I hope everybody got out for a fish over Easter as it was the best weather we have had for a long
time over the holiday period, usually it’s pouring with rain and has a howling wind with it.
Our club trip to Borumba Dam is on the 15th 16th and 17th April for those of you who can make it.
Scott has booked 7 or 8 sites at the camping area closest to the dam, and it should be able to hold
about 20 members. The fishing should be a lot better than usual, because as far as we know so far
that the dam is closed to swimming and skiing, so there will be a lot less boats on the water which
can only be a good thing.
Myself and Carl and two other boats went for a fishing trip off Double Island Point overnight about 30
Nm out, but Carl brought his curse with him, so we only caught about a dozen fish, usually it is a good
spot for red emperor and coral trout. A 7.5 Kg red was caught within 20 m of where we anchored up
for the night as they drifted past, so that means Carl's curse radiates out less than 20m from the boat.
I'm looking for a new deckie.
Cheers Vince.
What a month for fishing. The weather gods have finally given us some decent weather. There has
been some great reports on our club Facebook page, well done to those who got out and caught
some good fish and thanks for sharing with us on Facebook. We got some lovely weather for our
rescheduled March Mackerel/Tuna comp on 18 - 20 March. Some of the retired
fisho's fished on Friday with the remainder of the working class people fishing at first
light on the Saturday. Ross Roberts had a great day on the Friday landing some
Spanish mackerel and tuna before letting Karl and Joan know what lure he was
using. Unfortunately for Karl it was too late. Ross Roberts had the largest Spanish at
6.775kg, Jim Brennan the largest tuna at 2.452kg and Charlie Opelt showed us that you don't have to
travel far by landing a good feed of spotty mackerel just outside the rock wall. Charlie won the spotted
mackerel section with a 1.985kg. Many thanks to Joe Hardman for cooking up a great feed.
Just to let everyone know that on Easter Saturday Jim Brennan raised the bar for heaviest Spanish mackerel with a
superb 25kg fish caught on 8kg line. Well done Jim
Don't forget that Borumba dam comp is on 15 - 17 April. We will be
camping at the camp grounds below the dam wall. More info to come
at the club meeting. Guest speaker for the meeting is a mate of mine
Dave Brace. Dave is a committee member from the Ewan Maddock fish
stocking group and he is going to give a talk on catching barra from
kayaks and chasing wild bass on the sunshine coast. Dave has
presented a similar talk last year at the Boat show in Brisbane.
Hope to see you all at the meeting on Tuesday 12 April at the yacht club.
Tight lines

pre-test today. While bottom bashing, I put out the usual pillie floater for a
spottie and it was taken by a large Spaniard. Played it out for fifteen minutes
and luckily it behaved while I gaffed it by myself. When I got it in the tinnie my
leader broke and I noticed one hook swivel had also pulled apart. Too big for
my scales so off to Wayne and Barb's for better scales. 25 kgs and 157cm. My
lucky day!
Great Presentation Great Presentation Great Presentation Great Presentation –––– A big thankyou to Rob Smith for very
interesting and informative talk at our last meeting. Subject being catching
mackerel, tuna, etc. and the different rigs to
use and how to use them. It was great
actually, to see and handle the rigs and get
some exact terminal sizes and material used.

Round the Circle is a monthly collection of snippets of interest /
information concerning the club. Most is collected at the “Sewing Circle”
held at Wayne and Barb’s Fishing World on Friday mornings – hence the
name. Contribute items to Tony Fleming. Share a coffee or tea some food
and true fishing hints, spots and stories.
Joan’s Mystery
Carl was in Fishing World chatting to Wayne when Joan rushed in with a red face and pained look on her
face saying “It’s 11 inches! it’s 11 inches!” to which the reply was “No wonder you’ve always got a smile on
your face!” So the mystery is for Carl to solve. Is 11 inches the length of Joan’s fish? The length of Carl’s
fish? The distance Joan parked from the glass door? Or what exactly was she referring to????? Watch for the next instalment, when this perplexing question will be revealed. I am sure most of the members will
know what is being referred to!!
