June 2016
Making Strides
by David Jones, V.P. WADE Sales
Well it is 5 months into 2016 and Wade is having a better year than last. Our Sales are up 23% from this time last year. Our new reps have started moving product in their respective markets and we believe that will continue through out the year. The decision to team up with the Tyler sales force is paying off for us much quicker than anticipated.
Some of the projects our products have been used on this year include Boeing Building, St. Louis, MO; World Trade Center Building 3 New York City; Sagamore Hotel ( Kevin Plank Under Armour ) Baltimore, MD; & Trinity Mother Francis Medical Center Tyler, TX.
We are also working on expanding our offering, some of the new products include 12” HDPE Trench Drain, Stainless Steel trench. These products should be available by the end of 2016. With the changing of 7 Reps last year they have all come to the table with new ideas for new products. We will be introducing a few new products each year.
The new office building has been a hit for us. We have had many reps, distributors and contractors visit in the last 9 months and all have had wonderful things to say about it. It gives them a feeling that Wade is here to stay and will continue to make strides to improve our position in the drain business on a national level.
The team at Wade has been working extremely hard for the past few years and is starting to see it all pay off. We have an excellent team assembled and are looking forward to being a profitable contributor to the McWane Plumbing Group.

On Friday June 10th, an excited and enthusiastic group of Tyler Pipe Team Members volunteered to participate in the 23rd annual United Way of Smith County Day of Caring. Once a year the United Way of Smith County contacts facilities or organizations that are designated as non-profit or not-for-profit and ask whether they could utilize an extra pair of hands or in some cases a hundred pair of hands. The Day of Caring positively impacts our community in two ways. The first is that it provides these charitable organizations an opportunity to receive extra help and the second benefit is that it allows folks like our Tyler Pipe Team Members to see how their donation dollars are spent. As you know, Tyler Pipe is a strong supporter of organizations like the East Texas Food Bank (ETFB) so this gives our Team Members an opportunity to see how our charitable donations are being spent to improve our community.
So at 7:30 that Friday morning our group met up at the First Christian Church and were dispatched to the ETFB to bag one (1) ton of rice into small 16oz bags for use in the Meals on Wheels program. In total, 95 volunteers from various businesses were dispersed to ETFB and by mid morning, had bag enough rice to fulfill 11,720 meals. If you have never had a chance to participate, I can tell you that it is a wonderful experience. The knowledge that you are giving your time to improve the lives of others is an experience to behold. Not to mention that this activity qualifies as one of the Tyler Pipe activities which could send you and a guest to a Texas Rangers Baseball game. Last year our group had front row seats to watch the Rangers in the pennant race. If you are unfamiliar on the rules or how to participate, see one of your helpful HR representatives and let us tell you how you can benefit your community and win a pair of tickets to see the Texas Rangers.

Once again June has been designated as “Safety Awareness” month. At Tyler Pipe, it’s a time to highlight our successes
and our shortcomings as an organization. I had the opportunity to sit in with Greg Simmons, General Manager of Tyler Pipe
and listen to his goals and objectives during his most recent Information and Exchange meetings. Greg began the meeting by
talking about our successes, that our facility had gone over 300 days without a lost time injury. Then he spoke about the
opportunities that we missed when two Team Members, performing their usual functions out here at Tyler Pipe, ended up
breaking a finger. Greg emphasized that there are safety protocol for all of the jobs and regardless of whether it is the first time
you have performed a function or if you have performed the function a thousand times, that safety is priority number one.
Greg pointed to the Safety Philosophy of Tyler Pipe sign that adorns the walls in every area where people congregate in our
plant. He read the first philosophy which states that each and every Team Member must take ownership of their own safety
actions. Greg stated that no matter how much money we spend as an organization, how many committees we support to take
strides in the name of safety or how many corrective actions we could write for unsafe
actions, it all boils down to each and every Team Member making a conscientious decision
to perform their jobs with safety on the forefront of their mind.
To help with this task, Tyler Pipe wanted a way to visually show their commitment to
Safety so the idea was proposed to hold a Safety Slogan contest. Team Members were
encouraged to put on their thinking caps and come up with a safety slogan that would be
printed on t-shirts and distributed to all Team Members to commemorate our commitment
to safety. The ballots are in and in total we received 39 entries. The winner of the
contest is Don Teer, who not only will have the notoriety of having his safety slogan
printed but also is the lucky winner of a $100 gift card. His slogan, “Safety is our
Cast Iron Rule!” was unanimously selected by a panel of seven impartial judges.
Congratulations Don on a job well done.

Tyler Pipe presents Bowling at Green Acres On Saturday, May 21st, approximately 80 Tyler Pipe Team Members and guests enjoyed a couple of hours of
friendly competition at Green Acres Bowling Lanes. Prizes were awarded to the top three bowlers with high-
est honors going to former Tyler Pipe Team Member, Gerald Berry who bowled a 177!! Second place was
won by Lucious Wilson with a score of 172 and Heath Huffstetter took third place with a score of
146. Cupcakes, cookies, chips and soft drinks were provided. Everyone had a great time!
On Friday, April the 29th, a line of severe storms moved through East Texas spawning a suspected tornado in Lindale that left a path of debris in its wake. The shopping center housing Dollar Tree and Hibbett Sports on Main Street and multiple neighborhoods on the northeast side of town were devastated. Crews and volunteers worked in the dark, using chainsaws to clear downed trees. A hand full of Tyler Pipe Team Members had serious damage to their house or those of loved ones. Fortunately, as of late Friday, only minor injuries had been reported; however, the city and it’s residents had been hit hard.
With the devastation in Lindale and the flooding in Palestine and our memories still fresh from the tornado that hit Van last year, Tyler Pipe committed to make a donation of $10,000 to assist in the recovery of Lindale. One organization that is often overlooked but just as vital to the reconstruction of a devastated area is the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army per-forms services as varied as offering food service to spiritual ministry, offering shelter to financial assistance. During the last year the Salvation Army has assisted Texas residents by providing 90,000 meals, 13,500 cases of water and assisted over 5,000 Texas Residents secure shelter in times of need. On May 5th our own Faye Pettigrew presented Laurie Bates, Accountant for the East Texas branch of the Salvation Army, a check in the amount of $10,000 to assist Lindale and other communities in our area with their recovery efforts.

“Did You Know” ~ Diabetes and your feet
Don’t let diabetes knock you off your feet
For people with diabetes, the “Achilles heel” of their illness often is their feet.
Diabetes causes poor blood circulation in those parts of your body far from your heart
like your feet, says UT Health Northeast podiatry expert Dr. David Andreone.
High blood sugar damages the outer coating of the nerves in your feet, and the ex-
posed nerves respond by tingling, burning, or numbness. These sensations in your feet
can often be the first signs of diabetes. Eventually, the nerves quit responding to
stimuli, and your feet become totally numb. “If you have these symptoms, it doesn’t
necessarily mean that you have diabetes, but you need to see your physician and be
tested,” he says.
Other common foot-related problems include trouble balancing, weakness in your
feet and legs, hammer toes, callouses, and nail fungus. Serious complications can occur
when people with diabetes develop thick callouses that crack, resulting in ulcers.
“People can’t feel the pain, so they keep walking. Ulcers can lead to infection, and
infection can lead to loss of a limb or part of a limb,” Dr. Andreone says.
If you have diabetes, check your feet several times a day for any signs of irritation,
scratches, or cuts. If you can’t because of poor eyesight or other physical problems, have
someone do it for you. “I tell my patients, find the small problems before they become
big problems,” Dr. Andreone adds. Having the right kind of shoes is also key. Your
shoes need to fit your feet; you don’t want to develop blisters. Buy shoes at a store
where they measure your feet. Don’t just buy shoes off the shelf.
While exercise is good for people with diabetes, Dr. Andreone recommends doing
non-direct-impact exercise, such as swimming, water aerobics, or possibly biking.
“Educate yourself about diabetes and its effects. Know your own body, and test your
blood sugar daily,” he says.
