Helpful Hints for Course Selection 2015 - 2016

All freshmen sign up for 8 credits.

The core courses that all freshmen take include: English, Biology, World Geography, and Algebra 1 or Geometry. In addition, it is wise to begin (or continue) your “Language other than English” credit as a freshman. We offer Spanish, German, American Sign Language and French.

We strongly recommend you take an elective course relating to your endorsement.

Be sure to refer to the Academic Planning Guide to make sure you are choosing prerequisite classes needed for higher level courses or programs at AHS.

You may sign up for on-level classes or advanced classes or a combination of both. Advanced courses are very rigorous and may require extra prep time outside of class during the week. Refer to the Advanced Academics handout in the registration packet for more information about advanced courses.

If you are currently in Math 8, sign up for Algebra 1 or Algebra I Pre-AP/IB

If you are currently in Algebra 1, sign up for Geometry or Geometry Pre-AP/IB

If you choose a one-semester class (1/2 credit course), you MUST choose another one-semester course to add up to one full credit.

You do NOT register for the classes listed below! You choose the placeholder titled – “App – course name” (ex, App - PALS). If you are selected to be a participant you will be moved into the class. If not, you will be placed in your alternate class.

Applications /Information/Physical forms are available on the Lowery website (CHECK OFTEN) www.allenisd.org/Lowery

Athletic physicals must be on file prior to tryouts

Pre-AP/IB GT Phoenix English is only open to students who have been identified as gifted and talented by AISD criteria. Students not already identified as gifted in Allen ISD may register for the district GT screening . Registration forms will be available on the GT website accessed through the AISD home page, under Learner Services, or by contacting Barb Myer, AISD GT Coordinator, by phone at 972-727-0332 or by email at [email protected]

You must select 3 alternate courses ( 1 full credit class and 2 semester classes). List them in order of preference. Alternate courses are used in these situations:

You are cut from a sport

A class you selected did not “make”.

A class you selected does not fit in your schedule—this could happen when certain courses are offered at very limited times or fill up very quickly.

Refer to Academic Planning Guide for Course Descriptions and Course Numbers.
