The Bird GardenOpened on the site of the old kitchen gardens, the bird collection has developed into one of the most impressive and important in the country with species from across the world on display. The Bird Garden is a registered zoo and participates in global conservation programmes working with some of the rarest species, including the critically endangered Bali Mynah.

Come along and discover the world’s largest land-based flying bird, the Andean Condor. Walk through African habitat and be surrounded by a magnificent selection of African birds wading, diving, nesting and flying in one of the largest free-flight aviaries in Europe.

Stable Courtyard Relax in the café and indulge in our range of delicious cakes and pastries baked on the premises using secret recipes. If you don’t have a sweet tooth there are sandwiches, soups and tasty hot snacks.

The Playground Burn off some energy in this popular activity playground with fun for all whether you’re a toddler or big enough to try out the zip wire and scramble nets.

The HallFor 40 years Lotherton has been a treasure house of fabulous fashion, art, ceramics and furniture.

Explore the charming Edwardian rooms and imagine yourself living in this beautiful and comfortable residence. Once home to the Gascoigne family, local land and mine owners, this regency villa was considerably extended in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

During 2009 to commemorate the anniversary of the public opening, Lotherton Hall will be celebrating the history of the house, the family and the local community. Special exhibitions will feature the history of the local community and the people who lived and worked here in the house and on the estate.

The fashion galleries will take you back to the sixties and into the seventies and show how British couture designers have impacted our high street shopping today. Come and see some of the designs made famous by designers such as Quant, Rhodes and Wainwright.

The Gardens and Grounds

Enjoy the parkland, woodland and beautifully tended formal Edwardian gardens created by Gwendolen Gascoigne.Stroll through the‘garden rooms’ each with its own distinctive character.

Try one of the walks around the estate: the Captain Wood Walk, a short trail suitable for prams and wheelchairs or the Boundary Trail, a circular walk with views of the open countryside. You may catch a glimpse of the graceful herd of red deer grazing in the Deer Park.

Gift ShopThere are two gift shops to dip into. Visit the shop in the house for a range of toys, gifts and souvenirs. In the Courtyard shop you’ll find kites, gardening gifts, old-fashioned sweets and all you need to encourage wildlife into your garden.
