CONNECTIONSMAKE YOUR

IT’S TIME FOR BIGGER GOALS.

In the city of bridges, symbols of connection and union are everywhere. Travel and crossing. In dreams, bridges symbolize the crossing from one state to another one—an ascension. Bridges symbolize change, or a desire for change, and they challenge those who cross.

THE PURSUIT OF BIGGER GOALS REQUIRES CONNECTIONS TO PEOPLE, PLACES AND EXPERIENCES WHO HELP YOU SEE THE WORLD FROM A GREATER VANTAGE POINT.

WHO WILLYOU BECOME?

“I’ve made a lot of connections at Duquesne through my professors and friends. All of them are lifelong friendships and relationships. I can definitely fall back on them; they’re a really great support system.”

COMMON LEARNING EXPERIENCE

PITTSBURGH IS HOME TO MORE THAN 400 BRIDGES… MORE THAN VENICE, ITALY!

Duquesne has almost as many academic programs as Pittsburgh has bridges. Well,

maybe not quite. But our 80 undergraduate programs all rest on a learning foundation

inspired by the iconic spans of our city.

Bridges Common Learning Experience was designed with career-readiness in mind. We used

data from employers and hiring managers to identify and embed skills they prioritize.

Bridges courses prepare you to adapt and evolve in a dynamic professional landscape. They

connect the specialized work you do in your major to relevant insights from other fields and

opportunities for experiential learning, giving you knowledge you can leverage for success. Bridges

will inform, equip, inspire and engage you.

THE CURIOSITY AND TENACITY that drive our faculty’s research and creativity make their classrooms exciting places to be, and they’re equally enthusiastic about your future. They feel entrusted with your goals, and it is their joy to help you pursue them.

You’ll think beyond what’s right in front of you—discovering new possibilities in your major and seeing how your chosen career can connect to so many other fields in meaningful ways. It’s the perspective you need to make an even bigger impact. After all, success isn’t just about the grades you get or the career you’re preparing for. It’s about the person you become—one who is prepared for anything.

A CITY THAT HAS IT ALL.

Choose your own adventure in

ANY TIME you take a walk or jog or move around the city, you’re not just getting your mind and body strong. You travel the same paths as the innovators, visionaries and determined spirits who built our university and who continue to re-imagine Pittsburgh and create a better world. Here, you benefit from where we’ve been while helping us reach what’s next.

We’re a city of 90 diverse neighborhoods where everyone can be themselves and experience other cultures. We’re a city where strangers smile at you on the sidewalk and use a “language” called Pittsburghese to order Primanti’s sandwiches and cheer on the home teams (beyond DU, that includes Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, Pittsburgh’s three major sports teams!).

“I’m from Honduras originally. I feel very accepted, and I love it here. When I first moved here I biked a lot, and that’s how I got to know the city. I learned about the Point and the South Side trails. You get to enjoy nice weather and see beautiful things. “

FOOD, FUN, ARTS AND CULTURE—all right next to campus.

ORDER GIANT PANCAKES for Sunday brunch, pick up fresh cannoli from the Italian market and buy party supplies for your roommate’s birthday celebration—all within a few blocks.

Past meets the present, and historical buildings house startups set to change the world and employ our graduates. You can take a single staircase to go from our park-like campus to some of the best restaurants and retail in the ’burgh. Three rivers and hundreds of miles of trails encourage you to take a study break and get some fresh air.

“There’s a lot to do in the city. There are restaurants to try and activities like Pens games, Pirates games and concerts. I love going out to eat in Market Square with my friends. We’ll grab food and walk to the Point where there’s a lot of nature. It’s nice to sit along the river and hear the fountain.”

MARKET SQUARECATCH A BITE, OR THREE.Pedestrian-friendly Market Square is the perfect spot to try new restaurants or revisit your favorites. Depending on the season, you can visit the Market Square Farmers Market or the Christmas Village. And don’t forget your ice skates! In winter months, you can skate nearby while taking in some of the city’s most iconic architecture.

CULTURAL DISTRICTLET’S PLAY.Whether you prefer music, theater or dance (or maybe all of the above!), you’ll find ample opportunities to immerse yourself in the arts. The 14-square-block Cultural District encompasses more than 90 retail shops, 50 dining establishments, seven world-class theaters, eight public parks and art installations, and a dozen art galleries.

SOUTH SIDEAN ECLECTIC COLLECTION.With 15 blocks of Victorian architecture, it’s no wonder the South Side was named a National Historic District. Boutiques, restaurants, galleries, theater and live music venues abound. This lively neighborhood treasure is just a single staircase from campus!

THE POINTCHILLAX.Watch the boats float by, take a jog or set up a picnic with friends by the water. Point State Park is where Pittsburgh’s three rivers meet, and it serves as home to a giant fountain, the annual Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Fort Pitt Museum.

DOWNTOWN WORK HARD. PLAY HARD.You may be working hard at your internship, but it sure is easy to get there. Travel a few blocks from campus and you have access to Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and startups—all ready to mentor talented DU students. Don’t forget to have some fun and treat yourself after work. Shopping, delicious desserts and yes, Primanti’s sandwiches, are just outside your office door.

PPG PAINTS ARENAHOCKEY. CONCERTS. GOOD TIMES.Trust us, you’ll want to be there when the puck and the microphone drop. The arena is the place to be for professional ice hockey and performers of all genres—and it’s a stone’s throw from campus. So scoop up those student-rush hockey tickets (yes, they’re discounted!), rally your friends for the next big concert and simply cross the street to build memories that last a lifetime.

NORTH SIDEACTION-PACKED EVENTS.It’s all homeruns and touchdowns on the North Side with football and baseball games in state-of-the-art stadiums on the river’s edge. When the home teams aren’t playing, their venues are home to concerts featuring world-famous musical acts. Bravo!

WE’VE GOT TONS OF SCHOOL PRIDE—it’s evident in the stands at our Division I athletics games and on the hands of the thousands of alumni who wear our instantly recognizable red ring. Our cheers thunder throughout the beautiful new UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse and span the distance of Rooney Field. You’ll find us in red and blue face paint, waving pompoms and high-fiving our friends. We’re always ready to support our athlete-classmates and the school that we love.

We know you’ll love it here, too. School pride isn’t just about athletics—it’s in everything we do. Look out your residence hall window any time and you’ll see Duquesne gear dotting Academic Walk (we call it A-walk).

But more important than our red and blue sweatshirts and hats, our students live every day in pursuit of their goals and of being part of something bigger than themselves. Through experiential learning and service projects, they honor Duquesne’s purpose, working side-by-side with neighbors in authentic collaborations. We mobilize our school spirit to create a future that everyone can share.

“I am from Jamestown, North Dakota, and I found Duquesne because I was looking for schools with good economics programs. I had a really memorable first impression of Duquesne. I met with the mentor for my program, and he left a lasting impression on me. I really love being here, and I think Pittsburgh is a really cool city.”

JESSICA SCHMITZ, ’23“Duquesne is the only school I applied to because it just felt like home to me. It’s such a family atmosphere. I found a home at the business school, and I’m so happy for the connections there.”
