Simply SummerStaying Gorgeous During The Dog Days of Summer

by Laura Bissessar

To many of us, the summer season is a time for picnics, water parks, camping and generally all things outdoors. But if you live in an area

that is warm all year round, summer may hold a different meaning. Instead, it might be a great time to go see an afternoon movie, indoors. Or it’s a time to go to that ice skating rink that you’ve been meaning to go to. In Vegas, summer is also a time to revise our beauty routine if we plan to venture outside. Because simply put, it’s freaking hot!

Hot is hot, regardless of Las Vegas being the dry heat so many try to find solace in. While summertime may be the only time to take a break from the daily grind and enjoy a little … ok, a lot … of sun and outdoor activities. With the UV index growing faster than Caitlyn Jenner’s Twitter following, so it’s crucial to be vigilant about protecting your skin—and reminding your out-of-town guests to frequently reapply their sunscreen.

Beauty

For responsible tanning, exfoliate your skin beforehand. Doing so will remove the dead skin that doesn’t want to be on you anyway, allowing for even exposure. And after you’ve spent all day smartly reapplying your appropriate SPF, moisturize.

Sun, water, sand, salt, and wind can all be drying, so smart sunning also involves routine aftercare.

Keep hairstyles simple. If you’re thinking it’s a good day to wear next to nothing, then a blanket of clingy hair on your neck probably won’t coordinate with your look. ‘Tis the season to rock a ponytail or bun. Or, if you’re a bit more dexterous, look up some neat braiding how-to videos incorporating some unique braids into your ‘do. And when all else fails, hair accessories can tame or even distract from any hard to manage hair, think a light cotton headscarf or flower clips.

Finally, keep the makeup simple too, and preferably water-resistant. It is no secret that sweat breaks down makeup, making it difficult to maintain when it’s hot out. Using waterproof mascaras and eyeliners is the easiest of makeup fixes, they stay on and require little to no maintenance. Lip stains and lip balms are also quite simple. Stains don’t budge and lip balms will gently wear off versus bleeding into your skin al la Courtney Love in the 90s. The rest of the face can be the trickiest. There is plenty of wonderful weather-resistant makeup out there; but in sticking with the theme of simplicity, the best tip is just to wear less. Keep it light. If you’re worried about coverage, just remember that people will notice sweat-smeared makeup more than they will notice anything you want to cover up.

So whether you reside closer to the equator or not, summer has always been the time for barbeques, pool parties, and vacation days. Simplify your look by maintaining healthy skincare habits, our crazy hot weather could actually be a time you don’t want to end!

Beauty Kitchen Tips for Summer

by Heather Marianna

To check out Beauty Kitchen’s complete product line, please visit www.HeatherMarianna.TV .

Summer in Las Vegas is here and although that means sundresses, pool weather, and a great tan (all things I adore!). It also means melted makeup and sunburned

skin. Here are a few of my easy do-it-yourself Beauty Kitchen tips and recipes to keep your summer anything but cruel.

I absolutely live for coconut oil. Rub a small amount of it on your skin before having some fun in the sun. Coconut oil has a natural SPF of 4 in it plus it’s an amazing antioxidant. It’s full of moisturizers, which work perfectly on extremely dry or sunburnt skin as well (bye bye peeling!) Salt water and chlorine can wreak havoc on our hair, so add a little coconut oil from your mid-shaft to your ends before you jump in the water for extra moisturizing protection. I even add a little jasmine essential oil to mine (you can pick it up at Whole Foods) and add a tad to my wrist and neck for a sweet-smelling perfume.

No matter how many hours you’ve been putting in the gym, a bikini rash will totally kill your smokin’ hot beach bod. Crush up some aspirin with honey and water to get rid of ingrown hairs and redness. Make your summer selfie a stand-out by adding a touch of shimmer to your collarbone and shoulders to accentuate

your femininity and make your skin really pop. I swear by this (check my

Instagram @HeatherMarianna).

Keep your blowouts fab by swiping a bit of deodorant on

the back of your neck. It’ll keep you cool and help prevent you from sweating out your

style.

It sounds so cliché but I can’t stress enough how important drinking water is. The ultimate beauty secret of many models and Hollywood starlets, water not only keeps your skin hydrated but it also keeps you looking younger by reducing wrinkles and plumping up skin. Add some cucumber slices and a stalk of lemongrass to a Pinterest-worthy pitcher and you’ve got refreshing spa water, without the fancy spa price tag.

Try a few of my favorite summer at-home Beauty Kitchen treatments:

Strawberry Lemon Acne Mask Ingredients • 1 teaspoon lemon juice • 1 1/2 teaspoons honey• 1 egg white • 1/2 cup strawberries

Preparation • Mash or blend the all the ingredients together.• Smooth over face and let sit for 10 minutes• Rinse with warm water.

Apple Cider Vinegar Cleansing Toner and Makeup RemoverIngredients• 1 tablespoon raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar• 1 tablespoon lukewarm filtered water

Preparation• Mix the apple cider vinegar and filtered water together. It’s good to start with a 1:1 ratio (50% ACV, 50% water), but you might find you need to dilute the mixture more based on the sensitivity of your skin.• Spread evenly all over your face and let air dry. Use twice a day – first thing in the morning and right before bed.

Detoxifying and Moisturizing Coffee Mask Ingredients• 2 tablespoons freshly ground coffee • 1 tablespoon honey• 2 tablespoons cocoa powder • 2 tablespoons yogurt

Preparation • Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl to create a spreadable mixture. • Allow it to dry on your skin for 10 minutes. • Exfoliate your skin by scrubbing gently during removal.

They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, but perhaps eyebrows are the curtains that frame them.

A part of Hollywood legend involves screen siren Lana Turner. As a contract player in the golden era of movie making, she had to pluck her eyebrows for a role. Unfortunately, they never grew back. So for the duration of her career and life, Ms. Turner had to draw her brows on with a pencil.

Throughout the decades there have been various types of brows which have been trendy and featured in fashion magazines and on the haute couture runways across Europe. In the 40s and 50s, exaggerated brows worn by the legendary Joan Crawford were in style. Nearly a century later, that look has been lampooned by drag queens everywhere. Just watch an episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for great examples.

In the 60s, thin tapered brows were popular, echoing the look of slim models such as Twiggy and Penelope Tree. The natural look of Farrah Fawcett and Brooke Shields defined the 70s and 80s.

In 2015, we’ve come full circle again, with full lush brows being the rage. Model Cara Delevigne is all the rage now, and her strong, defined, black brows are considered perfection. They are perfectly angled and frame her eyes well.

So what if your brows are lacking? How do you find the right brow look for you? Here are some do’s and don’ts:

• Get a professional to take care of your brows. The company Benefit has what are called “Brow Bars” in which their artists will consult with you, and create a look through tweezing, plucking and using great powders and pencils to give you the best brows around!

• Look at magazines and scan the models and celebrities. Do you see someone whose face shape, eye shape and color match yours. Rip out that page and take to your favorite aesthetician.

• Don’t over pluck. Like biting your nails it will turn into a bad habit and come back to haunt you. Over plucking usually leads to the curved, “surprised” look which is usually the most difficult to fix, brow-wise.

• If you are completely without any brows, consider obtaining a prescription of Latisse. More and more women are using it to jumpstart brow growth. If using Latisse is too cost prohibitive, there are also other brow serums on the market with less stronger ingredients then a prescription dosage.

• Make sure your brow color is carefully matched with your hair color. If you are Madonna, you can get away with the more theatrical look of platinum hair and black brows. For the rest of us, a natural taupe or dark brown color is far more flattering and less aging.

• Most of all: be patient. If your brows are not what they want to be, remember it takes a while to undo the damage. But if with the right cosmetics and aesthetic advice, you can get some banging brows in time.

Shorts: A Must have for Summer

by Liz Frye

With the triple digit weather that is now upon us in Las Vegas, it’s time for summer’s number one fashion staple: shorts.

Those six letters invoke fear and dread in some people after months of having their legs covered in long pants during the cooler months. So, with the blue skies and the sun shining, it’s time to let those legs shine.

But what is the best kind of short to wear with your body type? Are you petite, tall, or a little in between? Short shopping is a bit of pain if you don’t know the most flattering style to wear. And shorts do not have to cost a lot; you can find shorts at the finest specialty stores, or the neighborhood big box retailer. Whether they cost $7.99 or $700, get the best pair of shorts for you, as long as they look good and make you feel good. And once you find the ones you love, buy as many as possible.

• Got a nice booty, like Kim K. and J-Lo? Simple styles in dark colors work best. No pleats or pockets in the back. The key is to create a smooth, clean line. Navy, brown, black are good ideas. Pair with cute sheer tops to draw the eye upward – think ethic prints, animal prints, feminine floral tops.

• Got a lean athletic build? Show off that toned body and all that work you’ve done with yoga and Pilates! Do you have broad shoulders and slim hips? Try shorts with big, voluminous prints. Find a pair with pockets to give a little shape. Pair with a slim tank or cute cardigan and strut with some style and flair!

• Curvy all over with an hourglass build? Try some high-waisted ones that highlight your tiny middle. Temper the sex appeal during the day with a cute tank and a lightweight jacket. Nothing wrong with showing off those curves. Just don’t show it all at once.

• In addition to finding the right shorts, don’t forget about your legs, too. Exfoliate them with a great scrub, wax or shave them, and strut your stuff.

Shorts are a staple of summer fashion and remember, don’t worry, there is a style for every body type. Don’t worry about what others think or say. If you like them, and you feel great in them walk proud – and by the way, remember, a cute pair of shoes goes great with shorts.

Who are you and what do you do?Adam “Bixby Knolls” Roose. Aka FROSACE the Bixby Gawd.Las Vegas resident by way of Long Beach, CA. I’m a Hip Hop artist, song writer, producer and all around visual artist.I represent one of the more privileged parts of Long Beach, rather than the stereotypical hood or ghetto variety. I’d like for my music and image to reflect that this brand of Hip Hop is on the more expensive side.

Style Thuggery is an undeniable passion for all things stylish. Define Style Thuggery in your own words.Style to me is:The ability to translate fashion into a representation. The essence of steelo. Your best reflection.Thuggery to me is:Style with balls. You have to have confidence about yourself that can pull off a look, it’s the balls to even attempt it.

How do you describe your style? I’m very fascinated with and influenced by the 1960s and 70s period; the gold jewelry gold & frame work, luxurious fabrics in unique patterns in paisley, warm colors, the hypnotic accents and its flamboyance.

Who is your Style Icon? My style icons are Jimmy Hendrix , Pharell Williams and Kanye West.

What do you like about today’s fashions? Any dislikes? Today’s fashions are a lot more daring. I appreciate the reach and different forms and expressions displayed by people. I’d go as far as to say, that you can almost predict the type of person a teenager will be as an adult from their style and fashion choices.

What is your favorite thing to wear when you do what you do? My favorite look would have to be a slim straight pair of jeans, a button up I’d catch my

grandfather wearing, a pair of Nike Cortez’s, my afro blown-out and some eye wear with gold trim reflecting that 60s era. Possibly a gold jewelry, a watch and rings and definitely a nice belt, I love belts!

How do you describe yourself as an artist? I describe my artistry as a chef of melodic gumbo. I have a knowledge and appreciation of what music is and can do. I have musical skills to emulate and execute any sound I desire, yet enough originality to make it my own. I’m as kicked back as I want to be or as energetic as I need to be.

I am euphoria translated through a human vessel.

Spin YourWay To Dry Swimwear

by Christie Moeller

Feature

LVSTYLECOUTURE.COM

P ool season has officially begun here in Las Vegas.  I can hear the day-club music pumping and the smell of tanning oil is in the air.

Once the swimming is over, whether you are at the beach or a pool, the next step is usually to change out of the wet swimwear and into dry clothing but what do you do with that dripping wet bikini?  You try wringing it out but it’s still dripping everywhere and putting that $200 bikini in a plastic bag just seems wrong.

I’m going to share with you a closely guarded secret stylist tip to solve this problem. Have you ever been to a SPA or a private beach where they had swimwear dryers in the bathrooms?  A salad spinner does EXACTLY the same thing.

On set we shoot 10-to-15 swimsuits pretty quickly and once they are wet even in optimal conditions they can take forever to dry.  I keep a salad spinner in my kit for these occasions.  It helps remove all the excess water and leaves you with a damp bikini that dries out pretty quickly.

Just place your sopping wet swimwear in the spinner, give it a spin and voila.

Just like it does with lettuce, all the excess water has been separated from the fabric. Now your swimsuit is just damp as opposed to a drippy mess and will dry out super-quick.  This works with any type of manual salad spinner.  I use a large one so that I can fit one-piece styles and mens trunks in it as well.

If you want this body, you better work! Yes, Sebastien Large’s physique is certainly ripped beyond this dimension and his look could easily

grace the runway for Versace. However, Sebastian is also a serious emerging actor. Born in the south of France, Sebastian began acting school when he was only 10 years old. At eighteen, he jumps into stand up comedy. Sometime later, after graduating from the Culinary School of Arts, Sebastien made his way to Paris where he landed roles for a few television series. He then set his sights on America. NUTRITION TIPS FOR A BEACH BODY

by Sebastien Large

W orking out isn’t enough to get you the beach body you always dreamed of.

It’s more than that. It requires you to make some sacrifices and one of them is nutrition. A clean and proper diet added to your daily workouts will play a major part in your beach body transformation.

Below are some nutrition examples that you should incorporate in your daily diet.

It is recommended to eat five-to-six small meals throughout the day. Try to do your best to not skip any of them, especially the most important meal of the day, breakfast. Breakfast is the meal that will give you the energy and focus to complete a long day.

Mine consists of oats with blueberries mixed with some ground cinnamon. Sometimes I’ll add a mix of berries.

What happens if I don’t eat carbs or I get bloated from them? Here’s an alternative for a nutritional breakfast. Egg whites omelet mixed with spinach, bell peppers and mushrooms topped off with avocado. This is a good source protein, good fats, fiber and a blend of multi vitamins. Bon Appetit!

These are just examples. There are many ways to get a delicious, nutritional, healthy and energizing breakfast .

If you’re on diet, you should take time to portion each meal. It may not make sense to you, but once you see the six-pack that pops out, you ‘ll say “thank you” to the scale .

My second meal consists of a white lean protein such as turkey or chicken, a source of complex carbohydrates, such as sweet potatoes, lentils, quinoa or brown rice, and greens, such as spinach, kale or broccoli.

This is the meal that’s going to give me the fuel to go to hit a beast mode workout or any intense activity.

Here are good, delicious recipes for those who are carbohydrate intolerant:

Chicken fajitas protein style. Chicken with bell peppers and mushrooms, on a bed of spinach.

Vegan fajitas protein style: Bell peppers, zucchinis, mushrooms and onions on bed of spinach (avocado is optional).

The third meal can be a snack, something that will keep you going but is easy to digest and will keep you full until your next meal. It is recommended that it should be less than 200 calories. Snacks can also help you to lose weight when done properly. Any snacks should include a good source of protein and fiber.

A few good snack examples include: almond butter with an apple, almonds, edamame, berry smoothie (greek yogurt , honey and berries ), a chicken pita (cut in two snacks ), lentils salad with tomatoes and watercress , cottage cheese with pineapple chunks , a veggie tostada ( veggies, black beans ), 12 asparagus spears with a hard-boiled egg.

There are so many ways to find some great healthy snacks to eat.

For the fourth meal, I have chicken, butternut squash and bell peppers cooked with spinach.

My fifth meal consists of salmon, brown rice and spinach.

The sixth meal is the meal before you go to sleep. The meal should be light and can be even be a snack. You just need something to not wake up hungry. If you have a fast metabolism do a full meal versus a snack as whatever you eat your metabolism will be burning it while you sleep.

If you want to get some attention when are on the beach this summer, you now know what to do. Try to be consistent as your diet because “you are what you eat. “ Remember “abs are made in the kitchen.“

HANGING RAISES Hanging Leg Raises

1. Hang from a pull-up bar using either a wide grip or a medium grip. The legs should be straight down with the pelvis rolled slightly backwards. This will be your starting position. 2. Raise your legs until your torso makes a 90 degree angle with the legs. Exhale as you perform this movement and hold the contraction for a second or so.3. Go back slowly to the starting position as you breathe in.4. Repeat for the recommended number of repetitions (12-to-15).

Tips for proper execution: Perform this exercise slowly as it takes some getting used to. Do not try to use weights your first time as it could lead to injury. Try to avoid swinging your torso.

Hanging Knee Raises1. Grab a pull-up bar with a shoulder-width, overhand grip and hang from the bar with your knees slightly bent and feet together. 2. Imagine that you have no legs and tilt your pelvis as high as you can by pulling your hips up and in. Aim for your knees to touch your shoulders.

Both exercises can target the obliques as well. Put pressure on the obliques by rotating your pelvis left and right. Make sure to perform the exercise slowly and perform the same number of repetitions on each side. I recommend 20 repetitions. Do not use weights as this could lead to an injury.

CRUNCHES This exercise can be done anywhere. No gym needed. I do crunches anywhere - at the park, the hotel, even on the movie set in my trailer.

Caution: If you’re suffering from neck or back injuries I would recommend using a gym ball!

Crunch on the floor 1. Lie flat on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip width apart.2. Place your hands slightly either side of your head. Do not lock your fingers or pull your head up.3. Push the small of your back into the floor to engage the abdominals.4. Tilt your chin slightly, leaving a few inches space between chin and chest.5. Begin to roll your shoulders off the floor.6. Your shoulders should leave the floor by approximately four inches and your lower back should always remain on the floor.7. Hold for a moment at the top then slowly move back down.

Crunch on a gym ball1. Sit on the ball and roll your torso down so that you are lying on your back. Your shoulder blades down to your tailbone should be on the curve of the ball while your head, neck and shoulders are above the ball.2. Knees are bent and feet flat on the floor at hip width apart.3. Perform the same abdominal curling movement as instructed above.4. Move slowly and keep the core muscles engaged so that you feel grounded on the gym ball and do not roll off of it.

RUSSIAN TWISTThis can be executed on a bench, on a gym ball or even on the floor.

Russian Twist on the floorThis is how you perform the exercise on the floor.

1. Lie down on the floor placing your feet either under something that will not move or by having a partner hold them. Your legs should be bent at the knees. 2. Elevate your upper body so that it creates an imaginary V-shape with your thighs. Your arms should be fully extended in front of you, perpendicular to your torso and with the hands clasped. This is the starting position.3. Twist your torso to the right side until your arms are parallel with the floor while breathing out.4. Hold the contraction for a second and move back to the starting position while breathing out. Perform the same technique on the opposite side.

Russian Twist on a gym ball1. Start on your back with your shoulder blades centered on the gym ball. Keep a strong bridge while holding a medicine ball directly in front of you.2. While keeping your hips up and your core tight, roll over onto your shoulder and contract your obliques.3. Return to the starting position and repeat the action going the opposite way.

The following are exercises that will target your abs fully. I do these five days a week.

The original, unrivaled Vegas pool party, REHAB at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas has been making (sound)waves in Sin City’s daylife scene for the past 12 years.

The pool party that started it all attracts Las Vegas’ most tantalizing gods and goddesses to a lush paradise environment boasting cabanas, daybeds and comfortable banq-uettes, perfect for those wanting to see and be seen – all set the beat of the hottest DJ’s and pop culture icons.

Earlier this season, REHAB unveiled six brand-new, poolside VIP bungalows, which are equipped with high-definition plasma TVs, a telephone, a safe for valuables, a refrigerator and complimentary bottled water. REHAB has been called “the original and yet still the best party” in Sin City by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and “still sizzling at 10 years” by Las Vegas Weekly. It was featured on Travel Channel’s “21 Sexiest Beach Bars” calling it “the must-see place on a Sunday afternoon;” deemed the “best known, biggest and craziest pool party” by the Los Angeles Times; and said to be “legendarily ‘raucous” by Travel + Leisure. In 2013, it won the “(DAY) Lifetime Achievement Award” in Vegas. For guest list, cabana and VIP reservations, please call 702.693.5555. For more information, visit rehablv.com.
