Ana María: Juank have you ever heard about

Mario Benedetti?

Juan Carlos: Not enough, I think!

AM: Ok! He was an outstanding poet, novelist,

playwright and Uruguayan critic, member of the Generation of 45; He is considered the most

important figure in Uruguayan literature of the second half of the twentieth century and…

JC: Wait, wait. Generation of 45...what is it about?

AM: The Generation of 45 refers to a generation of

Uruguayan authors, mainly writers of various genres (though also included musicians and

painters) that emerged artistically from 1945 to 1950. Its members were part of a social,

political and cultural phenomenon which had a decisive influence on contemporary Uruguayan

intellectual identity.

JC: So, well! Certainly, I know his extensive work spanned the genres of narrative, dramatic and

poetic, likewise was the author of essays. His literary output included over 80 books, some of

which have been translated into over 20 languages. Sales were leaders of Latin American

narrative from the 50’s to the 70’s.

AM: I would like to quote one of his thoughts:

“Do not give up, please do not give in, although the cold burn, although fear bite, although the sun goes down, and shut the wind, there is still fire in your soul, there's life in your dreams. Because life is yours and yours is also the desire, because every day is a new beginning, because this is the time and the best time, because you are not alone, because I love you!“

In this section you will know about interesting people who have made history and have become true milestones for humanity! Welcome.

Juank, He was deeply romantic. Wasn't he? JC: Yes, He was. He always wrote with a special feeling for life, love, the truth and everything… But do you know his full name? AM: His full name is Mario Orlando Hamlet Hardy Brenno Benedetti Farrugia, It is too long. Can you imagine when his mother got angry? (LOL)… On the other hand, there is a beautiful poem dedicated to the youth. I would like you to read it with pleasure. But before, tell me how would you describe the Benedetti's way of writing? JC: I just can say: “Benedetti, there are no words to describe the depth of your verses and, if any, only you had been able to find them.”

Let’s enjoy the poem…
