The world’s most important trade fair for the timber indus-try, furniture production and the woodworking trades is the perfect showcase for suppliers of equipment and tech-nology across the entire sector. LIGNA Talents Under the supervision and instruction of professionals, school students can take part in this competition, which involves producing short films and an online trade fair newspaper, as well as designing CNC programs which can be tested on machines at the trade fair. Materia Exhibition Materia B.V., the organizers of this special display, will exhibit approx. 200 materials and innovative finishing materials. Their materials library, which focuses on “bio-based materials”, provides a good opportunity for visitors to gain hands-on experience, as well as an insight into the world of new materials for various trends in surface treatment. – Hall 17

lightweight.network In line with the theme of resource efficiency this special display takes up the important issue of lightweight con-struction in furniture production and interior design. Experts from the production industry, the supply industry and mechanical engineering, as well as other engineers and scientists will outline the benefits of lightweight materials and present exemplary exhibits. – Hall 17

Service prize for cabinet-makers and joiners The name of the company that wins the prize for the best service in the joinery and cabinet-making trade will be announced on 10 May 2013. – Hall 11

Wonders in Wood and Young at Art For several years the LIGNA special exhibition “Wonders in Wood” has encouraged talented young artists and emerging artisans by exhibiting their best work. In 2013, for the first time, the keynote theme will be wood turn-ing, while the Young at Art competition for next-genera-tion talent – held in conjunction with Wonders in Wood – will invite entries on the theme “Storage”. The prize will be presented on 6 May 2013. – Hall 15

KWF LIGNA Entrepreneurial Expertise Center In 2011 the presentation “Data flow from forest har-vesting to sawmill and woodworking” proved extremely popular. In co-operation with the Lower Saxony Forestry Training Centre (NFBz) and the Working Group of Forestry Subcontractors (AfL), the Kuratorium für Waldarbeit und Forsttechnik e.V. (KWF) intends to repeat this success in 2013. An extended program will focus on trends. This partnership will also launch a presentation on training (“No quality without qualifications”) and the ForstInVoice project aimed at speeding up the invoicing process by using the data from the harvesting stage. – Pavilion 33

NRW “Making more out of wood” The partners in the North Rhine Westphalia forestry and timber cluster will be showcasing products and services related to forestry and applications of wood, the mate-rial of the future. – Pavilion 35

Heating with Wood A presentation of the various technical stages of fuel production and utilization, including machines and equip-ment for the processing of logs and wood chips, as well as the preparation and drying of wood-based fuels using screening and drying plant. The product spectrum ranges from wood-fuelled stoves to biomass boilers and auto-mated systems for wood pellets or chips, as well as con-tainers for pellets and chips. This extensive array is aug-mented by training courses in the use of motor saws, displays of equipment for professional wood harvesters, as well as a feature on a system of wood fuel standards. – Open-air site, southern end, Hermesplatz
