Our Stage 3 students will soon be undertaking an
adventure in the na onal capital. Students will be
given the opportunity ro par cipate in a variety of
educa onal programs with a focus on Australia’s
history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the
importance of all young Australians being able to
visit the na onal capital as part of the Civics and
Ci zenship educa on. To assist families in mee ng
the cost of the excursion the Australian Government
is contribu ng funding of $20 per student under the
Parliament and Civics Educa on Rebate program
towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to
the school upon comple on of the excursion.
This rebate has already been taken into account
when the total cost of the Canberra trip was
calculated.
If you have been present at our morning assembly
on Fridays, you would have heard the fun we’ve
been having the past term with Fun Fact Friday.
Ini ally, I assumed that I would be the sole fun fact
provider, crea ng a huge list in prepara on for the
weeks ahead. However, I have been pleasantly
surprised with the students’ ownership of this
exercise and very proud of their commitment to
researching and communica ng these interes ng
morsels of informa on. It’s wonderful to be a
partner in the students’ learning journey and
witness the joy knowledge can bring to our
community. I look forward to this terms’ fun facts.
Bring it on LPS!

Over the past term the Aboriginal students were given the opportunity to interview their families about
their cultural background. Some of the students have already met with me to create their personal story.
This week I am delighted to share Jacob’s Story.

Jacob’s Story
Hi, my name is Jacob Wallace. I was born in Blacktown and I am 9 years old. I come from a large family with 9 kids plus me. I am the fi h eldest. My favourite colour is red and favourite sport is tennis. I am a year 4 student at Luddenham Public School. My favourite food is spaghe and my least favourite is onions. I live on a chicken farm with many animals and my number one pet is Foxy our dog. When I grow up I would like to be an ar st, a gamer or a Youtuber. I am good at construc on and drawing. I am a proud Aboriginal boy.
My Dad was born in Blacktown too. He went to school at Patrician Boys School. His father, my Pop, came from Newcastle and went to Tighs Hill School in Newcastle and Maris Bros at Hamilton. His mother, my Great Grandmother, grew up in Moree. They are part of the Kamillaroi mob. Growing up they enjoyed local fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood and dairy. They spent their me enjoying football, cricket, athle cs, art and fishing. At Christmas they celebrated with Christmas trees, Christmas dinner and giving gi s. On birthdays they had the tradi on of sharing gi s while at Easter, Easter eggs were exchanged. Both New Years and Fire Cracker Night were also lots of fun, especially fire cracker night when a big bonfire was lit.
