Hello! I’m Katie, the owner, filmmaker and editor of Goose Creek Productions. I am an Ottawa Valley based wedding videographer who serves clients in the Ottawa & Kingston area. I am a self taught visual artist who first started out as a photographer. I still practice photography, but my love of videography has grown to be stronger and more successful for my business.

I am extremely passionate about what I do because I know how important your wedding day is to you. Your wedding day is a celebration of the milestone you and your partner have achieved. It’s an opportunity celebrate the commitment you are making and to bring your families together. I believe whole heartedly that what we create together will have a lasting impact on your life,

and on future generations. The wedding day will go by so fast and will seem like a blur. It will be difficult for you to remember all the moments that you want to cherish.

Yes, it’s true that photography is essential for your wedding day but video adds a completely different element to the way you will remember it. A photograph may instil a feeling in you, but videography however is the actual moments happening before your eyes. Just imagine how amazing it will be to be able to show your children and grandchildren what your wedding day looked like. They will be able to hear the emotion in your voice when you said your vows and the wedding speeches from all the most important people. Videography is an investment into your family’s history.

Together, let’s film your little moments, and your big ones too.

This is your marriage. This is your moment. This is your story.

I hope that this information guide will help answer any questions you have. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

EquipmentThis is definitely one of the most costly parts of running a video company. Some of the equipment includes: 3 cameras ($9000), lenses ($10,000), computer ($1500), external hard drives and digital storage space ($500), High MB per second memory cards ($600-$800), microphones ($600), audio recording equipment ($800), stabilizers, tripods, monopods, gimbals, etc. ($1500). I have to maintain this equipment and replace it when needed.

Software & Website FeesIn order to edit videos, I subscribe to a few different software programs that result in a monthly fee. I also pay to host my website and have my website designed and maintained by web developers ($750)

Wedding costs can seem to pile up quickly. Videography may or may not be at the top ofyour priorities in your budget. Here I will provide some insight on the price, to help my

clients understand the costs associated with producing a wedding video.

Music LicensingWhen I produce a highlight clip, I pay to license the music I use in it so that the artist receives compensation for using his/her music. ($100-$150 per video)

InsuranceIt’s important to have insurance to protect myself and my clients. This costs over $1000 per year.

Material Costs and Office SuppliesPaper, ink, DVDs, USB drives, envelopes, postage, DVD cases, thank you cards etc.

My AssistantPaying her for each wedding that she helps me with($200-$300 per video).

And of course, my time. Each wedding video takes about 50-60 hours to complete.

1. How would you describe your videography style?

My videography style is almost completely candid and documentary - everything I capture is actually happening in real time, I don’t often pose or stage anything in my videos. I also have a passion for nature and small details for many of my films have nature aspects throughout them.

2. How do you coordinate with a wedding photographer?

I am also a wedding photographer myself, so I am well aware of the responsibilities and duties that the photographer has. I’ve been in their shoes before with having a videographer present while photographing. I often will touch base with them beforehand to let them know that I typically will always film from behind them and from the sides and that they are free to move around. For the most part, I let the photographer take the lead in directing you.

3. How many weddings have you done and what is your approach to filming a wedding?

I have photographed and filmed over 50 weddings since 2013. My approach for videography is very unobtrusive - most of my couples often forget I’m even there. It makes me happy when I hear my couples say - “I don’t even remember that happening or remember that you were filming”.

4. How many cameras and microphones will you be using?

I film with two cameras and always work with an assistant. We each have microphones on our cameras and then for the ceremony I place a microphone on the groom’s jacket, and I also plug a device into the microphone you speak into (often a DJ’s sound

board) to collect audio right from the source. I always aim to have more than one source of audio in case anything goes wrong with one. I also use deadcats which are fuzzy covers to reduce the sound of wind. 5. How long does it typically take to get a finished product?

I usually deliver the highlight clip within 40 days and the final product within 75 days.

6. How long is the extended version?

The length of the extended really depends on the length of the ceremony and the length of your speeches. It could be anywhere from an 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours. But it is a clean edit of all the footage captured that day, so no matter the length of the film, you won’t feel like anything is missing.

7. Can I pick the music?

You can have some say in the music picked for your highlight video but it must be a song I can license through a song licensing website. If you would like to pick your own music, I can show you where you can pick your music from. However, if I feel like the song isn’t suitable or isn’t going to work with my style, I will ask you to pick another one.

8. What happens if you get sick and can’t come to my wedding?

It’s very unlikely that there would be a reason to prevent me from filming your wedding. I take my contracts very seriously so it would have to be a life-altering event. In the event that I need to cancel our contract, I will try my best to find a replacement although it is not my legal obligation to provide a replacement.

1. Hire a DJ or provide professional microphones & speakers for your both your wedding ceremony & your reception. Sometimes videographers need to depend on microphones and speakers in order to get the best quality audio that we can from your wedding day. If you have a microphone and speaker for your ceremony and reception, this allows me to collect audio right from the speaker which is the best quality audio source that I could get. This is crucial for your vows and the speeches from your reception. I also will attach a small microphone to the groom’s jacket as another option, but its always nice to have more than one source to rely on.

2. Make sure your ceremony space has room for videographers & photographers to move around on the sides and in the aisle. The more room that we have on the sides of your ceremony, the more discrete we can be in capturing those special moments. Our goal is to not block anyone’s view of your ceremony, so it’s much easier when we have the space to be on the sides.

3. Think about background noise for your ceremony. Where will your ceremony be held? What kind of back ground noise will be present? For example are you close to a road, or an airport? Are you getting married right on the water where there will be lots of wind? A few things to consider when thinking about what your audio will sound like. I do have methods of reducing the sound of wind.

4. Let me know about any special moments that you would like to have on camera. Apart from things such as the ceremony & standard reception details, it’s nice to know ahead of time if you’re doing something unique that you would like to have on camera. Sometimes I may need to leave to another area to set some equipment, so it’s great to know ahead of time if there’s something special you don’t want me to miss. Other examples are - doing some type of twist

on traditional wedding dances, running down the aisle after your first kiss instead of walking, or any other details that are unique and special to your wedding.

5. Send me a timeline that includes all the major events that you would like on camera, the time they will be happening at and the address or location.

6. Have fun! This is your big day - just enjoy it!
