2016 was year-two of the scheduled three-year rotation. In accordance with this plan, Lake and Watershed surveyors carefully surveyed all littoral areas of ‘Group B’ waterbodies. Group B includes: Heald Pond; designated portions of Kezar Lake (Lower Bay, Northwest Cove, and areas adjacent to both public boat landings); a designated portion of Horseshoe Pond (the area adjacent to the public boat landing). The above areas were all thoroughly screened for the eleven invasive aquatic plant species on Maine’s prohibited list. The surveys took place during a (generally) fair weather period during the latter part of September. FINDINGS: NO INVASIVE AQUATIC PLANTS WERE OBSERVED IN ANY OF THE ABOVE SURVEY AREAS Additional data was collected in accordance with standardized protocols. LWRMA protocols (consistent with those developed by the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program and approved by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection) are detailed in earlier proposal documents provided to the Committee. This data includes: a) survey date/s and timeframe; b) names of the surveyors; c) general conditions encountered during the survey (weather and lake); d) whether or not an IAP was detected; e) inventory of native plants observed during the course of the survey; f) additional observations of note. Below is a summary of some of the more pertinent additional data. For more detail, please see the attached IAP Screening Survey Documentation Forms.

Master of camouflage, an American bittern was spotted among the emergent plants in Lower Bay, Kezar Lake. For more on this reclusive heron, please visit www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/american_bittern/id

Thank you once again for choosing Lake and Watershed for this project. We are very pleased to have had this opportunity to continue our work with LIPPC to better understand and protect Lovell’s extraordinary water resources.

Respectfully,

Scott Williams Principal, Aquatic Biologist Lake & Watershed Resource Management Associates
