2013 celebrates the 20th anniversary o the estab-lishment o diplomatic relations o the Republico Macedonia with the Republic o Belarus, NewZealand, the Republic o Indonesia, Bosnia andHerzegovina, Malaysia, the Islamic Republic o

Pakistan, the Peoples Republic o China, the Re-public o Angola, the Federal Republic o Germany, the United Kingdom o Great Britain and NorthernIreland, the French Republic, the Republic o Italy, the Kingdom o the Netherlands, the Kingdom oDenmark, the Kingdom o Sweden, the Kingdomo Norway, the Republic o Bulgaria, the Republico Albania, the Republic o Finland, the Republico Poland and Iceland.

By its symbolism, the 20th Anniversary is espe-cially important because it also marks the beginning o ulfilling the vision or clear estab-lishment and successul promotion o the Republic o Macedonia on the international stage.

Tese past years have been characterized by r iendship, cooperation, joint activities, mu-tual support, numerous visits, discussions and important decisions that contributed signifi-cantly to the prosperity o our nations, the wellbeing o our ellow citizens and to reachingthe best solutions to important regional and global issues.

Here, I would quote Lincoln: In the end, it's not the years in your li e that count. It'sthe lie in your years. Te past 20 years represent a quality and successul eature o ourrelations. At a time o new challenges to diplomacy, there arises a need or init iative, swifaction, identiying and practicing new orms o communication, advanced and wise leader-ship, which will contribute to urther progress.

As all esteemed countries celebrating this Anniversary, the Republic o Macedonia, too,can take pride in its perseverance in pursuing its oreign policy, which is based on the prin-ciples o respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty, promoting good-neighbourliness

and riendship, improving regional cooperation, engaging in active multi lateralism andully respecting human rights and the rules o international law.

oday, we can proudly conclude that during these past 20 years the Republic o Macedo-nia has demonstrated how a state ought to contribute to maintaining regional stability andcooperation. Our proactive approach to and consistency concerning regional and Europeaninitiatives contributes to neutralizing the negative developments to which our region wasexposed.

Te success o our cooperation in the next 20 years does not depend on tackling dailyissues, but on the possibility to see beyond the horizon; to anticipate uture challenges andto act together. Given our cooperation so ar, I know we can do it.

ogether, we produce good and increasingly better ideas! Economy, environment and in-rastructure represent current challenges and hence take priority. Advanced countries have

advanced mechanisms or reconciling differences. We have the same interest.I believe that the trend o improvement o the cooperation wil l continue in the uture,

producing results that wil l make us proud. It is in these moments that we have to rememberthe most important things peace and prosperity. Tings that we naturally want to have, but when we do have them, we sometimes take them or granted. I am convinced that byachieving our strategic goals, the Republic o Macedonia, together with all the partners thatcelebrate this jubilee with us, wi ll contribute towards world peace and wellbeing. May wis-dom and mutual respect be with us in the next 20 years.

Owing to the consistent supportrom the Republic o Macedonia to thedeclarations o the European Union on

imposing restrictive measures againstBelarus, the cooperation between thetwo countries in the past 20 years hasbeen rather modest and ar below theobjective potentials and needs o thetwo countries, even though there is abasis or its promotion and advance-ment in a large number o areas ocommon interest. For that purpose, theRepublic o Macedonia is committedto completing the normative and legal

ramework governing the relations andcooperation between the two countriesand to pursuing higher orms o eco-

tion in the orthcoming years. A particu-larly important development that had astrong and positive impact on the bilat-eral relations is, natural ly, the decisionthat the Polish government adopted inthe summer o 2005 to use the constitu-tional name o the Republic o Macedoniain the bilateral communication, by whichPoland became the first EU member state

to take this step. In this regard, the co-operation in the EU integration processo the Republic o Macedonia establishedbetween the two countries, which in re-cent years has been developed under theso-called Skopje Conerence, is o greatimportance. As a token o appreciation

to the Polish people and the leaders othe Republic o Poland or ostering andcultivating the relations o riendship andthe cooperation between the two states,or their strong support and assistanceto Macedonias endeavours in attainingits strategic goals and or their principledposition on the constitutional name othe Republic o Macedonia, the President

    KINGDOM OF SWEDEN

Twenty years ollowing the establishment o diplomaticrelations between the Republic o Macedonia andthe Kingdom o Sweden, it can be concluded that the

Macedonian-Swedish relations and cooperation are continu-ally and avourably developed and that they are marked byriendship and mutual understanding.

In the political context, the two countries share the samevalues and commitments to reaching high democratic stan-dards in their respective societies and a better living stan-dard or their citizens. As a proven supporter o the effortso the Balkan countries or their integration into the EU, inthe last two decades, Sweden has strongly supported the EUintegration o the Republic o Macedonia. Tis was especial lyevident in 2009 when the Swedish Presidency o the Councilo the EU played an important role in the adoption o a posi-tive Report o the European Commission on the Progresso the Republic o Macedonia, as well in the adoption o arecommendation or opening accession negotiations and visaliberalization. In addition, Sweden has provided significantsupport in strengthening the administrative capacities o

Macedonian institutions or EU related reorms, especiallyunder the programs o the Swedish International Develop-ment Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

In the last ew years, the Republic o Macedonia has beenmaking specific efforts to expand the economic cooperation

and to attract a greater volume o investments rom Sweden. Asa result o the presentation o the possibilities and acilities orinvestments in the Republic o Macedonia, during Prime Minis-

ter Gruevskis visit to Stockholm last year, and in the light o theinterest shown by certain Macedonian emigrants and the activi-ties o Honorary Consuls, it is expected that in the orthcomingperiod the Macedonian-Swedish economic cooperation willintensiy and the interest o Swedish companies in investment inthe Republic o Macedonia will grow.
