It all started in December 2013, when the initiative about street art was promoted by the Urban Consorti-um for Rehabili-tation of Puerto de la Cruz with the departments of Planning and Culture of the city. The main aim of this initia-tive is to create

a kind of art which is using the building’s walls as artistic can-vases to trans-form the streets into art muse-ums. The pro-ject was warmly embraced by the locals and the tourists. Resi-dents and visitors followed with interest the mak-ing of the murals.

'THE STRENGTH IS IN THE ROOTS AND THE PATH IS LOVE.'

El Niño de las pinturas (Raúl Ruiz) is a popular muralist who has taken part in

Puerto Street Art 2014. His works are re-

lated to phrases or poems. In his murals the

human figure is in the first place. In most

of his works, El Niño tries to capture and

highlight the facial expressions the protag-

onists’ faces like fear, surprise or sadness.

This mural is art work with identity Canaria

a female face that watches the figure of

an old man attired.

‘When I do street art I am motivated to paint something that matches the atmos-phere and the archi-tecture. That’s the kind of idea that inspires me. It’s hard to do something that pleases everybody, but when you do - it’s worth it.’

KOB (Victor Pacheco) is characterised by his abstract spontaneity and simplification in colour. Not only is he a muralist and artist, but he is also a tattooist. Originally from Puerto de la Cruz, Kob has travelled around the world and has drawn a number of murals in different cities, some of which are Barcelona and Madrid. He ‘s been painting for more than 15 years and definitely thinks that street art is his vocation. This painting represents vegeta-tion and animals contrasting warm and cool colors.

Roa is a muralist from Belgium whose art has often been pho-tographed, but un-fortunately, very lit-tle is known about the artist himself. At a very young age Roa recalls dreaming about be-ing an archaeologist. He was inspired by the American life, music, fashion etc. Like most muralists, he began by spraying bridges and walls. In his early years he expressed an active, electric mix of styles.

However, slowly but surely Roa became addicted to the na-ture of urban art. Roa’s true obsession for animals is his main inspiration. In his murals he paints local animals accord-ing to his location. Roa’s work has been turning heads across the streets by bring-ing animals back in the consciousness in the areas they had once inhabited. He really has a true pas-sion for painting.

3ttman (Louis Lambert) is a french muralist who lives in Ma-drid. His style stands out by his combined cartoon graphics, with forms inspired by his travels to distant lands. He aims to capture the scarcity of time in a more symbolical way. 3ttman has the ability to transform the mundane into art and the artist into a crea-tor. He usually works in the street because it allows him to express himself freely. His interactions with space and his colourful paintings led him to work with Tate Modern (Street walking tour 2008), the crea-tion of a 30-metre-mosaic wall with the Spanish embassy in Hanoi etc.
