Psalm 39:5 – 65 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. 6 Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.

Psalm 39:5 – 6 (The Message)You’ve kept me on pretty short rations; my life is string too short to be saved. Oh! we’re all puffs of air. Oh! we’re all shadows in a campfire. Oh! we’re just spit in the wind. We make our pile, and then we leave it.

2. Fear

Acts 4:29 - 3129 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Ronald DunnTake a look at the Church at Pentecost. They prayed for 10 days and preached for 10 minutes and 3,000 people were saved. Today we pray for 10 minutes, preach for 10 days and are ecstatic if anyone is saved.

Luke 12:11 - 1211 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

Exodus 4:1010 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”

Acts 7:2222 Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

3. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit all sent the Church into the world on God’s mission.

Demystifying Mission

Matthew 5:13 - 1613 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
