I would like to take this time to pay tribute to all my staff for all their hard work, passion, and love that goes into being a successful teacher and staff member.

“Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system.” Hook

“Excellence in education is when we do everything that we can to make sure they become everything that they can.” Tomlinson

May is the month in which we appreciate and reward the staff’s hard work. The teachers at our school foster a growth mindset for themselves and our students.

We learn from our mistakes, take risks, motivated to succeed, put forth more effort, take challenges head on, seek feedback, learn more, and learn faster.

It has been a pleasure and privilege to watch each child’s personality unfold day by day and year after year, and marvel at the miracle of each one’s development. Each child has a special place in our hearts, and we truly feel grateful for their presence with us. We will truly miss each child that does not return to us in the fall.

I would like to take this time to give a big WOOT WOOT to our dedicated PTO members and volunteers for the 2016-17 school year. We have an archery program, new equipment for the playground, Gaga Ball pit, IXL, National Geographic Magazines, the rent of the portable planetarium, water bottles, take home folders, snacks for testing, new t-shirts in the fall, and the list goes on… Consider joining us next year.

We have many activities planned for the month of May. We hope that you will join us as you are able. Watch the correspondence that comes home in the backpacks.

Have a wonderful safe summer filled with many fun family outings. See You In The Fall.

Free (or Almost Free) Summer Fun Ideas

Many parents are looking for low-cost activities to keep kids busy this summer. Play-ing in the sprinkler, climbing trees and catching lightning bugs don’t cost a thing, but they certainly make for happy childhood memories.

Older children are ready to start planning their own summer adventures, but may need a few ideas to get them started. Here are few from the PBS parent website. www.pbs.org

Flashlight Tag

There’s something magic about being allowed to play outside at dusk on a lazy summer evening. Make it even more memorable with a game of flashlight tag. Played at dark, this classic game combines tag with hide-and-seek. The person who is “it” counts to ten (or higher) while others hide. The person who is “it” must find the other players and call their name while shining a light on them to tag them.

Backyard Camping

There’s no need to send youngsters to sleep away camps to get a taste of the great outdoors. Set up a tent (borrowed from a neighbor if necessary) in your own back-yard, roll out the sleeping bags and melt marshmallows in the microwave for S’mores. The best part? If storm clouds or frightened children threaten the success of your campout, you can run inside to your own beds.

Scavenger Hunt

Set up your own amazing race by sending your child or a group of children hunting for simple treasures in your house, yard or neighborhood. Because it takes a little effort to come up with the clues, enlist an older sibling or neighbor to help out.

Small Business

There has never been a better time to teach your children the value of a dollar, so let kids put the “small” back in small business. The old-fashioned lemonade stand or fami-ly yard sale remain good choices. But let your children’s interests and abilities guide them toward a fund-raiser that makes sense: a dog wash, a car wash, bake sale or lawn mowing service.
