The current enrollment is approximately 2170 students. Nearly 20% of our students speak a language other than English and 10% were born outside the US. The LGHS strategic focus goals include three major areas: relevant and engaging learning experiences; student wellness, balance and belonging; and crea.ng a culture of collabora.on and innova.on. LGHS reflects the tradi.ons, values and philosophies of its community and is proud of its robust course pathways, including honors and Advanced Placement as well as project-based, STEM-related classes. Students par.cipate in over 70 academic, athle.c and community service ac.vi.es that annually raise over $100,000 for chari.es and non-profit organiza.ons. Los Gatos High School has been recognized as a California Dis.nguished School and is accredited by the Western Associa.on of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Academic Programs LGHS offers academically challenging courses. While 72% of LGHS students have taken at least one AP course, our students value balance and crea.ve curriculum. LGHS offers approximately 85 elec.ves op.ons, three world language programs, and a variety of specialized pathways highlighted below: LEAD (New Tech Program) An interdisciplinary 4-year pathway emphasizing student-driven inquiry and guided explora.on. LEAD students work individually and in groups to solve real world problems. LEAD classes have embedded honors op.ons in history, science and English courses. Elec*ve Pathways Students can elect to follow an elec.ve pathway in Visual, Spa.al, Media, Culinary or Performing Arts by comple.ng 5 elec.ve courses and a culmina.ng poriolio. Each year, approximately 20 gradua.ng students complete this pathway and 20% complete the highest level in a single elec.ve. Advanced Science Research ASR offers a unique opportunity for par.cipa.ng students to conduct individual research projects and compete in the Synopsys Science Fair, most taking home awards. Second and third year students can enroll in AP Research, beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. Partner & CTE Programs Each year dozens of our students par.cipate in Middle College and College Advantage in partnership with West Valley College, and in the half-day technical educa.on programs at the Silicon Valley Career Technical Educa.on campus. School Structure Classes meet for 90-minute periods on alterna.ng block days. Students may take up to six classes with a seventh period available for athle.cs and some elec.ve course op.ons. Five units are awarded for each semester class. Grades and units are assigned in December and June. During each 18-week semester, students may take a maximum of 35 units. Grading Academic weighted, four-point system, grade point average: A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0 Includes all courses in grades 9-12, except PE/Sports and Teacher/Office Assistant.
