th February 2013 to welcome the new President, Dato’ Sr.
Hj. Abd Hamid bin Abu Bakar. 7 Exco members (Sr. Ishak Ismail, Sr. Dainah Mahmud, Mr. See Kok Loong, Sr. Matthias Loui Hoong Fei, Sr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ting Kien Hwa, Dr. Hishamuddin Mohd Ali and En. Sulaiman Akhmady Mohd Saheh) attended the meeting at BOVAEA’s office. Matters highlighted include representation of MIPPM in the Board, Criteria of illegal property managers to be registered during the window period and issues relating to STMB.

7.11 Updates on the Strata Management Act 2013
Strata Management Bill 2012 has been approved by Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara with amendment by the Minister to delete the provision that recognizes the role of registered property manager as an independent managing agent despite strong objections from both sides of MPs and Senators. MIPPM together with RISM and PEPS strongly object the last minutes amendment based on the following reasons:- 1. The proposed amendment contravenes the existing law of Act 242.
2. It will remove the safeguard and protection of the public interest.
A few series of dialogues has been arranged including meeting with the Minister of Housing, briefing of the BNBBC, meeting the Pakatan Rakyat MPs, Senators, student councils and mainstream media. We have also had our meeting with the YAB Prime Minister submitting our protest against the deletion of role of the registered property manager. A total of 4,320 signed petitions have been gathered collectively from the members and were submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
The council wishes to record our utmost appreciation to YB Dato’ Abdul Rahim for his fight to defend our profession in Dewan Negara during the debate of the Bill. Also to put on record is that the standard formula for the computation of the allocated share units of parcels proposed by RISM/PEPS has been accepted and included in the First Schedule of Strata management Act 2013 (Act 757). Currently, together with PEPS and RISM, we are working closely with KPKT on Rules & Regulations that will be enforced together in line with the Act 757.
