Creative Non-Fiction

Hero

• a man admired for his achievements

and noble qualities

• one who shows great courage

• DOES NOT HAVE TO BE DEAD.

• Does he/she need special powers?

• Does he/she need to be dead?

• Or is he just an average person

walking down the street?

Modern Day Hero

• A modern day hero is someone who faces

adversity and danger from a position of

weakness and displays self sacrifice for

the greater good

• By definition, a modern hero is someone

who has done something heroic in recent

times.

Modern Day Hero

• A "good" person where integrity, honor,

honesty, intelligence, wisdom, action,

morality and love work in harmony to

balance the person on their path of higher

learning.

Event or Problem

• Something shakes up the situation, either

from external pressures or from something

rising up from deep within, so the hero

must face the beginnings of change.

Mentor

• The hero comes across a seasoned

traveler of the worlds who gives him or her

training, equipment, or advice that will help

on the journey. Or the hero reaches within

to a source of courage and wisdom.

Special World

• The hero commits to leaving the Ordinary

World and entering a new region or

condition with unfamiliar rules and values.

Allies and Enemies

• The hero is tested and sorts out

allegiances in the Special World.

Tests or Supreme Ordeal

• The hero enters a central space in the

Special World and confronts death or

faces his or her greatest fear. Out of the

moment of death comes a new life.

The Road Back or Elixir

• The hero returns home or continues the

journey, bearing some element of the

treasure that has the power to transform

the world as the hero has been

transformed.

Major Composition

All 2nd Year AHS students will, for their 2nd GP Major

Composition, submit an entry for Bookmark, Inc.’s

Modern Heroes for the Filipino Youth contest.

Students should be able to present their chosen

characters as a role model for young people to

emulate.

Students should clearly show why their chosen

character can be considered a hero.

Major Composition

Exceptional entries will be published.

Winning entries shall receive cash prizes:

1. 1st Prize P10,000

2. 2nd Prize P5,000

3. 3rd Prize P2,500
