QSTP: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, a
private not-for-profit organization re-established by a Decision of His Highness Sheikh
Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani dated 22 January 2007 in conformity with Law No. 21 of
2006 Concerning Private Institutions of Public Utility (Qatar), acting with respect to

A World of Data and
Communication
The Real Face of the
Data• Wal-Mart handles more
than 1million customer
transaction every hour, 2.5
petabytes the equivalent of
167 times the books in
America’s Library of
Congress
• Facebook website is home
to 40 billions photos
• Decoding the human
genome involves analyzing
3 billions base pairs which
took ten years the first time
it was done, in 2003, but
can now be achieved in
one week.
A Different Game• Open Source Software and
Cloud Computing in which
the internet is used as a
platform to collect, store
and process data allows
businesses to lease
computing power as and
when they need it
• More corporate functions,
such as Human Resources
or Sales, Public Services
like Health Care, are
managed over a network
Overload• Quantifying the amount of
information that exists in the
world is hard
• The growth is estimated at a
terrific rate CAGR 60%
• Experiments at CERN
generate 40 terabytes every
seconds
• This year 1.200 exabytes of
digital data will be generated
(Source: IDC)
• In 2008 households in USA
were bombarded with 3.6
zetabytes of information or 34
gigabytes per person per day
March of the Machine• In terms of bytes, written words
are insignificant, less than 0.1% of
the total
• The amount of reading people,
previously in decline, because of
television, has almost tripled since
1980 because of text on internet
• Information created by machines
and used by other machines will
probably grow faster than
anything else, database to
database
• Only 5% of the information that is
created is structured, words or
numbers
• Application like voice-recognition
and facial-recognition can identify
people and words in digital files
How to make sense
of all these data
• Sensors, computers, mobile
phones already exceeds the
available storage space
• Proliferation of data is making
them increasingly
inaccessible
The Need
• A network able to
deal with the
monster
• Solutions able to
create the monster
The Monster
• Predictive Analysis
A Different Game• The use of predictive
analytics on the basis of
large data sets is
transforming the health care.
We can spot potentially fatal
infections in premature
babies.
• The system monitors subtle
changes in seven streams of
real-time data, such as
respiration, heart rate and
blood pressure.
• The electrocardiogram
alone generates 1,000
readings per second
QSTP’s Disruptive Technology
(The Art of Visible)
• Rasad
• IQRA
• Wimatek (LTE)
It is all about communication between
people….
The rest is technology
اما ..... انه التواصل بني الناس
البقيه فهي جمرد تكنلوجيا

Rasad
RASAD, which can be more easily pronounced, is the past
form of RASD. However, RASAD (monitored) translates into
both past and present tense in English which ultimately fits
into the description of the platform where the information is
continuously being collected and processed
RASAD / َرَصد
