WHO IS THE LVMA?

The Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA) was founded in 1905 and incorporated in 1953.

LVMA Mission and Goals:

Advance the science and art of veterinary medicine and

its relationship to the public's health and biological sciences and agriculture in the state of Louisiana.

Promote the health of all species and to extend to the

agricultural community and the community-at-large the benefits of sound and progressive leadership in the diagnosis and treatment of animals.

Foster, maintain and enhance public understanding of

the nature of the veterinary profession.

Do all things necessary and desirable to further high

standards of care in the treatment of animals and continuing standards of excellence in the professional training and continuing education of doctors of veterinary medicine.

Promote goodwill among its members and to seek

protection of their rights and privileges.

Advance the maintenance of ethical standards which

reflect the learned nature of the profession and the peculiar responsibilities of the veterinarian to the whole community of Louisiana.

Foundation—The purpose of the Dr. Walter J. Ernst, Jr.,

Veterinary Medical Foundation is to stimulate concern

for the health and welfare of domestic and exotic

animals through public information and to protect the

public health. Donations to the WJE Foundation are

gratefully accepted throughout the year The WJE

Foundation is chartered to accept cash gifts, estate

donations, memorials or other negotiable assets, which

of a collection system for delinquent accounts.

YOUR MEMBERSHIP STRENGTHENS

VETERINARY MEDICINE

Veterinarians invest a large amount of time and

money to earn the D.V.M. degree and to become a

part of the veterinary profession. Don’t leave the

future of your profession solely in the hands of

others. Support organized veterinary medicine by

joining the LVMA today and let your voice be

heard.

WHAT DOES THE LVMA DO FOR ME?

Benefits of Membership:

Continuing Professional Education—The annual LVMA

Winter Meeting is a must for every veterinarian. State of the art continuing education is presented, enabling Louisiana veterinarians to offer the highest level of veterinary care to their patients. Members receive substantial discounts on registration fees for meetings.

Legislative Support—The LVMA and its lobbying team

monitor all proposed state legislation which could have an impact on the profession. Strong legislative involvement protects the practice of veterinary medicine. With the best interest of all veterinarians in mind, the LVMA is actively involved in crating and shaping legislative issues that could enhance or restrict the practice of the profession. The association’s legislative efforts are enhanced by the LVMA-PAC (Political Action Committee), which is supported by non-dues income of the association and voluntary contributions of Louisiana Veterinarians.

Member Communications— Every member receives The

Louisiana Veterinarian, the association’s bimonthly newsletter. LVMA members count on its publication for accurate and timely information on legislation, continuing education programs, legal matters, committee activities, member services, and news about their peers. The LVMA website (www.lvma.org) also provides up-to-date information on the association, its activities, and issues related to the veterinary medical profession.
