    Celebrating Black Cats

At Ralphs Cat and Dog Health Food Store

On September 17th we held a Celebrating BlackCats event and adoptathon at Ralphs Cat and Dog

Health Food Store in Lunenburg. Pepsi and Annabellejoined Brian and I for the day. The reason for holdingsuch an event was because we had four black kittensleft out of all the litters the SPCA had taken care ofover the summer. We wanted to encourage people toadopt the kittens before October when people mayadopt for the wrong reasonsuch as having a blackcat to go with their Halloween costume.

So far, Tiny has been adopted. A reporter from theProgress Bulletin came to take a photo and learn about

black cats. Thanks to Ralphs Cat & Dog Health Food Store for providing the place to hold our

adoptathons. The news article can be found at

    http://southshorenow.ca/archives/2011/092711/news/index018.php

*Note Black Cat information is in three files that were printed for a bulletin board display. Iverevised the originals so our own SPCA photos and copyright free images have been used. Nowyou can print and use the display panels any way you wish (e.g. displays, school etc.)

    Advertising our pets

This is the petfinder report for the week of September 19 to 25. It tells how many times each ofour pets have been viewed. It looks like dogs are very popular. (See Ocea). Note that cats have

been added since this list was posted and Tiny has been adopted.

Weve been getting calls from folks who have seen our pets on Kijiji and also on Facebook.Cathy Billings has very kindly put the Lunenburg SPCA pets on her own Facebook webpage and

its getting results. Thank you Cathy!

We have Victoria, our remaining senior cat onhttp://www.nsseniorpets.com/about.htm, awebsite dedicated to senior pets. Victoria is growing her fur back in nicely so well be posting

    new photos on Petfinder soon.

We also advertise on CKBW, in Lighthouse Publications local newspapers and we put up

posters. Our website ishttp://www.purplepuppyproductions.com/spca.Ronnie Scullion has donea wonderful job of keeping our Lunenburg SPCA site up to date. Thank you Ronnie!

    Foster Homes Needed

Were always in need of foster homes to take the abandoned, neglected or abused animals thatcome our way. If you or anyone you know can provide a foster home, please contact the SPCA543-2334. . Information on fostering is found on our website at

    http://www.purplepuppyproductions.com/spca/fostering.htm.

We have a new fosterManuela Meuller. She and her husband are fostering two of our cats thatwere found very thin and neglected. Theyve named them Lavern and Shirley. Both cats lookgreat now and are enjoying the attention, comfort and food of their foster home

    Recording Secretary Needed

Is there someone out there that would like to help the SPCA once a month by recording the

minutes of our board meetings? This would be good experience for someone interested insecretarial work or this would give someone a chance to get to know the people at the SPCA.The Recording Secretarys position involves attending a monthly meeting in Sobeys meetingroom (meeting is about 1 to 1 hours), recording the minutes and emailing them to the board(about 8 people). If interested, please call the SPCA 543-2334.

    Humane Education

We have materials for childrens groups (such as Girl Guides) and school children. All we need

is someone who knows the ropes and has experience with children. This would especially suit aretired or aspiring school teacher.

Humane education also comes in the form of educating the public, such as giving out pamphletson why pets shouldnt be left in cars in the summer or even why black cats shouldnt be shunnedas unlucky. Anyone can do this type of education. Ideas and volunteers welcome!

Victoria had problems with her eyes and a skin
