The Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department, operating

under the advisement of the Board of Park Commissioners, is

dedicated to developing and maintaining beautiful, safe and

environmentally friendly open spaces for the public to use and

enjoy. Through affordable, comprehensive and exceptional

experiences, we build a sense of community, enrich people’s

lives and contribute to total development of the individual,

family, and the Longmeadow community. We strive to meet the

needs of our customers and residents and the needs of the Town

of Longmeadow through activities and parks that are

representative of the best practices of our profession.

Cancellation Information

Information Hotline - Call 413.565.2255 for up to the minute

cancellation and event information. Programs held at schools will

be cancelled when school is cancelled.

Community House Facility Rental

Are you looking for a convenient space for a lecture, an

anniversary celebration, etc.? The Longmeadow Community

House will seat up to 200 people auditorium style or 150 for a sit

down dinner. Rentals are on a first come, first served basis.

Park Permits

Park Permit Forms can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation

Department office or on the web at www.lprd.net.

Program Registration

Initial Registration for Programs begins when you receive this

brochure, unless otherwise noted in the program description. All

registrations are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis until the

program maximum or established deadline. Use the activity

numbers listed under program description and to search online

for registration. Registration can be done online at ww.lprd.net,

in person at the Community House or a completed registration

form can be faxed or mailed in to the Community House with

payment included. Payments are due in full at the time of

registration and can be made by check made payable to LPRD,

cash or credit card. NOTE: there is a $10 fee added to all

non-resident registrations.

Refund Policy

No refunds will be given after the program registration deadline

or start of the program. A $25 processing fee will be deducted for

any refund.

Fee Assistance

The Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department’s programs,

classes and special events are available to all residents regardless

of economic status. We provide fee assistance for qualified

residents and a confidential application is available in our office

or on the web at: www.lprd.net.

After School Program, Grades K-5 Transportation is provided from Longmeadow Public Schools

at 2:45pm to Greenwood Center until 6pm. Registration is

accepted for the following:

Early Risers Before School Program, Grades K-5 The Early Risers Program is offered at Wolf Swamp, Blueberry

Hill and Center Schools each morning beginning at 7:15am until

the start of the school day.

Longmeadow Parks and Recreation congratulates Greenwood Extended Day program for achieving a Level 2 rating by

the Department of Early Education and Care’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). QRIS is a method to assess, improve and communicate the level of quality in early care & education and after-school

settings. We are proud to offer our participants such a level of service.

Hartford Yard Goats Tickets

Professional baseball is back in Hartford! Pick up your tickets for the 5:05pm

game on Saturday, July 9 vs. Portland or the 7:05pm game on Saturday, August 6

vs. Binghamton. Be part of this new era and state-of-the art ballpark. Our tickets, located in the field box section, are only $15 and include $2 loaded onto the ticket

which can be redeemed inside the stadium for concessions! Parking is available

in any of the area garage facilities for a reasonable, additional price.

Tickets available for purchase after May 1st at the Community House.

New Parents’ Support Group, Greenwood Center

Thursdays & Fridays 10-11am

Gain support, meet new friends and establish bonds with other new parents. This group is open to new parents and their infants from birth to one year of age.

This program is offered through Baystate Medical Center Parent Education

Department. Call 794.5515 for more information. No meetings during school

vacation weeks (4/18-4/22). This program is FREE! No sign-up is required.

Moms Club of Longmeadow

Moms Club of Longmeadow is a support group for all Moms with children of any age. We provide great opportunities for children and Moms to socialize,

build friendships, learn and grow together. We also work to strengthen the

community with multiple community service projects throughout the year. We schedule most activities during the day, when many Moms need the most

support. Our activities include: general meetings, monthly Moms Night Out

events, weekly playgroups, outings and group activities, seasonal celebrations, cooking groups, a walking and running group, a book discussion group, a Lego

Youth Programs

JumpingClay, Spring Ponds Ages 5 & Up, Greenwood Center

Jumping clay is an air-drying polymer clay that is 100% safe and non-toxic and

completely mess free! Our workshop provides step by step instruction and assis-

tance by trained instructors while encouraging creative self expression and build-

ing confidence. Let’s celebrate Spring with a pond theme! Each participant will create their own 3-D pond display including landscape and animals such as frogs,

turtles, and caterpillars using JumpingClay while learning about basic shapes and

color mixing, Beginners welcome!

Youth Track Program, Ages 7-14, LHS Track

Youth will be placed on teams and participate in a series of track and field meets

conducted at the LHS track over the course of the season. Participants will be exposed to a variety of track and field events including sprints, middle distance

runs (up to one mile), shot put, long jump, hurdles, and relays. Emphasis will be

placed on skill development, physical fitness, and individual improvement over

the course of the season. Parents will be expected to assist with timing at one

track meet during the season. Parents who have a background in track and field

or running and who wish to make a greater commitment during practices or meets should indicate their interest when registering their child.

Karate- Shotokan Style , Ages 5-13, Olde Town Hall Shotokan Karate-Do (SKIF System) is a traditional Japanese martial art. The

study of karate is an inner search for growth and self-discipline, which encom-

passes many ideals. Students will be trained in the basic exercises involving punching, blocking, kicking, stances, forms, sparring, and self-defense. A white

karate uniform is required and can be ordered through your instructor Jim Shea.

Spring Tennis Lessons, Ages 6-10, Blinn Tennis Courts

Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to serve, hit the tennis ball and

Kid’s Yoga , Grades K-2, Greenwood Center Join Instructor Carleen Sarno for a fun, playful and safe kids yoga practice at

Greenwood Center! This yoga series is designed to build strength, concentration,

flexibility and community, through the time honored tradition of yoga. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and bring your own mat or borrow one of ours!

Around the World Creativity Tour with Let’s Gogh Art, Grades K-4 Blueberry Hill Cafeteria Art travelers go on a whirlwind tour of the world, traveling among different countries and cultures. Create hot air balloons to take you up and away! Each week we land somewhere in our amazing world and create wicked cool cultural

art using unique materials and imaginative art techniques. In Puerto Rico, we play

with clay and make colorful Vejigante masks. We design with Mosaics in Greece, make Tribal Rain Sticks in Australia, and create Maracas in Brazil, just

to name a few. Fun facts about each country and culture, geography and art history are included. A scholarship may be available for a child whose parent is willing to

new and mysterious mediums, and discover surprising techniques to transform familiar materials into magical masterpieces. Build lizard playgrounds out of

special sticky "noodles," and make something glow in the dark. Wave wands over

t-shirts to form swirling "lollipops." Stir a few unexpected items into a "fluffy goop" potion. The results are totally "WOW." And...voila...young art magicians

bring home masterpieces each week. A scholarship may be available for a child whose

Let’s Gogh Art, Superhero Spaceships and Secret Identities Art-ventures,

Grades K-5, Community House Superhero's will soar off on a top-secret mission to save planet earth using the

most important superpower of all: imagination! We’ll create our own bean mosaic superhero masks to protect our secret identities, then blast off in super-duper spaceships built out of recycled materials. As members of the league

of super art heroes, children learn how to save the earth with exciting and environmentally-conscious masterpieces.

create vibrant shapes and geometric designs on t-shirts using a special resist technique. Then, transform the letters of the alphabet into awesome abstract drawings.

Ultimate Fairytale Adventure, Ages 3-6, Community House Dance Studio Our ladies begin their day by dressing-up as royals with crowns and scepters before continuing their adventure with fairytale activities, such as crafts, a fashion

show, song and dance, tumbling, and use “mini” gymnastic equipment such as

beam, parallel bars and rings! For the Grand Finale, parents will be invited to a royal “Crowning Ceremony” that will include a performance! Please wear leotard

and skirt or shorts and ballet slippers. Please pack a peanut free snack and lunch

Soccer Clinic, Ages 7-11, Greenwood Center Brad Miller, LHS Varsity Coach and his staff of Next Level Adventure will provide their expertise on fitness, skill development and making the game of

soccer fun in this two day clinic. Participants are required to provide their own

Spring Baseball Clinic, Ages 7-12, Greenwood Park Chris Corkum of Chris Corkum’s Baseball Camps, Inc. and his staff will provide instruction in fielding, throwing, hitting, pitching, and physical conditioning.

Each child’s strengths and weaknesses will be evaluated to allow for growth

based on individual needs. Rain date is Wednesday April 20.

All Levels Yoga, Community House /Greenwood Center Join us for this all levels yoga class suitable for beginner to advanced students. Throughout the practice, posture modifications will be offered to accommodate

all levels and abilities. Renew, relax, and rejuvenate in a comfortable, safe and

Tai Chi, Ages 16 & Up, Olde Town Hall Tai Chi is less strenuous than other martial arts, with an emphasis on deep breathing, slow movements, and chi (energy) development. Class involves traditional warm-ups and stretching, breathing exercises, stances and 3-part form. Wear comfortable clothing, a flat sole indoor sneaker, dance shoe or bare

feet. Your instructor is James P. Shea 7th Dan SKIF.

Summer Tai Chi in the Park-Yang Style, Ages 16 & Up, Bliss Park Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise that uses slow, smooth body movement

and concentrates on breathing and balance to achieve a state of relaxation of both body and mind and chi (energy) development. It is less strenuous than other

martial arts that offers general health benefits including improved concentration,

stress reduction, flexibility and strength. The class involves traditional warm-ups

and stretching, breathing exercises, stances and 3-part form. Wear comfortable

clothing, a flat sole indoor sneaker, dance shoe or bare feet. Your instructor is James P. Shea 7th Dan SKIF. He is a licensed Karate do and Tai Chi instructor

and has been teaching for over 30 years.

Golf Instruction for Adults, Fenway Golf East Longmeadow This group instruction program is designed for those who need instruction in

putting, chipping, pitching, driving, and use of irons. The program also focuses on rules and etiquette of golf. The last two weeks of this program participants

will practice skills learned during self-guided rounds on the golf course. Look for

the green canopy at Fenway Golf to find instructor and PGA Professional, Bob Lake.

Digital Photography Boot Camp, Greenwood Center Would you like to understand your camera and take better pictures? This class is

perfect for you. In five lessons you will learn the basic principles of photography

and how to take control of your digital SLR camera. We will cover camera settings, lens, exposure, flash, composition and much more. Boot camp includes

lessons, demonstrations and a binder with all printed material. To register contact

Longmeadow Newcomers’ Club The Longmeadow Newcomers' Club is an organization of women of all ages who

have recently moved to Longmeadow. The club provides numerous opportunities

for new residents to get to know one another and feel at home in their new town and have a lot of fun. Activities include: book club, wine and dine, couples

events, game nights and much more. New members are welcome at any

Summer Private Swim Lessons for Youth and Adults There is limited space available for those who require or desire a more intimate learning environment. Lessons are 30 minutes and cost $20 each. Register by

visiting the Pool Manager at either Outdoor Pool.

Swim Lessons, Ages 4-18, Greenwood or Reynolds Pool Group lessons follow American Red Cross guidelines and are taught by our experienced lifeguards. Levels start at beginner and progress to a challenging advanced swimmer course. Class levels may be combined depending on enrollment. Participants should be comfortable in the water and toilet-trained. Lessons are held in two-week sessions, Monday through Friday.

General Camp Information Campers will travel to swim lessons, free swim, Art, Drama, Sports and STEM

with his/her camp group. All Campers will meet together for snacks, lunch and

Outdoor Aquatics General Information Our two Outdoor Aquatic Facilities, Greenwood and Reynolds Pool are supervised by trained and certified Red Cross Lifeguards. An adult must accompany children under 11 years of age. Passes and Daily pool admissions for

the two outdoor pools may be purchased individually or for a household. All

individuals on a Household Pass must live in the residence. (Proof of residency may be required) All daily admissions and pass options are free to children age 3

and under with a paid adult. Pool rules can be found on www.lprd.net. Outdoor Aquatic Facilities Pools will open for weekends only June 11th and open full time beginning the

last day of school. Closing day TBD.

Greenwood Summer Day Camp Welcome to Camp! Please join us for Camp Open House on Friday, June 24th from 3-5:30pm. It is a great way for first time campers to become familiar with the facility, and meet the

Splish Splash Art Blast, Ages 5-11, Community House This inspiring week of art-ventures sparks creativity, engagement, exploration and

individual expression. Learn about the fascinating underwater world of seahorses, sea turtles and other wonderful creatures while exploring original art

forms and techniques. Design beach hats, sunglasses, and t-shirts. Discover the

art of mosaics while creating sea shell boxes. Sculpt shimmery coral and goofy clay octopuses. Paint ceramic fish banks, and design ocean creature stuffed animals. Experience painting, printmaking, stained glass, ceramics, collage,

mosaics, fabric art and working with clay. Face painting or glitter tattoos round out these totally cool Splish Splash art-ventures.

technique. Focus is placed on live ball drills that develop rallying and decision

Fall Youth Sports

Fall Soccer, Longmeadow Soccer Association Sponsored

This popular program, with over 900 participants last year, will run from September through November. In-town games are on Sundays. The optional

Travel involves a try out in the spring. Travel teams generally play on the

weekends, but might have a game or two on a weeknight. Practices are at the

discretion of the coach. Uniforms are provided for both In-town and Travel. To

register your players please go to the Longmeadow Soccer Association website at

longmeadowsoccer.org, beginning April 25, 2016. Returning and new coaches may register online as well.

Fee: Thanks to our sponsors, the registration fee will remain at $75. Additional

travel fee if a child makes a team of $105. A $25 late fee will be charged for registrations received after June 1, 2016. There are no refunds after July 1,

2016. A $5 service fee is retained for all refunds.

LSA Statement on Team Waivers: After much thought and consideration,

the Longmeadow Soccer Association has decided to no longer grant waivers

for teams playing outside of the town of Longmeadow. The Longmeadow

Soccer Association offers youth soccer programs beginning at the Pre-K age

group in our In-town program and also offers teams beginning at Under 8

age group through the Under 14 age group in our Travel program.

Suburban Youth Football Program – Sponsored

Participants are grouped by grade, age, skill, and experience levels with weight restrictions for certain positions. Pee Wee Program for 3rd & 4th graders; Junior

Program for 5th & 6th graders; Senior Program for 7th & 8th graders. Program emphasizes values, teamwork, and football fundamentals. All coaches

are USA Football certified! Starting in early August, pre-season practices

are each weeknight from 6pm-8pm at Williams Middle School reducing to 3-4 days each week when school starts. Eight games played Saturdays or Sundays

during September and October. Uniforms and equipment provided, but

participants supply their own cleats and mouth guard. Visit www.longmeadowfootball.org for additional information.

Registration Dates: May 11th and May 25th from 6-8pm at the Community

House. There will also be a booth at Longmeddowe Days. Fee: $160, with a program to reduce program costs to those in need. Multiple

players from the same family receive discounts. All new players and those who

did not play last year are required to bring a copy of their birth certificate to leave at registration. There will be flag football program for 1st & 2nd Graders. This

will be an 8 week program with games on Saturday morning. Registration fee is

$40 per person.

Travel Youth Field Hockey, Entering Grades 3-8, Wolf Swamp Fields This instructional program is designed to develop the skills necessary to play

competitive field hockey. All levels from beginner to advanced are welcome.

Teams travel to Agawam, East Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Westfield, South Hadley, Belchertown and Northampton. Each team participates in 2-3

tournaments or jamborees. Our home jamboree, Jammin’ in the Meadow, will be

held Saturday, 9/24/16. Season starts in late August and runs through the first week of November. Practices/games are 3-4 times each week. Parent coaches,

assistants and volunteers are needed. More information will be sent to the

participants in August. Each player must provide a stick, mouth guard, goggles and shin pads. We have a limited number of sticks to borrow. We provide a

uniform shirt and socks. In addition, players must wear plain black shorts to each

game.

Fall Cheerleading Program , Grades 3-8, Community House Practices will begin in August and will be in preparation for the Saturday and

Sunday football games beginning in the Fall of 2016. Cheerleaders will also

attend an area exhibition. Participants are asked to participate in fundraisers to offset the cost of program expenses. Cheerleaders are responsible for their

uniforms and gear which cost approximately $250 in addition to the registration

fee. A parent information meeting will be held in May and two pre-season

practice and assessments will be held in June, please visit www.lprd.net for these

dates and times and for additional registration and information. Registration will

be limited to 20 boys and girls per squad.
