Procedures

• There are two portions of this lab….. One with known solutions and another with mystery urine where you will be making a diagnosis on your patient.

Fill in your table from the following “known” tests.

• We will be performing the tests on:

Glucose

Proteins

Vitamin C

Glucose “Known” test

• Set up 2 test tubes….. One containing control urine (yellow food coloring and water) and glucose urine.

• Add 2 mL of benedict’s solution to both and cook in a hot water bath for 5 minutes.

• Note the results.

Protein “Known” Test

• Set up 2 test tubes….. One containing control urine (yellow food coloring and water) and protein urine.

• Cook in a hot water bath for 5 minutes.

• After cooking, add one full pipette with vinegar.

• Note the results.

Vitamin C “Known” test

• Set up 2 test tubes….. One containing control urine (yellow food coloring and water) and vitamin C urine.

• Add 15 drops of indophenol solution to both.

• Note the results.
