Cirque Pardi! is initiated by Maël Tortel in 2011. The inspiration to create a self-designed circus tent is powered by his artis-tic perspectives and the curiosity for administrative and logistical experimentation. A new and horizontally organized collective

emerges, searching new forms of artistic production, innovating partnerships by questioning the involvement of cultural actors and organizers within their territories. We did not invent the hot water, but as chemists apprentices, we try to boil it!

In 2013, a Cabaret joins ten artists who develop their artistic research collectively and Pardi! circus hits the road. In 2014, after three years of creation, construction and structuring, Pardi! releases its first show BorderLand, a creation that shifts structural boundaries

affirming their identity as a visually daring and experimental circus.

Convinced by its ability to alter space and time perception, by its implication to appropriate public spaces, the proximity with the pu-blic, the autonomy of the artists, the life on the road…

Cirque Pardi! starts a new creation under THE BIG TOP.

An important headline to start the artistic process will be the transformation of the original space under the big top. It will be

necessary to reinvent this space. New dimensions will appear with the scenography for the new show and by moving tribunes and stage.

CREATIVE PROCESS

COLLECTIVE PARDI! ?

They are characters who meet on stage exchanging their experiences and circus disciplines. They enjoy the freedom to act and recognize the urgency to talk about a society that roars, suffers and indulges within its limitations and disorders. They desire to unite where there is disunity and to crown a king when he is anonymous. To take the possibility of experimentation and failure as a creative source. To accept this world of images and paradoxes we are part of, transforming it into a new one that fits them.

COLLECTIVE CREATION (artistically directed )

The main motivation for this new show is the furious desire of the group to get back on the road towards artistic challenges and surprises. There is a personal and collective need to start a new and more mature creative project, processing the experiences with

BorderLand.

Two laboratories made it possible to create a new collective and to figure out their common artistic inspirations. We are currently in search of residencies ..

Artistic laboratories give the opportunity to exchange the personal artistic developments.

These laboratories allow to clarify the cast and to start up the production.

Residencies in 2017 and 2018. We imagine 17 weeks of creation.2017 // Artists will develop their material autonomously. Pardi! Gives preference to a collective creation in order to reveal a personal sincerity on stage. This will be the time to develop personal artistic material and to teamwork on the script. 2018 // Last  year of the creation.Pardi is currently still looking for an artistic director. Tell me, William We did not even think about what will happen to the Empire if the King dies one day. He is old, he forgets what he will say, only dust is left to his orders. Empiricism has become a mere word, replaced by others, such as «communication», «culture», or even «the King’s burial». When that empiricism is connected with the Empire, if only etymologically, it is time to organize. We think about it right now, live on stage of Pardi! The Empire falls into a gloomy place, it has still some colors left. The old man is even older, now he can become the King. The young one is older too, that’s a normal procedure, and he will become the King. And the other ones, same thing, are older than before, and they crown themselves with real crowns that they find in the dirt so they become the King of the Empire. So now, dear observer, we do not longer speak of normality.

The hierarchy : abandoned! The prince, her son, the queens, the people, the bird, everybody : the King! Plural : singular! And : vice versa! Time : deviated from its straight line! Dimensions : countless axes! Oh, oneiric attack! Reveal us your delusions! Make us choose between our absurd desires, between being and pretending! The Empire finds itself in a hole, it moves, it is noisy,  there are big walls around it to protect it from the rising water. If you are, by any chance, a pelican flying over it, you will spend some time above it without even knowing why. You’ll go down to put on a real King’s crown. There are about three of these Queens dancing the pogo-dance. They are the King of the Empire.

You will be seduced by their silent hysteria, and feel the desire to be part of this soap opera, which releases the most hazardous acts of this circus! It is even quite possible that you, erratic pelican, are the mother of William Tell, King of the Empire!

MUSICHere lies the empire.

In this vast dusty room, a tape recorder spitting out an almost inaudible melody

over and over again. Sedulous. Since a long time ago.

A guitar standing in front of its amplifier distills a soft feedback.

A diva sings an Argentinian lullaby. The foolish servant standing on a platform,

accompanies her on his keyboards. The princess, under the pressure of time, slaps

on her drums, her eyes are closed.

This is our home.

A nacred sound escapes from this ambiance, decadent and oneiric.

As if that fateful day was repeated forever.

A fiery concert on ice.

Your new sovereignty will suit you, it is close to the freedom of your dreams, because you’re surrounded by locked up sovereigns. When you find out the color of your blood at lunchtime, you will already have decided to cut off your wings. Red will mix with the cold, and the blue blood will turn into green in the altitude. This height, however, has lost its sense now.

It claims its lost values and sings the song of the King’s dance. And after dinner, when all the plates are finished, when all the guests have smoked there cigarette, they will lie down, gently,

without any special reasons.

And then they dieThey simply die.

Different aspects around circus arts, like the artistic researches, physical challenges and psychic adventures keep on exiting her. In Cirque Pardi! she finds a way to combine these values by creating an itinerant cultural meeting place where boundaries happen to diminish. Carola Aramburu Musician, Aerial hoop, Dance

She meets street arts through a collective project to save a school in Buenos Aires. Circus also ends up saving her adolescence, instinctively, like all the other things she does in life. She continues to live the circus arts in various forms.

Fynn Neb Vertical Rope

He evolves on the rope as he moves on the floor, his gestures are guided by his breath. His body practice leads him to performance and dance in a very natural way. If he pushes his performance so far, it´s because there is no limit!

She starts her life by travelling the world under paradoxical but common pretexts: flee boredom and avoid all work. To be in several places at the same time is one of her biggest challenges, on stage as on earth. Antoine Bocquet Musician, Composer and Plastic installations

Musician, Composer and Plastic installations Antoine Bocquet navigates for 7 years playing under big tops, in theaters and public spaces. The more he progresses, the more he feels the desire to «poeticize» different kind of areas with photography, light and sound. Julien Mandier New magic, Clown, Manipulation of objects

Julien Mandier, born in Valencia, spiritual son of Bruno Lochet, François Morel, but also Jean Pierre Papin, is a clown, juggler and stuntman. Cyril Monteil / Light designer and Technician

His first labours as a light technician are at the age of 14 under the direction of his father who was an artistic director and actor. Passionate of images and shows, he founded MAMA Productions in 1995, which produces short films with young troublemakers. He is light manager for live shows, theater, dance and music with a specialization in multimedia, as well as stage manager and electrician for various movies and short films. For ten years he is technical director and light creator for the company Group Merci from Toulouse. Yet currently involved in circus arts with Cirque Pardi! and Baro Evel Cirk company, he doesn´t neglect the theater stage nor the practice rooms of university where it introduces stu-dents to light management. Aloïs Pesquet / Technician, Constructor, Manipulation of objects

Brought up in the universe of the Royal de Luxe and Archaos, Aloïs Pesquer meets the company Sweatlodge and starts the construction of a Carnival created by the fantasy of a group of artistic constructors. He discovers the principles of the construction and me-talwork for live shows. Perceived by the Fusion Festival in Germany, he participates every year in the construction of the scenography of the circus-space. In parallel he builds machines for live shows and becomes a stage manager. COMPAGNIES / Sweatlodge / Enzo l’insaisissable

Timothée Loustalot Gares / Head Technician

Early fanatic of nomadism trying to understand the concept of freedom. On his journeys through Europe he discovers music, performing and scenic arts on the streets. He tries out constructing scenographies and circus equipment. He nourishes his inspirations with a multitude of encouters and forms himself into a general head technician, always remai-ning fascinated by the light... It has been for 40 years that we want to work together, 40 years, that´s not nothing.

INSPIRATIONS

A multitute of artists cross their roads throughout this jungle (see above) and influence their behavior, be it in their teenrooms or directly on the battlefield: with Sonic Youth, Charly Chaplin, Archaos and Forced Entertainment they develop their attack strategies.

Michel Houellebecq, Ionesco, Robert Musil, Frank Zappa, Kate Busch, Theodor W. Adorno and Emmanuel Kant teach them the theoretical bases.

They learn their dexterity by watching performances of Pina Bausch on Youtube having previously developed their corporal skills during special alcoholic gatherings in form of onomatopoeic representations of this certain youth movement ‘Punk‘.

Rodrigo Garcia, Frida Kahlo, Karol Józef Wojtyła and Royal de Luxe appear as icons on their T-shirts.

Their sociological researches are based on studies of Beverly Hills 192010 and Kommissar Rex, the movies of Jim Jarmusch, Michelan-gelo Antonioni and John Waters and certain portraits of Andy Warhol.

Lady Diana is for them, now as ever, the last instance in aesthetic questions.

BorderLand remains on the roads and squares of Europe until 2018 and we are preparing a tour to Canada and South America 2019. This show will have met the public more than 230 times. It is said that a company´s first creation often lacks maturity but promises a bright future for the next shows. We now initiate a second round, a new artistic creation. We invite you to share the risks and doubts of artistic pro-mises, the big top and its economy with us. To produce this new creation, we want to create partnerships with co-producers, to avoid a maintainance by hook or by crook, endless trips and exhaustion. You, producers, cultural actors and other partners, know well about the real costs of such a creation and the needs to anticipate and organize a coherent schedule, both considering the geographical aspect as the creative and financial one.
