In January 1968, North Korea captured theUSS Pueblo, an American spy ship thatthey said had strayed into their waters. The US said that the ship wasnot in North Korean waters. The crew washeld hostage until December 1968. The Americans admitted that it was aspy ship and promised not to spy in that region any more.
