  • SSWITZERLANDCROSSROAD OF EUROPE

By its central geographical location, Switzerland is an ideal international

destination for business, incentive and leisure travel.

Switzerland is a country with many different facets. It unites an impressive

variety of landscapes in a small geographical area and benefits from an excep-

tional natural heritage. As an important centre for communication and trans-

port between the countries of Northern and Southern Europe, it has a com-

mon frontier with Germany, France, Italy, and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The Alpine Arc, just a few kilometres away from Lausanne, features some of

the finest mountain peaks like the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc or the Jungfrau,

and spectacular passes: Grimsel, St Gotthard, Simplon and Great St Bernard.

Two rivers have their source here: the Rhne and the Rhine.

These natural assets are further enhanced by security and dependability,

    Swiss values par excellence.

  • 6ALike Switzerland, Lausanne benefits from regular and direct access from all

over the world via two international airports. As distances are very short,

visitors can enjoy changing scenery and atmosphere in a matter of minutes

at the heart of the European road network (A1/E25 and A9/E27), on one of

the most compact railway networks in the world (CFF on the GenevaZurich

services, TGV and EC direct to Paris and Milan), by air (45 minutes from

Geneva-Cointrin International Airport), or even by water thanks to the ships

operated by the Compagnie Gnrale de Navigation on Lake Geneva. What-

ever the number of participants, the different means of local transport (bus,

metro, taxi) are reliable and efficient, whilst ensuring that transfers are

    quick and comfortable.

The University of Lausanne isbased by the lake in the magnifi-cent Dorigny park. There you willbenefit both from an infrastructurecreated specifically for seminarsand conferences, and from a uni-versity campus setting that isutterly exceptional in terms of itsbeauty, its access to Lake Genevaand its century-old trees. The different conference rooms atUNIL are spread around its site andprovide seating capacity for 20 to800 people. The biggest audito-rium is in the Amphimax building, which can be divided into 2 sec-

tions of 300 and 500 places. Thesedimensions give rise to a revisedconcept of the notion of an auditorium: efficient audiovisualresources and screens replaceblackboards, whilst there is now noneed to be facing in the directionof a central speaker. These condi-tions provide for new layout op-tions: the floor can be horizontaland mobile desks distributed freelyin line with requirements. Seminarrooms and a new 400-seater cafeteria round off this pro-gramme, which covers a total areaof 8,255 m2.
