TSD  is  an  international  hunting  and  fishing  company  with  resorts  in  Uruguay  and  Mexico  that  offers  unique   trips   for   the   seasoned  outdoorsman.  The   June  edition  of   the  online  newsletter  sent  to  email  subscribers  gives  updates  on  seasonal  hunting  packages  as  well  as  reviews  from  previous  patrons.

Thompson  Sporting  Destinations,  July  Online  Newsletter  ……………………………………..................                        5  The   July   edition   of   the   online   newsletter   was   the   first   to   feature   TSD’s   new   Guatemala  location.  It  showcased  the  features  of  the  Mexico-‐based  resort,  as  well  as  the  highlights  of  its  unique  fishing  elements.

Thompson  Sporting  Destinations,  Spring  Break  Flyer  …………………………………………..................                      6  Created   to  generate  business   for  Guatemala’s  optimal   fishing   season,   this   flyer   targeted   the  local  Baton  Rouge   college   community   for   spring  break  and  graduation.   Flyers  were   passed  out   at   various   college   hotspots   and   also   sent   via   email   to   Louisiana   State   University  fraternities  and  sororities.

Thompson  Sporting  Destinations,  Newspaper  Ad  …………………………………………………..  ………..                    7    Due  to  a  limited  advertising  budget,  this  ad  was  created  to  specifically  target  college  students  in  the  Baton  Rouge  area.    It  is  a  simplistic  ad  intended  to  pique  interest  enough  to  draw  traffic  to  the  website  and  result  in  contact  with  the  company.

Treasures  of  LSU,  Press  Release  ……………………………………………………………………............................                    8  Treasures  of  LSU  is  a  book  commemorating  LSU’s  150th  Anniversary  and  was  written  by  four  professors  at  LSU.  Work  for  Treasures  of  LSU  was  part  of  a  Public  Relations  case  studies  class  project.  Work  was   done   to   promote   the   publication   of   the   book   and   it’s   launch   in   the   Fall  2010,  kicking  off  the  LSU  150th  Anniversary  celebration.

Mary  Bird  Perkins  Cancer  Center,  Fundraising  Event  ……………………………………………................    9  -‐  11  Mary   Bird   Perkins   is   a   Louisiana   non-‐profit   radiation   cancer   facility.   It   hosts   numerous  fundraising  events  through  the  year.  The  ‘Geaux  Pink  for  a  Cure’  event  was  created  to  broaden  the   donor   demographic   and   appeal   to   local   high   school   and   college   students   to   create  awareness  for  breast  cancer  and  the  need  for  fundraising.

LSU  Department  of  Electrical  and  Computer  Engineering,  Media  Advisory  ………………………  12  -‐  13  The   LSU   Department   of   Electrical   and   Computer   Engineering   (ECE)   was   part   of   a   Public  Relations   writing   class   semester-‐long   project.   Work   for   ECE   was   done   to   increase   media  coverage  on  campus  and  supplement  its  understaffed  public  relations  department.  This  media  advisory,  which  was  sent   to  on  campus  news  outlets  and   the  ECE  website  highlighted  ECE’s  participation  in  LSU  Day  on  campus.

LSU  Department  of  Electrical  and  Computer  Engineering,  Press  Releases  …………………….…    14  -‐  17  Additional  work   for   ECE   included   keeping   the   department   and   its   students   in   the   press   for  events  going  on  throughout  the  semester  and  any  news  relevant  to  the  LSU  community.  These  two  press  releases  feature  the  Interim  Department  Chair  who  was  assigned  in  the  wake  of  the  death  of  his  predecessor  and  an  annual  ECE  event  hosted  by  its  students.

Photojournalism  Class  Project,  Contributing  Article  for  The  Legacy  ………………………………        18  –  21  The  Legacy   is  an  on  campus  magazine  to  which  my  Public  Relations  photojournalism  class  contributed  articles  throughout  the  semester.  This  article  was  written  during  football  season  to  discuss   the  process  of  buying  and  selling  student   football   tickets  and  the  overall   student  experience  at  a  game.

Our expectations were met or exceeded every single day – there was not one single thing that didn’t go right. Juan Pablo and the staff at San Cirilo ran the lodge like true professionals.

Sure, we shot lots and lots of birds and had excellent hunting but the highlight of the trip was reflecting back at the end on the combination of many little things over a 4.5-day period

that produced a flawless hunting experience. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((.(Brent Gaddis, California /(

CELEBRATING  THE  TREASURES  OF  LSU

Baton  Rouge,  LA  –  May  10,  2010.  Louisiana  State  University  (LSU)  celebrates  its  150th  Anniversary  this

year  with  a  yearlong  series  of  events,  which  began  in  January  and  culminates  with  the  2010  Homecoming

week  festivities.  Treasures  of  LSU  is  a  commemorative  book  and  highlights  LSU’s  past  150  years.    It  is  a

large-‐format,  high-‐quality  book  and  contains  80  of  LSU’s  most  significant  stories,  buildings,  people  and

events.

Each  department  on  campus  submitted  what  it  thought  could  be  a  treasure  and  a  committee  picked  the

best  ones.  Four  professors  from  three  schools  on  campus  are  working  on  the  book,  and  LSU  Press  is

publishing  it.    It  will  be  available  for  purchase  in  the  fall.

The  book  is  available  for  pre-‐order  through  its  website  and  can  also  be  purchased  in  retail  stores

beginning  in  September.  The  book  is  a  great  gift  for  current,  future  and  past  students,  as  it  shows  many

historical,  artistic  and  scientific  aspects  of  the  University  of  which  students  may  or  may  not  be  aware.

LSU Day Celebration Showcases Engineering for the Every Day

LSU celebrates its 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial, this year and plans to have a celebration worthy of such a milestone. A week of events is planned for the LSU community and the general public to celebrate LSU’s past, present and future.

The week of festivities is planned for Nov. 8 – 13, Homecoming week, and will culminate with LSU Day on Saturday, Nov. 13. LSU Day is an interactive day with numerous events and programs that showcase the impact Louisiana’s flagship university has on the community, state, and beyond.

The Engineering College will be hosting an “Engineering Extravaganza: Engineering Transforms Lives” exhibit featuring unique demonstrations and information on LSU’s Engineering programs.

WHO: The LSU College of Engineering is composed of seven departments, many of which will have demonstrations showcasing tasks, concepts, and products that rely on the various types of engineering. Thus, real world applications of a complex study will be tangible. Also, information on each of the engineering departments will be available.

WHAT: “Silly Putty” – Find out what is in this unique substance and its many applications at the Biological Engineering table.

“Cornstarch Conundrum” – Can you walk on liquid? Make your own mixture to find out at the Chemical Engineering table.

“Flyin’ Hawaiian” – Come and see the award winning ChemE Car designed, built and operated by the LSU Student Chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

“Gumdrop Bridges” – Learn about structures by designing your own bridges with gumdrops and toothpicks at the Civil Engineering table.

“Oil Rig Demonstration” – Learn how LSU Petroleum Engineering students are contributing to solving the BP oilrig spill.

“Is Your Environment Polluted?” – Learn how various pollutants, such as oil, affect plants and the world around you at the Environmental Engineering table.

“Mini-Race Cars” – Come and see the award winning mini-race cars designed, built and operated by the LSU Mechanical Engineering students.

WHEN: The Engineering tables and exhibits will be operating from 9am – 1pm on Saturday, Nov. 13.

WHERE: The Engineering tables will be located at the “Field of Excellence,” which is situated on the University Recreation Complex on South Campus Drive near the LSU lakes.

WHY: The LSU Day Engineering Extravaganza gives the Engineering College a chance to demonstrate real world applications of various elements of engineering. These demonstrations will be of interest to both the engineering expert and novice.

LSU Day Media Advisory, 2

Showcasing just a few of the products of an engineer will hopefully spark the interest of future engineers and earn respect from those who benefit from its work everyday.

LSU offers the only graduate-level petroleum-engineering program in Louisiana. This program was ranked eighth in the 2009 edition of US News and World Report’s America’s Best Graduate Schools.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Exxon Mobil and Entergy are two of the seven sponsors of LSU’S 150th anniversary celebration.

Engineering Club Celebrates IEEE Day

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Club hosted its first event of the semester on Thursday. The club sponsored a free barbeque for its members and the department’s faculty to celebrate IEEE day. A combination of 65 students and faculty attended, as well as the Baton Rouge IEEE Section Chair, Mr. O.J. Brouillette. The barbeque took place outside of the Electrical Engineering building where attendees enjoyed the free food as well as music and games. Brouillette presented a check to the LSU Foundation that will benefit the Jorge Aravena Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Aravena passed away in September shortly following the annunciation of his position as Chair of the department. Both Brouillette and Mr. John Scalzo, the undergraduate EE Advisor, shared experiences about and benefits of being IEEE members and encouraged students to join. The LSU branch of IEEE is an extension of the world’s largest technical society and leading professional association for the advancement of technology. Its members inspire a global community through highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards and professional and educational activities. If you would like more information on the IEEE club and upcoming events please go to the website (www.ece.lsu.edu/ieee) or contact the Student Chair, Ritabrata Das by emailing him at [email protected].
