VIHREÄ TALOUS II LYNET – TUTKIMUSPÄIVÄT
OULU 3. - 4.10.2011
Vihreä elintarviketalousSirpa Kurppa
• Ennen uskottiin vihreään vallankumoukseen – nyt haetaan vihreää taloutta. Ruoka
• 1960 –1980 –luvun puoliväli-viljojen sadot kaksinkertaistuivat ja maailmanlaajuisesti kolminkertaistuivat.
• Teknologiakehitys: • Koneistumista, • uusia lajikkeita, • lannoitteita, • torjunta-aineita ja • keinokastelua,
• ’luomuviljelystä’ ulkoisia panostuksia vaativaksi tehokkuuteen ja taloudellisuuteen

• Koneistuminen näyttää jatkavan vielä omaa suuntaansa entistä massiivisempia koneyksiköitä kehitellen.
• Jalosteiden kehittämisessä yllättävän suuria hidasteita
Mikä nyt on tilanne?

• Globaalilla tasolla lannoitteista fosfori on niukkeneva ja typen sidonta ilmakehästä reaktiivisiksi yhdisteiksi erittäin energiaintensiivistä ja arvioitu aiheuttaneen jo palautumattoman typen planetaarisen epätasapainon - Ravinnekierrot olisi saatava haltuun
• Ilmastomuutos - maaperän hiilivaranto – päästölähde vai nielu/eloperäiset maat
• Monimuotoisuuden menetys -geenivarantokysymykset
Globaali sietokyky

Planetary boundaries •for climate change, •for ocean acidification, •for stratospheric ozone depletion, •for interference with the global phosphorus and nitrogen circles, •for rate of biodiversity loss. •for global freshwater Use, •for land-system change
It has estimated that humanity has already transgressed three planetary boundaries: 1) for climate change, 2) rate of biodiversity loss 3) changes of the global nitrogen
cycle

• Torjunta-aineilla on väistämätön osuutensa biodiversiteetin vähenemässä.

Kemikalisoituminen

Implementating IPM, for all EU farmers to apply from 2014, so ”professional users of pesticides switch to practices and products with the lowest risk to human health and the environment among those available for the same pest problem.” (Article 14.1).
The importance is to give priority to preventative elements
Giving priority to non-chemical alternatives ”Member states shall take all necessary measures to promote low pesticide-input pest management, giving wherever possible priority to non-chemical methods.”(Article 14)
Ensure that pesticide use is minimised or prohibited in specific areas (Article 12)
Establishing appropriately-sized buffer zones to protect non-target aquatic organisms and safeguard zones for surface and groundwater used for the abstraction of drinking water, where pesticides must not be used or stored (Article 11)
• Globaalilla tasolla keinokastelu on muuttumassa mahdottomaksi, jos vettä ei enää ole, ei ainakaan riittävän puhdasta.
• Virtuaalivesimääriä:– Maito 1000 l/l– Juusto 9000 l/kg– Peruna 250 l/kg– Kananmuna 3375 l/kg– Leipä 1333 l/kg– Sianliha 4800 l/kg– Soijapapu 1800 l/kg– Pihviliha 15 500 l/kg
• Veden käyttömahdollisuudesta kriittinen biomassatuotannon rajoittaja

• Raaka-ainetuotantoon ja • toisaalla kulutukseen. • Päätöksenteko koskee erittäin
suurta ja moniarvoista toimijajoukkoa
• Tuotantoketjun keskellä päätöksenteko näyttää edelleen olevan entistä keskittyneempää ja samalla taloudellisesti vaikutusvaltaisempaa

Vegetaristiruuissa metaani häviää melkein kokonaan.
Valmisruoissa teollisuuden osuus kasvaa ja kotitalouksien pienenee.
Kasvisaterioissa eri tuotantovaiheiden hiilijalanjälkien erottasaantuvat.

Club of Rome program 2052UNDERLYING CAUSES AND REMEDIES:
A KEY FOCUS
14.11.2011
I Values lie at the heart of our common future. The Club plans to encourage a normative discourse on values. Can universal values translate into real actions to protect and preserve our planet? Do we care about the future? Is inter-generational equity a basis for long-term action?
• The Search for Universal Values• The Drivers of Values and how these change
Perceptions and Outcomes• The role of Education in Values• The Future of Values and the Value of the Future• Ethics and the Marketplace: the Ethics of Business• Consumerism and Values
14.11.2011
II TOWARDS A NEW ECONOMYCurrent economic theory and practice is outdated and does not serve the needs of a future constrained by limits to natural capital, fraught with declining social capital, and increasing unemployment. A change is urgently needed that provides for a human centric economics where real values to society are reflected fully in economic and policy decisions. The work program, inter alia, focuses on both theoretical and applied economics and addresses the following issues and questions:• Natural Resources, Climate Change and Limits• Green Growth and Employment• Real Values and their Role in Economics• Economic Growth, Real Wealth Creation and Equity• “Uneconomic Growth”• Applying Steady State Economics to the Real World• Economics for New Markets• New Consumption and Production Paradigms• Economics, Resiliency and Risk Management
14.11.2011
III. THE FUTURE OF WORKFinding work for current and future job seekers is a major global challenge and yet is central to any hope we have of providing a safe, resilient, equitable and sustainable planet. Issues that require attention include the future nature of work, the opportunities for work, and the scale of work. The work program, inter alia, focuses on:• Economic Growth, Structural Change and Employment• The Future and Nature of Work in a Global Economy• Demography , Migration, Poverty and Work• Education and Skills for Future Work Forces• Rights and Work• Agriculture and Rural Employment
14.11.2011
IV THE FUTURE OF GOVERNANCEMany factors will affect the demand for new forms of governance and for new institutions to deliver the required goods and services: the management of global issues and the rise of global citizenry, the increased role of stakeholders and civil society in decision-making, a rise in the importance of the public good and spill-over effects of many political and economic transactions, a growing distrust of un-regulated markets, information and technological advances that allow for greater levels of devolution, and new forms of communications that produce “lateral, issues-based multi-national” communities of interest. New forms of governance are inevitable as we begin to restructure economic thinking. The work program focuses on:
• New Global Governance Paradigms: Can they be made to work?• Technology and the Rule of Subsidiarity: local solutions to deal with
global problems• Managing and Preserving the Public Interest (Markets and the
Financial Sector)• Cooperative Models for Research and Development• Values, Trust and New Institutions
