Stacie Chappell draws upon life experience as her main artistic influence; a time, mood or memory. The visceral play of color and form in her paintings evoke emotive sensations of elation, excitement, anxiety and curiosity. She has had her work described as standing somewhere “between a scientific blueprint and a childlike doodle.”
Stacie uses a variety of acrylics, inks, fabric paints, drawing doodles and blotting of paint with paper towels, to integrate form, color and pattern. “The various types of paint media and surface treatments I use react differently, ultimately pushing the element of surprise as form and space develops." This is visually suggestive in her work as spatial movement, gesture and transformation are pictorially conveyed.
alan fulle is a Maximalist and materials oriented abstract artist. he is excited by the alchemical, physical, and emotive nature of paint itself as a subject, and its interplay with other materials used in his work - resin, glass, wood, metals and concrete. alan’s work documents and expresses emotional states through forms within structures or zones of abstraction. Since narrative exists within the material context, it is the exploration of physical interplay of materials that allows him to express emotion, spirituality, impermanence, and other human conditions. he uses oil paints and washes, oil and water based polyurethanes, resins, acrylics and enamels to suggest change and decay. These organic processes married with architectural forms and subtle pallets of color create a moving, restive balance of forms.
andrew glass employs a reductive style of painting that works in concert with repeated patterns and geometric forms. By deconstructing a form down to its lowest denominator, he explores decay, a sense of ragged history, emotion and finality. It is the interplay of materials such as acrylic gels, transparent pigments, alkyd resins and inks that informs this process.
he is fascinated by the stories his paintings can tell. andrew wants to explore a tactile sensibility. in other words, to touch what is on the surface, however still searching for what is lying underneath. With painting, he wants to tell a story, uncover and understand what has come before, or is still hidden. This is not only an aesthetic process, but also one that allows him to invent history."
