Second Collection For La Sagrada Familia Parish The growth of our relationship with La Sagrada Familia Parish depends to a great extent upon our awareness of the life and changing needs of the people of the parish and upon our response to those bonds of relationship. Your support of La Sagrada Familia Parish is essential to the support of our archdiocesan priests who serve there and to the continuity of the ministries that empower our sisters and brothers and help to transform their lives. Thank you for your generosity!

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, PATRONESS OF THE AMERICAS - Feast Day, Monday, December 12th In 1531 a "Lady from Heaven" appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of Mexico City. She identified herself as the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God, the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and the earth. She made a request for a church to be built on the site, and submitted her wish to the local Bishop. When the Bishop hesitated, and asked for a sign, the Mother of God obeyed without delay or question to the Church's local Bishop, and sent her native messenger, Juan Diego, to the top of the hill in mid-December to gather an assortment of roses for the Bishop. After complying to the Bishop's request for a sign, She also left for us an image of herself imprinted miraculously on the Juan Diego's tilma, a poor quality cactus-cloth, which should have deteriorated in 20 years but shows no sign of decay 480 years later. It apparently even reflects in Her eyes what was in front of her in 1531. Her message of love and compassion, and her universal promise of help and protection to all mankind, as well as the story of the apparitions, are described in the "Nican Mopohua", a 16th century document written in the native Nahuatl language. Altogether 25 popes have officially honored Our Lady of Guadalupe. His Holiness John Paul II visited her Sanctuary four times: on his first apostolic trip outside Rome as Pope in 1979, and again in 1990, 1999 and 2002. Pope John Paul II entrusted the cause of life to her loving protection, and placed under her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially those who are in danger of not being born.

SECOND COLLECTION FOR LA SAGRADA FAMILIA PARISH

DECEMBER 10/11, 2011

Partners in Mission: A Word from the Pastor “I have been serving the people of La Sagrada Familia parish for eight years, since being appointed by Archbishop Dolan in 2003. During these years we have had many different groups from Southeastern Wisconsin visiting our parish community. No matter what part of the archdiocese they were from, whether they were just visiting or coming to give medical service, young or old, Anglo or Hispanic each visitor would say, “We have received much more than what we have given.” Their comments came from the heart. I think the warmth with which they were welcomed by our parishioners and the experience of meeting people who are willing to share their hopes and anxieties openly is one reason why they feel this way. At a deeper level, there is the joy of understanding that beyond cultural differences our community of faith and common humanity bind us together. At an even deeper level many people who visit La Sagrada Familia return with a different appreciation of their own lives in the U.S.A., of what is really important and what is secondary both in life and faith. It may surprise you to know that our parishioners in La Sagrada Familia feel exactly the same way about welcoming visitors. They also sense that offering their houses and their warmth and friendship is very little compared with what they receive from those who come to visit. This sister parish relationship gives all of us the opportunity to open ourselves to the gifts of each other and we become better people and better Christians.”

Father Marti Colom, pastor of La Sagrada Familia Since 1981, 14 priests have ministered in the parish celebrating the sacraments, taking care of pastoral needs and accompanying the people on their journey of faith. Please make any checks payable to Blessed Teresa, and write La Sagrada in the memo section. Muchas gracias.

LAST CALL FOR AD LIMINA TRIP TO ROME Archbishop Listecki is extending a “last call” invitation to join him and his brother bishops from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, as well as the diocesan bishops of Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana, on their Ad Limina trip to Rome, February 10-17, 2012. Every diocesan bishop in the world is required by canon law to travel to Rome every five years to make a report about the state of his diocese to the Holy Father and the offices of the Roman Curia, and to pray at the tombs of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. This trip, called the ad Limina visit, brings bishops literally to the thresholds of the Apostles. During the trip you will pray at the tombs of St. Peter and St. Paul; celebrate Mass in the great Basilicas and Churches of Rome; and be part of an audience with our Holy Father, Benedict XVI. Remember to return your Giving Tree gifts, either to the tree in church or the parish office.

Have you noticed our listing of bulletin sponsors is shrinking? These sponsors cover the cost of printing, collating and delivery of our church bulletin every week. If you own a business, please consider this form of advertising (and stewardship). Contact Alex Nicholas at LPI, 1-800-950-9952 ext. 2538. Besides an ad in the bulletin, your business is advertised on LPI’s seekandfind.com website, where church information and bulletins are available online. What a wonderful way to advertise and support our church bulletin.
