LOUD DRUM ROLL Please – the results are in!!!
MORE THAN 8 MILLION MINUTES LOGGED DURING in motion™ CHALLENGE
The numbers are in!
London and Middlesex County residents took up the month-long
in motion™ Community Challenge in October, smashing the total number minutes
logged in 2014.
The totals were counted from the in motion™ app and the paper trackers to reveal
more than 8.3 million minutes of physical activity completed by 19,773 people.
This was the third year for the Challenge which first started in 2013, achieving 2.1
million minutes and 2,366 participants.
In 2015, the in motion™ committee’s goal was to surpass the 2014 totals of 4.7 million
minutes and 11,600 participants.
Even with the increased participation in the 2015 in motion™ Community Challenge,
the committee’s ultimate hope is that more and more local residents build increased
physical activity into their lives and routines.
“We are so impressed with the way the community embraced the Challenge for
the third year in a row. The increased participation shows that living a healthier
life is important to our community,” says Mary Lou Albanese, Chair of Middlesex-
London in motion™.
“The success of this event isn’t just that people were active for a month, it’s that they
make a big step towards changing the way they think about being active. It’s about
making physical activity a regular part of your lifestyle.”
The in motion™ Challenge is a great way to raise awareness about the importance of
physical activity while encouraging people to get active; something organizers hope will
continue long after the Challenge has wrapped up.
The in motion™ Community Challenge is a collaborative effort of Middlesex-London in
motion™, the broad-based community initiative whose goal is to promote healthy and
active living in London and Middlesex County. Middlesex-London in motion™ is
grateful for the support and participation of the community organizations and agencies,
and municipalities who were involved in this year’s Challenge.
Stay tuned for plans for 2016!

Webinar: Employee Well-being Across Ages & Life Stages
Free webinar - December 3, 2015 at 2pm ET
Multiple generations working side by side isn't anything new. But as employees span multiple
ages and life stages, their priorities, needs, and work styles fluctuate too. What works for one group may not work for another – and if you’re not careful, all these
differences can add up to some serious workplace tension.
Regardless of generation, though, people want to take care of their well-being. But well-being
looks different at various ages and life stages.
What gets in the way of being well for a 20-something and a 50-something is going to be vastly
different. Register here…. http://community.virginpulse.com/employee-well-being-across-ages-life-

Use your mind to scan and calm your body
How to take this break
Take a break (in silence or with calming music) and start to focus on each area of the body - starting
from the tips of your toes and working up to the crown of your head. Focus on achieving a sense of
relaxation in each body part while scanning the body. Think about what you feel, what you hear and
what you smell. This will help distract you from the pressures of the day by letting you get in touch with
your senses.
Why this counts - Calming
Sometimes we're not even aware of the stress we carry in our bodies. Once we learn to identify what
we're feeling, we're better able to release the stress we might be experiencing both physically and
mentally.

Work some yoga into your day
How to take this break
Co-workers can actually stay at their own desks and a meeting reminder could be sent daily to
encourage staff to take this break time. Link to Yoga @ your desk
Why this counts - Relaxing
Yoga breaks during the workday can help employees relieve stress and become refreshed and more
focused for the rest of the workday.

Five Rules to Live By to Avoid Being a Whiner From: O'Leary, T. (2006). Warriors, workers, whiners, and weasels: the 4 personality types in business-and how to manage them to your advantage. Katonah, NY: Xephor Press.
1. "Nobody owes you anything. If you want it - earn it yourself. 2. You possess the control over your life and success. Don't depend on anyone else to help
you get there. If, along the road a mentor or some other helpful individual crosses your path, then
consider yourself luckier than most, and try to pass the benefit on to someone else when
you are able.
3. Always concentrate on 'you' not 'them.' Obsessing about others won't get you where
you want to go.
4. Avoid 'analysis paralysis.' Many people fall into the trap of analysis paralysis, over-
thinking situations instead of taking action.
Enjoy the ride: you have only one life to live. Millions of people are unhappy not because of
any real condition in their lives that warrants their sadness, but just that they can't allow
themselves to enjoy the ride (p. 171-178)."

Effective Managers – November 2015 – Dwight Mihalicz -
To Thine Own Self Be True: Authenticity in the Workplace “You trust your team, but you’ve got to trust yourself. Or you’re inauthentic. You’ll know it first.
Everyone else will know it second. By the time they notice, you’re too far gone.”– George Strombolompolous
I came across this quote from Canadian media personality, George Strombolompolous, in a
recent edition of Canadian Business magazine. It really resonated with me. As a manager—particularly as a new manager or as a manager in a
more senior role—the accountability and authority newly bestowed upon you can be a heavy
load to bear. Not only are you accountable for your own output, but you are now also
accountable for the output of your team…. http://www.effectivemanagers.com/dwight-

Trusting Organizations don’t just happen! How do you create, and more importantly, instill trust in your organization? It’s an important
issue, considering our research shows only 65 percent of managers feel clear about the
accountability that has been delegated to them. That means over a third of the managerial
workforce doesn’t have the clarity they need to do their job. Keep Reading
