The ProgramThe LSU Honors High School Credit Program offers ambitious middle and high school students the opportunity to earn a unit of honors high school credit in just six weeks! We pro-vide enthusiastic teachers who are certified in their subjects, a low student-teacher ratio, the facilities of a major univer-sity and the opportunity to fulfill college entrance require-ments. Several of our instructors have earned a Master’s degree, are certified to teach gifted students, and have completed significant coursework toward a doctoral degree. All of our instructors’ credentials and courses are reviewed and approved by the Louisiana Department of Education.

EligibilityTo be eligible to enroll in this program, students must be entering grades 7-12 and have at least an “A/B” average in prerequisite (preferably honors) courses. All courses require daily homework and/or studying for daily tests, sometimes up to 3 hours a day. Because the courses move at a fast pace, students must have a high degree of motivation, per-sistence and self-discipline, and be determined to keep up with daily instruction in order to do well.

Students who have previously taken a course in this program in which they earned a final grade of less than a “C” are not eligible to re-enroll. Students who have previously earned a “C” in the program and wish to re-enroll will be considered on a case-by-case basis. In these cases, behavior as well as academic performance will be considered in deciding whether the student will be readmitted. Students cannot enroll for courses already taken in school.

ScheduleThe LSU 2008 Honors High School Credit Program meets from June 9 - July 18. To fulfill the Louisiana Department of Education requirement that students spend 180 hours in a course to obtain a unit of credit, one-credit courses meet for approximately six-and-a-half hours each day, from 8 a.m.to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for six weeks. Half-credit classes meet for three weeks. Web Mastering will be held June 9–26. Desktop Publishing will meet from July 1–18. Classes will not meet on June 27 or July 4.

Course SelectionOne-Credit Courses: Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, Chemis-try, Geometry, Trigonometry & Advanced Math. Half-Credit Courses: Web Mastering, Desktop Publishing. All courses are taught on an honors level. After completion of a summer course, grades and credits may be transferred to the student’s school, or the course can be considered noncredit with no notification to the school. Enrollment in each course is limited in order to keep the class size small. Courses which do not reach a minimum enrollment may have to be canceled. Please register as soon as possible to maximize access to courses. If a course is canceled, the entire course tuition will be refunded.

Tuition and FeesTuition for a one-unit high school credit course is $425. Tuition for a half-unit high school credit course is $295. Students must submit the entire fee when registering. Tuition can be paid with a check made payable to LSU or can be charged on Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. Students who are not accepted will receive a complete refund.

Scholarships Partial scholarships for the Honors High School Credit Pro-gram are available on the basis of financial need plus aca-demic performance. These scholarships are provided by the Gulf South Rotating Machinery Symposium and Dow Chemical Company. To apply for a scholarship, complete the scholar-ship application form on the web site and submit it with the required supporting materials by may 2, 2008. All applicants will be informed by mail of their status.

Refund Policy A 90% refund will be given for students who withdraw and return textbooks before the second day of classes. After the second day, no refund is guaranteed.
