Now, this can be held by “co-presidents, or co-vice presidents OR the responsibilities for President and Vice President (which can be found in the handbook) can be evenly shared with several ladies of your unit. Your unit would not have a “president” in name, but the responsibilities would be shared amongst the women. With this being said, you must have a “contact” person within your unit. It has to be someone that the District President can reach by phone, and preferably via email. I hope this information will be of help to you and your ladies. SOUTH WEST

DISTRICT SOJOURNER UMW Publication Florida Conference

Dear South West District Ladies:

Recently in January, many of you attended our District’s training event for local officers and coordinators. I hope you were able to take the information you re-ceived back to your ladies and share with those not able to attend what all you had learned.

One of my favorite bible verses, as I am sure is one of yours, is 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. A portion of that passage says, “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.” In training, we learning that it takes many ladies to make up a unit, district or conference. Like the body, many parts are needed to master a certain task. As United Methodist Women, we are like the parts of the body, many as we are, but all working together to make up a unit or district to get the job done!

During our training question and answer time, the question was raised, “what if no one wants to be President or Vice-President – what do we do?” At a recent Conference meeting I attended, I asked this question. I was told that in order to have a unit, you must have a Treasurer and someone acting in the President’s position. Now, this can be held by “co-presidents, or co-vice presidents OR the responsibilities for President and Vice President (which can be found in the handbook) can be evenly shared with several ladies of your unit. I hope this information will be of help to you and your ladies. As always, my con-tact information, as well as the entire District Team’s contact information can be found on the front of this newsletter. We list them on the front page for easy access and quick referral. Remember, we are only a phone call away to help in any way we can. See you in Sarasota on the 25th!

Women and Food of the Bible

On Thursday, February 2, 2017, Spring Lake (Sebring) United Methodist Women held a fund raiser for the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church food pantry. Forty two women attended and raised $585 for the food pantry, plus a van-load of non-perishable food items.

They served: wine (sparkling cider); bread & honey; lentils; olives; pork; chicken; fish; deviled eggs; cheese; cottage cheese; venison (summer sausage); cucumbers; cantaloupe; honey dew; pistachios; almonds; figs; raisin cake; and grapes.

Women from the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, and other women from the area who like to participate in the Spring Lake UMW events, came together to enjoy food and good fellowship with other Christian women. Many women dressed as a woman from the bible. It was fun day and a good fund raiser.
