�l 24th June 2021, 10:00Hrs. This extension is to accomodate for the travel restric�ons investors are facing.
Ministry of Tourism Extends Deadline to Submit Bids
Ministry of Tourism together with the Maldives Marke�ng and Public Rela�ons Corpora�on meet with tourism Industry stakeholders to update, brief and discuss on Maldives tourism. The mee�ng was a�ended by representa�ves from the Maldives Associa�on of Tourism Industry (MATI), Guesthouse Associa�on of Maldives, Na�onal Boa�ng Associa�on of Maldives (NBAM), Maldives Associa�on of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Associa�on of Travel Agents (ATA), Maldives Associa�on of Yacht Agents (MAYA) and Tourism Employees Associa�on of Maldives (TEAM)
Ministry of Tourism Meets with Tourism Industry Associa�ons
Visit Maldives launches a social media campaign to make Maldives a top of the mind des�na�on in the Japanese market and to increase engagement with tourists. Held from June 2021 un�l January 2022, the campaign will increase brand awareness in Japan and reassure Japanese travelers that Maldives will remain as one of the safest des�na�ons to travel to when the Japanese borders reopen for leisure travel.
