A. Objetivo y contenido
Esta es la segunda parte de un curso de macroeconoma a nivel posgrado con duracin de un ao
cuyo objetivo principal es que el estudiante conozca y entienda una versin avanzada, sistemtica,
y rigurosa de algunas de las principales teoras que explican el comportamiento agregado de una
economa de mercado.
Nuestro curso se divide en cinco secciones. Tras una breve introduccin al campo de la
macroeconoma en la primera seccin, en la segunda vamos a repasar algunas herramientas
computacionales y estadsticas que nos van a permitir pasar de los modelos a los datos. Los
mtodos de optimizacin dinmica, tambin conocidos como programacin dinmica, se van a
estudiar en la seccin tres. Para ilustrar estos conceptos, estudiaremos aplicaciones en consumo,
inversin, bsqueda, y valuacin de activos. El objetivo de la cuarta seccin es desarrollar un
marco para analizar algunos de los problemas bsicos de poltica en macroeconoma internacional
tanto en economas desarrolladas como en desarrollo. La ltima seccin del curso ser una
introduccin a los ciclos de negocios. Primero vamos a revisar algunos hechos estilizados. Despus
vamos a cubrir los dos principales paradigmas: el modelo de Ciclos de Negocios Reales y el
Neokeynesiano. Al final, vamos a juntarlos para reflexionar sobre polticas de estabilizacin y
algunos de sus retos.
Es importante advertir que a pesar de que nuestra lista de lecturas sobre los ciclos de
negocios es ms bien completa, nuestro tratamiento de este tema en clase va a ser
extremadamente breve, as que aquellos estudiantes interesados en profundizar deberan
considerar tomar el curso optativo Macroeconoma III del Profesor Stephen McKnight el prximo
semestre de otoo.
B. Organizacin y evaluacin
El curso consistir de 2 clases semanales de 1 hora y media de duracin cada una.
Hora y lugar de reunin: lunes/mircoles 8-9:30, saln TBA. Por favor traten de estar en sus
lugares antes de las 8:05. La clase empezar exactamente a las 8:07.

Evaluacin. A lo largo del curso habr dos exmenes, y 5 o 6 tareas. La ponderacin para la
calificacin final ser definida en forma individual de acuerdo a las siguientes 3 opciones:

Las ponderaciones debern definirse al entregar la segunda tarea.
Tareas. Las tareas se asignarn una semana antes de su fecha de entrega. Para calcular la
calificacin de sus tareas, usaremos el promedio de las mejores cuatro. Por tanto, slo ser
necesario que entreguen cuatro (aunque les aconsejamos que resuelvan y entreguen todas). Las
tareas se entregarn directamente al inicio de la clase correspondiente, y por ningn motivo se
aceptarn despus de la fecha designada. Si alguien planea no asistir, deber de tomar las
precauciones necesarias para entregar su tarea con anticipacin. Se permite, y de hecho se
recomienda, el trabajo en grupo para resolver los ejercicios. Sin embargo, cada estudiante es
responsable de redactar sus propios resultados. Aquellos estudiantes que entreguen tareas
idnticas sern penalizados.
Primer examen. El primer examen ser el TBA.
Segundo examen. La fecha del examen final ser determinada por TBA.
No habr exmenes adelantados ni de reposicin.
Revisin de los exmenes. Si creen que ha habido errores en la calificacin de la parte de un
examen por favor avsennos. Procederemos a revisar el examen completo (incluyendo las partes
con las que no tienen ninguna objecin). En nuestra experiencia, en ocasiones la revisin baja la
calificacin de un examen.

Participacin en clases. Alentamos la participacin en clases contestando preguntas que hagamos
y formulando sus preguntas. Tenemos los siguientes objetivos en mente:
1. Queremos que la participacin en clase sea una experiencia universal.
2. Queremos que la participacin en clases refleje la perspectiva de un estudiante ordinario,
y no solo la de un pequeo nmero de estudiantes que conocen el material al derecho y al
revs.
3. Queremos que todos los estudiantes piensen activamente en lo que est pasando en
clase.
4. Queremos que los estudiantes vengan a clases en lugar de depender exclusivamente de las
notas que se distribuyan.
Por favor no teman preguntar/responder preguntas en clases.
Asistencia. La mayor parte del aprendizaje en este curso ocurre durante las clases.
Comprendemos que de vez en cuando ocurren emergencias, pero esperamos que las faltas sean
raras. Empezaremos a las 8:07 en punto. Llegar tarde interrumpe la clase. La asistencia al
laboratorio no es obligatoria, pero es muy recomendada.
Lo que pueden esperar de nosotros: estamos comprometidos a hacer este curso intelectualmente
retador, estructurado lgicamente, basado en ideas (no en memorizacin), personalmente
relevante, y divertido. Si no, por favor avsenos, y lo mejoraremos.
Retroalimentacin. Se nos ocurren dos formas para retroalimentacin, y les sugerimos que usen
ambas. Con frecuencia estaremos disponibles para discusiones breves al final de la clase. Adems,
tendremos horas de oficina. Por favor avsenos que necesita mejorar. Esperamos su
