Dear Wildcat, “Starting day one, grade nine”. You either will hear or have heard this expression numerous times throughout your career at Louisburg High School. There is no more fitting phrase to emphasize the importance of what you select to do during your high school years and how those choices will influence your lives after high school. This is true whether it is in the area of academics, extra-curricular activities, or personal development. You are beginning the process of selecting courses for the upcoming year. As you do this, remember that those courses you select—“starting day one, grade nine”—will affect what you become in the future. Looking for the easy way out and only taking courses that demand the least effort will result in disappointment once you take an active part in the “real world” of adulthood. Learn from those who have been there, and take the advice of LHS graduates. Students who return almost always say it is important that you stretch yourselves in school and take courses that will challenge you academically and/or physically. They often regret the choices they made in high school and wish that they could guide upcoming students with their first-hand knowledge. If you are a freshman, choose wisely, challenge yourself, and take educational advantage of the next four years. For those who are returning students, set high goals and continue striving for them. Take advantage of every year you have, keeping in mind that what you do now will affect whether or not you reach your ultimate goal. As a member of our Wildcat family, I wish you the best of luck as you make these important decisions. Sincerely, Dr. Sally Lundblad Principal

GENERAL INFORMATION and POLICY • Students who desire a schedule change for either

semester should make arrangements with student ser-vices before the semester begins. Late schedule changes will be made as deemed necessary by the administration.

• Classes listed on enrollment forms may be canceled by

the administration if enrollments are low. • Students who have failed a semester or more of a

required subject must either take the course in summer school or retake during the following year, dependent on which course that has been failed.

• To meet the “Fine Arts” graduation requirement a stu-

dent must take at least one full unit credit from any the following: All art classes, all music classes, Forensics, Intro to Theatre, and Drama .

•••• AP Classes will be based on a 5.0 grade point average

scale rather than the traditional 4.0 scale. For example, (when computing grade averages) an “A” will be worth 5 points, a “B” worth 4 points, a “C” worth 3, and a “D” worth 2. An F will still receive 0 points toward the stu-dent’s grade point average. All other classes in the curriculum are based on a 4.0 scale.

• In addition to meeting the district’s course and total-

credit graduation requirements, all students graduating from Louisburg High School must successfully com-plete a Graduation Research Project (GRP). Students will begin working on their GRP proposal during the second semester of the junior year and will be ex-pected to complete their project, as well as the re-search document, portfolio, and oral presentation dur-ing their senior year.

By using the Kuder Career Planning System, students will develop a personalized online career portfolio linked to assessment results, and online exploration that can be main-tained and used throughout their lives. The three different types of writ-ten documents for the senior Graduation Research Project (GRP) will be covered in detail.
