Bangor Township, as well as Hartford, Lawrence and Arlington Township are rural farming communities, a perfect place for the Amish to settle. Many of you may have noticed the horse and buggy signs on some of our country roads. The horse and buggy is the main transportation for the Amish. Buggies are required by state law to have a “slow moving vehicle” placard on the backs of the vehicles. Many buggies are equipped with red LEd flashing lights on the back and amber lights on the front.

The 7th-grade boy's basketball team found themselves down 20-6 at halftime to the Irish from St. Augustine. There was a LOT of fight in the Tigers as they clawed their way back into the game with hard work on the defensive end, tying it with minutes to go in the 4th quarter. The Irish hit a bucket with 2 minutes to go to take a 2-point lead. The Tigers valiant comeback fell just short as they missed on a shot with seconds to go in the game. With the 28-26 loss, they fell to 0-2. They had a balanced scor-ing attack with Xavier Wilkes scoring 2, Ben Miller 4, Tony Lisowski 4, Brayton Dickerson 4, Connor Witt 6 and Alex Lee with 6 points. Connor Witt led the team with 9 rebounds, Alex Lee snagged 8, Xavier Wilkes 7, Ethan

Wait 5, Austin Quakenbush and Brayten Dickerson each had 4 and Ben Miller, Tony Lisowski, and Eli Huizinga had 2 apiece. The Tigers dropped their first game against Martin on Mon-day, November 12, 21 to 16 in a defensive battle. Gobles trailed by 8 at halftime and chipped away at the lead in each of the 3rd and 4th quarters but weren’t able to overcome the deficit. Connor Witt lead scoring with 12 points including 2, 3 pointers and Brayton Dickerson and Alex Lee also scored 2 points apiece. We knew going into the game that Hackett was a great team. We en-tered tonight having not played since 12/14 and that showed early. After go-ing down 15-4 in the first quarter we pulled within 2, but Hackett ended the half on a run and we went in down 7. Much like against Constantine, there

was a point where we seemed defeated and it got ugly quickly thereafter. They started running and we started playing their game and a 9-point deficit be-came 18 by the end of the 3rd. We will regroup and look to stay undefeated in Conference play Friday against Co-loma at home.

The contest saw Bloomingdale fall behind quickly, ending the first quarter trailing 9-17. The girls picked it up in the 2nd quarter, going into halftime down by just 2 points with a score of 19-21. In the 2nd and 3rd quarters, Bloomingdale's defense held Del-ton Kellogg to just 4 and 6 points respec-tively but struggled offensively. The 3rd quarter ended deadlocked 27. In the end, the Lady Cardinals couldn't overcome their poor shooting and took the loss 34-38. Kallie Harrison lead Bloomingdale scorers with 10, Liza Hutchins 9, Katrise Hudson 5, Isabella Kelly and Olaisa Moss each had 4 and Bailey Robinson 2. The Varsity girls basketball team used a big first half to overtake Eau Claire 71-6. The Lady Cardinals opened up a large lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

The team was led by the Sophomore-Senior duo of Kallie Harrison and Liza Hutchins. Harrison narrowly missed a double, double ending the night with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Liza Hutchins was on fire from beyond the arc with 4 three-point buckets and ended the evening with 20 points. Junior, Katrise Hudson, dominated the boards both on the offensive and defensive ends while adding 10 points. Sophomore, Olaisa Moss, looked confident on offense tallying 9 points. Senior, Nelly Gonzalez chipped in 4 points, while Isabella Kelly, Bailey Robinson and Allison Starbuck each notched a bucket.

Cardinal Wrestling The 2018-19 wrestling season has begun. The wrestling team is coming off of a record setting season last year. The Cardinal wrestlers placed second in the SouthWest 10 conference and won the first district wrestling championship in school history. The Cardinals ended the season as the regional runners-up. Returning to the team this year are a number of talented upper classmen. Senior Noah Perez returns at 189 pounds. Noah was a regional qualifier last season. Juniors Brian Jackson, Parris John-son, Matt Streeter and Julian Reyes return this season. Julian was a state qualifier last season and returns to fill the 125 pound slot. All-Stater, Carlos Garcia is back for his junior season and will wrestle in the lower weights. The Cardinals will look to a trio of talented new-comers this season in Gabriel Perez, David Garcia and Chris Streeter. Veteran coach, Dennis Paquette is back for his second season with the Cardinal grap-plers. “We are hoping to build on the success of last season and grow as a program. We have good numbers this year and that al-ways helps. We are a very young team, but the kids work hard and they listen. We will strive to be ready for the end of the season

tournaments.” Coach Paquette said. The wrestlers started the season with a pair of dual meets at Kalamazoo Central High School. The Cardinals defeated Ban-gor before falling to the Maroon Giants of Kalamazoo Central. Matt Streeter led the team on opening night with two victories. The Cardinal wrestlers opened the tournament portion of the season at the Galesburg-Augusta Invitational. The wres-tlers finished second to Plainwell and just ahead of Kalamazoo Loy Norrix and South Haven. Bloomingdale had four medalists at the tournament. Placing for the Cardinals were Gabriel Perez, Julian Reyes, Brian Jackson and Noah Perez.

Varsity Boys Fight Through Injury and Illness for 3 Wins The Cardinal Boys Varsity Basketball Team has struggled through their fair share of adversity en route to their current three-game winning streak. Standout Michael Ellis is nearing a come-back from a sprained knee that occured on a putback dunk attempt in a scrimmage against Paw Paw. Ellis has not played yet this season, but is making a promising re-covery and hopes to see the court soon. Sharpshooter Eric Gumpert made a valiant attempt to tough it out yesterday, but the only baskets he saw were the clos-

est trash cans in school and unfortunately he was forced to go home due to illness. Throughout a significant bought of illness, the team has responded well to the changes necessary to effectively fill the practice and game roles of teammates. The guys started the season at Martin with a discombobulated effort against the Clip-pers. Mentally and physically it was a poor performance for the Cardinals. The second game brought significant improvement when Kalamazoo Christian came to town. The team held the back to

back regional champions to 42 points and offensively we got almost every look we sought. Unfortunately, we did not connect on hardly any of our wide-open shots and only put 27 points on the scoreboard. The beginning of league play brought Mendon, Centreville and Eau Claire to town and the Cardinals saw things begin to come together. Since we may never become the offensive juggernaut that we desire, de-fense is going to be significant this season. The teams recent three wins by the scores of 60 - 27, 52 - 38 and 52 - 34 showed that

a defensive resolve is reaping rewards. The team took on the defending Southwest 10 Champion Cassopolis Rangers Friday, Jan. 11 at home. Players on the 2018 - 2019 Varsity Boys Basketball Team includes: Seniors Tim Douglas, Joel (Jo Jo) Butler, Eric Gumpert, Clifford Farmer, Caleb Hosier, and Douglas Spates; Juniors are Pierce Manning, Anthony Lathum, Michael Ellis, Bobby Boyer, LJ Finch and Tyler Starbuck. The team is coached by Mike Douglas and Joel Douglas and man-aged by Reese Jacobsen.
