The Lynchburg Region has a strong story to share, Alliance is the Regional leader focused on generating awareness and discussion about the success, diversity and strength of manu- facturing in our Region. The Lynchburg Region is a resource rich with the natural resources, education and workforce elements key to our opportunity. Telling the Regional Story is vital to leveraging our competitive advantage to expand economic opportunity enabling people to manage their assets in ways to generate incomes and options. We were thrilled to host five manufacturing writers representing various industry publications traveling through Central Virginia as they spent twenty-four hours in the Region, meeting corporate CEO’s, touring the region, AREVA and Simplamatic. While visiting our Region they were exposed to a thriving, innovative international business culture that generated awareness and soon articles for their respective publications which are Association for Manufacturing Excellence; Modern Machine Shop, Manufacturing News, and Industry Week. Alliance hosts manufacturing travel writers to showcase our region Women’s Exchange Luncheon Thurs., June 22, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Oakwood Country Club 3409 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg RSVP by June 19 to the Alliance Speaker: Sara Elizabeth Timmins, Producer/ Creative Director at Life Out Loud Films Sara is a savvy business person and producer whose gift for relationship and community building sets her movies apart. She is currently in development on several films including SHOELESS WONDERS, an inspirational sports drama based on a true Lynchburg, VA story. In 2010, Sara Elizabeth was inducted into the Opportunity Hall of Fame for her contribution through film making to econom- ic development in Virginia and was presented the ‘Regional Advocate Award’ by the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber for her impact. Cost is $25 members/$35 nonmembers. GLTC Operaons and Maintenance Facility Grand Opening/Ribbon Cung Wed., June 28, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Greater Lynchburg Transit Company (GLTC) 419 Bradley Drive, Lynchburg RSVP to (434) 455-5080. Join with the Alliance in celebrating the grand opening of the new Greater Lynchburg Transit Company Operation and Maintenance Facility. Thirty-six leaders and managers successfully completed the Leadership Lynchburg’s Flagship Program. The program immerses the aspiring or emerging leader, manager or first time supervisor in a nine-month study and practical application program on community leadership. Participants walk away with increased self-awareness, leadership acumen, life-long connections and an increased commitment to volunteerism and civic engagement. Lynchburg has graduated more than 1,700 leaders associated with 80-plus organizations in the area. Progress on the Alliance’s future Regional headquarters continues with the expectations of completion before end of third quarter. Staff offices are taking shape with new windows and doors to be installed in the weeks ahead with some windows that will be noticeable as you travel down Fifth Street. The bathrooms have been remodeled and have been to painted. New flooring has been selected for the main hallway and offices. The $1.35 Million proj- ect will be the home of the Region’s premier business organization that represents our thriving, innovative and collaborative business community. More updates will be available as the construction continues. Renovaons connue on Alliance’s new headquarters The 2017 Lynchburg Life and Resource Guide was unveiled at our Buy the Burg! Show. The magazine has already been distributed to welcome centers, economic development offices, hotels, train station, airport and more. In May alone, the Alliance distributed over 1500 magazines and will be distribute more in the weeks ahead. The magazine is a marketing resource tool for the Region which welcomes vis- itors, college students, and new residents while showcasing the outstanding quality of life that is recognized and listed by national resources as a top Metro to live and work in the country. The magazine was designed and published by Alliance members The Design Group and Progress Printing Plus. The magazine is available at the Alliance office and is also viewable online at www.lynchburglifeonline.com.
