Note of the NightTwo step – Alex Ovechkin has recorded at least one goal and two points in five straight games, matching the longest such streak in Capitals history. Dennis Maruk did the same in 1980-81. Ovechkin's four points last night at Anaheim (1g-3a) marked a season high, and give him 14 points (6g-8a) and a +12 rating in his last five games.

Five More Notes No Media Person Should be WithoutWhat slump? – Alex Ovechkin's 22 points on the season put him in a tie for sixth in NHL scoring despite starting the season with just five points in his first nine games. His totals through 16 games played are four points ahead of his pace at the same time last season, when he went on to lead the league in scoring with 112 points.

First 16 Games G-A-PTS +/-2008-09 8-14-22 +182007-08 10-8-18 +4

Power to the people – The Capitals have scored a power-play goal in five of their last six games and is clicking at 30.4% on the power play in that time (seven-for-23). The three power-play goals Washington scored last night at Anaheim were a season-high.

Streaking – Washington is 6-0-2 in its last eight games, its longest stretch without a regulation loss since a 10-0-2 stretch over 12 games in 2000-01 (Jan. 28-Feb. 24, 2001).

Turning one – Head coach Bruce Boudreau was hired almost exactly a year ago, Nov. 22, 2007, and has coached 79 games, almost the equivalent of an 82-game season. Boudreau's 48-21-10 record would put him on a 110-point pace in a full season.

Washington's 11-4-3 record through 18 games puts them 13 points ahead of their pace from the same time last season (6-11-1).

King for a day? – The Kings are one of only three NHL teams that Alex Ovechkin has not scored a goal against. The Capitals face the

other two – San Jose and Minnesota – in their next two games.

One-Timers– Washington has scored at least one goal in 13 straight regulation periods– Eleven players have assisted on Alexander Semin's 13 goals– Four of Jeff Schultz's seven assists have come in the last 10 minutes of the game– Washington is now 1-0-1 when playing on the same day as a Presidential election– Alex Ovechkin attempted his fourth career penalty shot in the opener, the most in Capitals history (Peter Bondra and Mike Gartner each had three)– The Capitals have three of the eight active Hart Trophy winners in the NHL (Alex Ovechkin, Jose Theodore and Sergei Fedorov)

More Caps NotesStart me up – The Capitals have led after the first period in six straight games. The Capitals are 7-1-1 when leading after the first period this year. Washington leads the league with 24 first-period goals, 14 of which have come in the last six games. Washington is 7-0-1 when it scores more than one goal in the first period and 2-2-1 when it has been held scoreless in the first period.

California dreamin' – Eight players on the Capitals' roster played their first NHL game in the state of California last night: Nicklas Backstrom, Eric Fehr, Tomas Fleischmann, Mike Green, Milan Jurcina, Jeff Schultz, Tyler Sloan and David Steckel. Washington's last visit to California was a 3-2 win at Anaheim on Jan. 13, 2006; the Capitals posted a 3-2 win at Los Angeles earlier that season.

Turning another one – Alex Ovechkin, who led the NHL with 22 power-play goals last season, scored his first goal with the man advantage last night at Anaheim.

Goal getter – Nicklas Backstrom had his assist streak stopped at five games last night, but did score a goal for the third time in four games. The NHL's First Star of the Week, Backstrom has 13 points (3g-10a) and a +11 rating in his last six games, including his first career five-point game Saturday at New Jersey.

Spreading the wealth – Two times in the last four games a Capital has recorded five points in a game, and neither one was by Alex Ovechkin: Alexander Semin had two goals and three assists Nov. 12 at Carolina and Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and four assists Nov. 15 at New Jersey. Before that, the last Capital other than Ovechkin to record a five-point game was Jaromir Jagr on Jan. 11, 2003.

Positive thinking – Washington has the NHL's top two players in plus/minus rating (Alex Ovechkin and Alexander Semin) and four of the top nine players. Nicklas Backstrom (+12) and Mike Green (+10) are among the leaders as well. Semin has never finished a season with a positive rating and was -18 last season.

Net results – Jose Theodore and Brent Johnson have combined for a 6-0-2 record, a 2.12 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage in Washington's last seven games (18 GA, 250 saves, 488 min.).

In a Flash – Tomas Fleischmann has seven goals through 18 games, including a career-best three-game goal-scoring streak, and is just three shy of his career-high in goals, established last season. Fleischmann has had at least one shot on goal in 17 of 18 games. Six of Fleischmann's seven goals have come on the road.

Fight to the finish – Washington has scored in the last minute of a period five times this year, all in the last seven games. None was more dramatic than Alex Ovechkin's game-tying goal Saturday at New Jersey at 19:59 of the third period.

Fight to the finish II – Washington has earned at least a point in seven of the 11 games in which it has fallen behind at some point (4-4-3).

Go West – Washington has been above .500 against Western Conference opponents each of the last three years; before that the Capitals had been under .500 against the west for six straight seasons. The Caps are 5-2-0 against Western teams so far this season, 2-1-0 against the Pacific Division.

Young guns – Alexander Semin, Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green rank 1-2-3-4, respectively, on the team in scoring and all are between 20 and 24 years old.

A real winner – Washington is 15-0-1 in the last 16 games in which Alex Ovechkin has scored a goal (5-0-1 this season). The last 30 games in which Ovechkin has scored a goal the Capitals are 25-3-2, and since head coach Bruce Boudreau took over behind the bench they are 29-6-5 when he scores.

More winners – Washington is 8-1-1 when Mike Green has a point. The Capitals are 7-1-1 when Alexander Semin scores a goal or Brooks Laich has a point.

Outshot but not outgunned – The Capitals have been outshot in five of their last seven games, but have not lost in regulation in that time. On the year the Capitals are 5-1-3 when being outshot by their opponent.

Double digits – The Capitals, with 10 wins in their first 16 games, reached 10 victories faster than all but one team in club history (13 games in 1991-92, 10-3-0). Last year Washington earned its 10th win in its 29th game, Dec. 8.

Home run – The Capitals, who are in the midst of five straight games on the road, are unbeaten in regulation in their last 14 regular-season home games (13-0-1). The Capitals are 7-0-1 at home this year, the only team in the East and one of only two in the NHL without a regulation loss at home.

Multiplication tables – Alexander Semin has nine multiple-point games in 16 outings this season, two more multi-point games than he had all of last season.

Matter of time – Five Capitals have seen their average ice time increase by more than two minutes through 17 games this season: Tomas Fleischmann, Mike Green, Brooks Laich, Alexander Semin and Jeff Schultz.

Activision – The Washington defense has either scored or assisted on 36 of the Capitals' 61 goals (11g-27a).

Misters October – Washington went 5-3-1 in the month of October, the best winning percentage in the first month of the season since going 7-4-2 to start the 1997-98 season (which ended with a trip to the Stanley Cup final).

Russian revolution – Sergei Fedorov, who has points in eight of his 12 games (4g-5a), broke the NHL record for career goals by a Russian-born player with his 474th and 475th Oct. 25 in Dallas. Fedorov also holds the record for points and assists by a Russian player.

Wherever you put me – Sergei Fedorov has four goals and an assist in his last six games at center and three assists in his last four games on defense.

Call it a comeback – Washington has trailed by two goals or more in two of its victories. The Washington's comeback from a 3-0 deficit Oct. 16 in Pittsburgh was the first time the Capitals have won a game in which they trailed by three goals since Nov. 6, 2006 (a

4-3 overtime win against Ottawa). The Capitals are .500 (4-4-2) in games in which they have trailed at one point.

Los Angeles KingsHead Coach

Terry Murray

Notes: CAREER RECORD VS. WASHINTON: 11-12-4

VS. WASHINGTON IN 2008-09: 0-0-0

Terry Murray was named Head Coach of the Kings on July 17, 2008. He joins the Kings with a wide range of NHL experience as a head coach, assistant coach, scout and player.

Formerly the Head Coach of the Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers and the Philadelphia Flyers, where he led that club to the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals, Murray is the 22nd head coach in Kings history. He entered this season with a 360-277-100 record over 11 NHL seasons as a head coach. Murray spent the past four full seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Flyers.

As the Head Coach of the Flyers for three seasons (1994-95 through 1996-97), Murray compiled a 118-64-30 record. In addition to the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals/Eastern Conference Championship, Murray coached the team to two Atlantic Division Championships (1995 and 1996).

He began his NHL head coaching career with Washington for five seasons (1989-90 through 1993-94) and compiled a 163-134-28 record with the Capitals. In his first season he helped lead the Capitals to the Eastern Conference Finals. Murray also coached Florida for three seasons (1998-99 through 2000-01) and compiled a 79-90-31 record, which included a franchise-record 98-point season and a team-record 43 wins in 1999-00. In all, Murray has guided his club to the playoffs in nine of his last 10 seasons, and he has a 46-43 playoff record as a Head Coach.

Murray has also coached as an Assistant Coach with the Capitals (1983-84 through 1987-88); as Head Coach with the Baltimore Skipjacks of the American Hockey League (from 1988-89 through 1989-90); and as Head Coach with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the International Hockey League (1993-94).

As an NHL defenseman, Murray, 58 (July 20, 1950), played in 302 career NHL regular season games over eight seasons with Washington, Philadelphia (two stints), the Detroit Red Wings and the California Golden Seals/California Seals, who originally drafted Murray in the seventh-round (88th overall) of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft.

A native of Shawville, Quebec, Terry and his wife Linda have two daughters, Meaghan and Lindsey.
