    Making A Closed Bed

    1. Wash your hand and assemble equipment: 1 pillow case Pillow Spread sheet Blanket Top sheet Cloth draw sheet or half sheet Plastic or rubber draw sheet Bottom sheet

    2. Elevate the head of the bed to acomfortable working height in a horizontal

    position. Lock bed wheels so the bed will

    not roll. Place a chair at the side of the bed.

    3. Arrange the linen on the chair in order inwhich it is to be used

    4. Place the bottom sheet on the bed andunfold it, seam side down and wide hem at

    the top. The small hem should be brought

    to the foot o the mattress. The center fold

    should be at the center of the bed. If a

    fitted bottom sheet is used, fit it smoothly

    around one corner

    5. Tuck sheet smoothly over the top of themattress. Make mitered corner.

    6. Tuck in the sheet on one side, keeping thesheet straight. Work from the head to the

    foot of the bed. If using a fitted sheet adjust

    it over the head and bottom ends of the

    mattress.

    7. If used, place rubber draw sheet and clothdraw sheet with upper edge about 14

    inches from the head of the mattress and

    tuck under one side. Be sure that the cloth

    draw sheet covers the rubber draw sheet. T

    should cover the area above the patients

    shoulders to below the hips

    8. Unfold and place the top sheet on the bed,seam up, top hem even with the upper

    edge of the mattress and the center fold in

    the center of the bed

    9. Spread the blanket over the top sheet andfoot of the mattress. Keep the blanket

    centered

    10.Tuck the top sheet and blanket under themattress at the foot of bed as far as the

    center only

    11.Place the spread sheet with its top hemeven with the head of the mattress. Unfold

    the spread sheet to the foot of the bed

    12.Tuck the spread sheet under the mattressat the foot of the bed and miter the corner.

    13.Go to the other side of the bed. Fanfold thetop covers to the center of the bed so you

    can work with the lower sheet and pads

    14.Tuck the bottom sheet under the head ofthe mattress and miter the corner. Working

    from top to bottom, smooth out all wrinkles

    and tighten these sheets as much as

    possible to provide comfort.

    15.Grasp the rubber draw sheet and clothdraw sheet in the center. Tuck these sheets

    under the mattress

    16.Tuck in the tops sheet and the blanket atthe foot of the bed and miter the corner

    17.Fold the top sheet back over the blanketmaking an 8-inch cuff

    18.Tuck in the spread sheet at the foot of thebed and miter the corner. Bring the top of

    the spread sheet to the head of the

    mattress

    19.Insert the pillow in the pillow case
