Student Council

1 Aims

1.1 to encourage students to concern about their school and to participate in school improvement

1.2 to cultivate the spirit of self management among students and to provide them with daily experience in managing themselves

1.3 to foster student-teacher communication and collaboration through discussion on school affairs

1.4 to develop students’ leadership through organising student activities

2 Organisation

2.1 4 Teacher Advisors (Standing Advisors and Special Advisors)

3 Meetings

3.1 A total of three meetings are held in a year, one in each school term

3.2 Agendas are set by the teacher advisors and student representatives through discussion

3.3 Areas of concern include school development, campus life, student performance and school programmes and activities

3.4 Student representatives raise issues for discussion and reflect opinions from their student representative organisations in the meeting

3.5 Student representatives take turns to draft the minutes which will be amended by the teacher advisors

3.6 The teacher advisors and student representatives are responsible for presenting and reporting any important issues raised in the meeting to their organisations for follow-ups

4 Activities

4.1 Student representatives attend Annual Student Consultation Meeting to collect opinions from peers

4.2 Priorities are given to them to join leadership programmes and exchange programmes

4.3 They collaborate with different student organisations to organise various activities for their fellow schoolmates

4.4 They serve as our school ambassadors to promote the school image in the community

Student Voice Strategy

Students’ learning and personal growth are the key

concern of our school. We consider student voice an

integral part of school self-evaluation and improvement.

By adopting a three-tier strategy, we help our students to

become confident, responsible and active members of the

school community.

Student as Co-Learners

• catered for all students

• aimed at developing students’ core values, basic personal qualities and generic skills

• so that they can identify themselves with the school culture, can reflect on their learning experience, and can express their feelings and views about their school experience through appropriate channels

• example of programmes include :

uniform group training for all S1 classes, social services training and reflection handbooks for all S2 classes, drama education and student learning profile for all S3 classes, project learning for all S1-S3 classes, classroom learning questionnaires, ECA questionnaires and stakeholders survey, morning reading periods, class teachers periods and value-education talks and other activities for all S1-S7 classes

Student as Co-Organisers

• catered for students with different potentials and students who serve as executives of student organisations

• aimed at providing students with opportunities to help their teachers, their peers and themselves through participating in and organizing a variety of school activities

• so that they can have a sense of community involvement and ownership, live out and sustain the school culture

• examples of programmes include :

self-management teams in S1-S3, study groups in S4-S7, class associations in all classes, running of house and club activities, team work in school functions, inter-school activities, school ambassador programmes, library services, peer guidance (small teacher) and discipline (prefects), volunteer services for school and community, exchanges with student leaders from other school, meeting with teachers-in-charge and the principal

Student as Co-Leaders

• catered for committed students, and students who are elected or recommended as representatives of student organisations

• aimed at providing students with practical experience to develop their leadership in daily school lives on different domains such as learning and teaching, student support, school environment and administration

• so that they can make contribution to their school and have a real sense of achievement

• examples of programmes include :

Student Union and Student Council activities, special task group on student and school affairs (e.g. lunch box, school uniform, library renovation, etc.), election and inauguration ceremonies, leadership training workshops and camps, Overseas/Mainland Study Tour, student surveys, regular meetings and appointment with teachers-in-charge and the principal
