How many understand Radha-Krishna's love?
4rom Swami Vivekananda%s lecture Bhakti! delivered at Sialkote! 1un/a'—Take the story of
R,dh, and $rishna in R,salil, The story sim&ly exem&lifies the true s&irit of a "hakta! 'ecause no love in the world exceeds that existing 'etween a man and a woman -hen there
is such intense love! there is no fear! no other attachment save that one which 'inds that &air
in an inse&ara'le and all)a'sor'ing 'ond "ut with regard to &arents! love is accom&anied
with fear due to the reverence we have for them -hy should we care whether God created
anything or not! what have we to do with the fact that 0e is our &reserver5 0e is only our
"eloved! and we should adore 0im devoid all thoughts of fear . man loves God only when
he has no other desire! when he thinks of nothing else and when he is mad after 0im That
love which a man has for his 'eloved can illustrate the love we ought to have for God
$rishna is the God and Radha loves 0im6 read those 'ooks which descri'e that story! and
then you can imagine the way you should love God "ut how many understand this5 0ow can
&eo&le who are vicious to their very core and have no idea of what morality is understand all
this5 -hen &eo&le drive all sorts of worldly thoughts from their minds and live in a clear
moral and s&iritual atmos&here! it is then that they understand the a'strusest of thoughts even
if they 'e uneducated "ut how few are there of that nature7

*n the afternoon * came again to Swami/i and saw +uite a good gathering round him The
to&ic was the ?adhura)"h,va or the way of worshi&&ing God as hus'and! as in vogue withsome followers of Shri @haitanya 0is occasional 'ons mots were raising laughter! when
someone remarked! 2-hat is there to make so much fun of a'out the Lord%s doings5 Do you
think that he was not a great saint! and that he did not do everything for the good of
humanity52
Swamii! -ho is that7 Should * &oke fun at you then! my dear sir7 Aou only see the fun of it!
do you5 .nd you! sir! do not see the lifelong struggle through which * have &assed to mould
this life after his 'urning ideal of renunciation of wealth and lust! and my endeavours to
infuse that ideal into the &eo&le at large7 Shri @haitanya was a man of tremendous
renunciation and had nothing to do with woman and carnal a&&etites "ut! in later times! his
disci&les admitted women into their order! mixed indiscriminately with them in his name! and
made an awful mess of the whole thing .nd the ideal of love which the Lord exem&lified in

his life was &erfectly selfless and 'ereft of any vestige of lust6 that sexless love can never 'e
the &ro&erty of the masses "ut the su'se+uent Vaishnava Gurus! instead of laying &articular
stress first on the as&ect of renunciation in the ?aster%s life! 'estowed all their Beal on
&reaching and infusing his ideal of love among the masses! and the conse+uence was that the
common &eo&le could not gras& and assimilate that high ideal of divine love! and naturally
made of it the worst form of love 'etween man and woman
Q" "ut! sir! he &reached the name of the Lord 0ari to all! even to the @hand,las6 so why
should not the common masses have a right to it5
Swamii! * am talking not of his &reaching! 'ut of his great ideal of love —the R,dh,)&rema!
