Malaria threatens approximately half of the world’s population. Globally, 198
million cases of malaria and 584,000 deaths occur annually, with 3.3 billion
people at risk of being infected with malaria.
Malaria is caused by the parasite Plasmodium, which is transmitted to people
through the bites of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. There are four main
human malaria species, P. falciparum (P.f.), P. vivax (P.v.), P. malariae (P.m.) and P. ovale (P.o.). The P. f. and P. v. malaria pose the greatest public health challenge.
OnSite Malaria Rapid Tests enable detection and differentiation of infection with
various plasmodium species in a cost and time effective format.
