Step 1: Start MaintSmart from the Windows“Start” button>>Programs>>MaintSmart>>MaintSmart” menu.

Step 2: Click the “Continue”button on the registrationscreen to ignore this registrationfor now.

Option 1 (use provided demo database)Step 3: To use one of MaintSmart’s demodatabases select from the “Tips” screen oneof the two DEMO radio (option) buttons onthe right of the “Tips” screen. Next press the“Use Demo Database” button.

If you selected this option you shouldnow skip to page 6.

This is a simple way to test MaintSmart withdata already configured. Choose frommanufacturing or building database.

You only need to link to the database onetime. Thereafter MaintSmart knows where tolook for it’s data.

Next: when the “find file” dialog screenappears simply navigate to wherever youplaced the MaintSmart database. Selectit with a single left mouse-click thenpress the “Open” button.

If you selected this option you shouldnow skip to page 6.

Option 2 (point MaintSmart to a user provided database)Step 3: To link MaintSmart to a user-provided database clickthe “Find Database” button then navigate to the database youwant to link to. Radio button selection doesn’t matter in thiscase as you are locating a user-provide database.

NOTE: When you choose a database MaintSmart assumes youwill continue to use this database. In order to prevent usersfrom accidentally selecting one of the DEMO databases thedatabase selection radio buttons are hidden thereafter. To seehow to un-hide these buttons refer to page 8.

Option 3 (enter new data into empty database)Step 3: To enter new data for the first time into a completelyempty MaintSmart database make the selections asdepicted on the left. Next press the “Use Empty Database”button. This requires special configuration and is usuallyonly used when you have just purchased MaintSmart andare beginning to enter your own data into the program.NOTE: When you choose a database MaintSmart assumesyou will continue to use this database. In order to preventusers from accidentally selecting one of the DEMOdatabases the database selection radio buttons are hiddenthereafter. To see how to un-hide these buttons refer topage 8.

NOTE: Example of database selectionradio buttons hidden after selecting adatabase other than one of the DEMOdatabases. There is a way to causeMaintSmart to display these again. Seepage 8 for instructions.

Step 4: Now select the “Plant” or “Building” Code. TheDEMO database use the code: 327. Otherwise use theappropriate code for the database you are using. In thisexample it happens to be “327” as the DEMO database wasselected.

NOTE: the top-level equipment hierarchy may be whateveryou decide to call it. In this example we use “Plant” or“Building” but it could be “School”, “Fleet” or anything thatworks for you.

NOTE: The last two pages of thisguide are optional and not requiredfor first time login.

Step 5: Lastly enter the password and user name. For theDEMO programs this is “admin” (user-name w/o quotes) and“1234” (password w/o quotes).

NOW YOU CAN USE AND BENEFIT FROM MAINTSMART...

Step C: Next press the “SetDatabase Location” button thennavigate to the correct database.

Step B: Point MaintSmart To A Database:When “Program Configuration” opens selectfirst tab labeled “Configuration”.

NOTE: you may un-hide the radio buttons onthe “Tips” screen by un-checking thecheckbox below the “Database Path” box.

How to Reset The MaintSmart Registry Entries (optional)

Step A: PressWindows “Start”button then select“Run”

Step B: Type theword: regedit intothe “Run” boxthen press OKbutton.

Step C: When“Registry Editor”opens navigate tothe “MaintSmart”folder then deleteit.

Important Note: When working in the “RegistryEditor” extreme care must be taken not to alter ordelete folders or keys unless you are absolutelycertain this is what you want to do. Deleting the wrongfolder or key may cause your computer to stopfunctioning. If you need help contact MaintSmart.

Why would I want to reset the MaintSmart registrysettings?After you delete the MaintSmart registry itemMaintSmart will once again show the radio buttons fordatabase selection on the “Tips” screen. This willmake it simple to select a different database. You mayalso “point” MaintSmart to a different database fromthe “Program Configuration” (page 7).

Once MaintSmart is open select the “Help>>About” menu items. The MaintSmart version and theDatabase version must match. Notice in the above example they are both “2.3.3”.

If they do not match then you’ll need to locate the correct database and link the MaintSmart program to thisdatabase. This is described in the preceding pages or feel free to call or email MaintSmart 1-209-367-0450, 1-888-398-0450, [email protected] .
