LOW CARBON DESIGN

Production of construction materials (such as cement, iron & aluminium) uses 6% of global electricity and contributes over 12% of greenhouse gases.

Buildings can account for nearly 40% of Co2 emissions globally.

Low Carbon development could also act a draw for ‘ecotourism’ into Puton, which will have ongoing economic benefits.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
It is important for us to design the project with low carbon design principles in mind. The initial output of money and resources that may be necessary in the construction of a low carbon design far outweighs the ongoing environmental costs of a carbon intensive design. If we build with low carbon design principles in mind, it may also act as a draw for ‘ecotourism’ to the area.

Presentation Notes
Environmental aspects and impacts are concerned with the way a project/development relates with the environment.> Aspects are activities that affect the environment. > Impacts are the environmental changes/ issues created by the aspects. In order to increase the capacity for sustainability in development, aspects and impacts must be assessed. We have created an initial environmental aspect and impact assessment for the Puton Village project. Some of the main environmental considerations that are relevant to project are: Non-renewable resource consumption Co2 emissions Loss of biodiversity/ Habitat loss Natural disaster resilience We have incorporated these environmental considerations into our design proposal.

DESIGN BRIEFObjectives

The objective of this project is to create a multi-purpose education centre in Puton Village. The space should be designed so it can be used as a kindergarten, cultural centre, and playground. The project should also include improvement of the associated landscape.

Style

The design should incorporate a traditional Indonesian style. This includes a minimalistic approach and utilisation of local architecture techniques.

Exclusions and considerations

‘Stone’ and river must be visible upon entry to the area. Structure must be resistant to flood and earthquake. Sustainable building techniques should be used where appropriate. The structure should be permanent with minimum maintenance required.

ANALISIS STAKEHOLDER / STAKEHOLDER ANALYSIS

Presenter
Presentation Notes
We have identified the stakeholders that are important to the project and divided them into four groups based on importance. The most Important stakeholders are The NGOs who are funding the project (ABCD and Rotary), Puton Village community and RMIT and UGM. We have created a map of the stakeholders based on their importance, with red stakeholders the most important and green stakeholders the least important. In order for the project to be effective, we need to ensure that there is ongoing communication and engagement with these stakeholders. This will probably need to be via email, face-to-face meetings or Skype meetings.
