2015 Australian Indoor Open Championships Lord’s Taverners Shield Grand Final (2015) Grand Final Results: Queensland 99 (3) def Victoria 26 (1) Grand Final Umpire: Gary Lowe Player of the Grand Final: David Searle (Queensland) Player of the Series: Brett Wilson (Queensland) VIC 22 ¦ -6 ¦ 6 ¦ 4 ¦ 26 (1 skin) QLD 17 ¦ 37 ¦ 9 ¦ 36 ¦ 99 (3 skins) With Queensland advancing through to the Lord's Taverners Shield Grand Final undefeated in their Indoor Opens round games, the Vics will have known they had a tough task ahead of them. Victoria took to the court with the bat first, opening pair Adam Sims and Nathan Mahar getting them off to a reasonable start scoring 22 from 4 overs. A change in Queensland's bowling attack saw David Searle be brought on, which turned out to be the change Queensland needed. Taking 3 wickets for -15 in the 5th over, this caused a swing the momentum of the game and allowed Queensland to then put the pressure back on Victoria for the remainder of their innings. Chasing Victoria's total of 26, Queensland were in a good position from early on. Their opening pair totalled 17 after 4 overs, but Queensland really put their stamp on the scoreboard when their second pair (Haydn Brumm & David Searle) put on a partnership of 37 runs. Victoria did their best to get back into the game, keeping Queensland's third pair to just 9 runs, but this wasn't enough as Queensland came home 73 run winners. Josh Long and Haydn Brumm from Queensland were the top scorers with the bat in the Grand Final, both scoring 21 runs. Brett Wilson (runs scored: 18. wickets taken: 2. runs conceded: -7. econ: -3.5) put in a strong performance for Queensland, as did David Searle (runs scored: 16. wickets taken: 3. runs conceded: -4. econ: -2), with the umpire of the match naming Searle the Player of the Grand Final.

19 & Under Men’s Grand Final (2015) Grand Final Results: Western Australia 103 (1) def Queensland Maroon 99 (3) Grand Final Umpire: Gaylene Mitchell Player of the Grand Final: Blair Oakley (Western Australia) Player of the Series: Travis Keys (Western Australia) QLD M 26 ¦ 31 ¦ 12 ¦ 30 ¦ 99 (3 skins) WA 24 ¦ 24 ¦ 34 ¦ 21 ¦ 103 (1 skin) As the most tightly contested game out of all Indoor Opens Grand Finals, the 19 & Under Men's GF was certainly one to watch! Western Australia entered this game undefeated whereas Queensland Maroon had only won 4 out of 9 games during the tournament, but this didn't phase the Maroons. Batting first, the Queenslanders were able to score 57 runs after 8 overs due to the strong batting performances of Blaine Schloss (runs scored: 20. STR: 153.85) and Nathan Battaglene (runs scored: 24. STR: 171.43). Western Australia were able to restrict their opposition's third pair to just 12 runs, but the Maroons finished strongly with their final skin making 30 runs. Needing to make triple figures to win the game, Western Australia got off to a good start with their first 2 pairs scoring 24 each, but this still left them just below the Queensland Maroon's total at the same point in the innings. Western Australia's third pair of Brayden Cosson (runs scored: 21) and Jordan Mackie (runs scored: 13) truly set the tone of the match, managing 34 runs from their 4 overs. Although losing a couple of early wickets in the final overs, WA batters Travis Keys and Blair Oakley didn't drop their heads. A highlight within this pair's batting effort was Oakley's big hit into the back net which helped them on their way to finish WA's innings on a total of 103 runs.

Open Men’s Grand Final (2015) Grand Final Results: Australian Capital Territory 74 (2) def Queensland 51 (2) Grand Final Umpire: Michael Guest Player of the Grand Final: Matthew Floros (Australian Capital Territory) Player of the Series: Mitchell Thomas (South Australia) QLD 8 ¦ 22 ¦ 0 ¦ 21 ¦ 51 (2 skins) ACT 3 ¦ 29 ¦ 23 ¦ 19 ¦ 74 (2 skins) Batting first in the Open Men's grand final were Queensland, playing off against ACT. Queensland got off to a good start scoring 12 from their first over before ACT were able to find some wickets and lower the rate of runs being scored, but Queensland ease their way back into the game with the help from stand-in QLD skipper Adam Mcdermott (runs scored: 16, SR: 160) and moved their score to 30 after 8 overs. The ACT bowling attack truly came into play in the second half of the innings. Bringing on 3 different Floros members of the team in a row (in Tim, Benji and Matthew) seemed to be the right move by ACT. Between the 3 of them, they were able to restrict Queensland's third pair to 0 runs. Queensland's Andrew Boyle and Hayden Seale finished off their batting innings with a respectable skin of 21, bringing QLD's total score to 51. ACT would have felt as though this was an achievable total, but would still require a good batting innings to get the desired result. Queensland bowled a tight line and coupled with wickets from Hayden Searle and Rob Fitzgerald, kept ACT's first pair to just 3 runs. The batting efforts of Vinesh Bennett (runs scored: 12, SR: 92.31) and Tim Floros (runs scored: 17, SR: 154.55) allowed ACT to get back in front of where QLD were positioned after 8 overs, moving to 32 runs. The third skin, scoring 23 between them, put ACT in a good position moving into the final overs. Despite the best efforts of Queensland, Grand McDonald and Benji Floros finished on 5 and 14 runs respectively which brought ACT's total runs to 74 and awarded them the title of 2015 Open Men's Champions.

Open Ladies Grand Final (2015) Grand Final Results: Victoria 93 (3) def South Australia 38 (1) Grand Final Umpire: Andrew Hall-Villiers Player of the Grand Final: Danielle Montague (Victoria) Player of the Series: Briony Polkinghorne (Victoria) SA 31 ¦ 13 ¦ -10 ¦ 4 ¦ 38 (1 skin) VIC 21 ¦ 35 ¦ 2 ¦ 35 ¦ 93 (3 skins) South Australia got off to a flying start in the Open Ladies GF, with Stacey Oates (runs scored: 15, SR: 115.38) and Kylie Rattray (runs scored: 16, SR: 145.45) managing to take SA to 31 runs after 8. SA's second pair managed to move their total to 43 after 8 overs, however the Vic's fought back well from here. Using their sharp skills in the field, they were able to take a total of 8 run outs during the game and a strong bowling attack also assisted to dry up the runs. Danielle Montague stood out with the ball for the Vics, taking a whopping 6 wickets - including a double hat-trick in the 12th over! - at an economy rate of -11.5, a clearly deserving recipient of the Player of the Grand Final honours. South Australia finished their batting innings on 38 runs, a total that the Vic's would work hard to chase down. The batting partnership of Nicole Martin and Laura Shaw (1st pair: 21 runs) really set the tone for their team's batting. Team mates Briony Polkinghorne (runs scored: 22, SR: 220) and Kerry Johnson (runs scored: 19, SR: 135.71) also provided strong contributions to the Vic’s batting innings. The bowling efforts South Australian Jessica O’Reilly (RC: 8, wkts: 2, econ: 4) simply wasn’t enough to keep the Vic’s at bay, who finished up 93 runs and earned the title of Open Ladies Champions for 2015.

The awards have been won by some of Australia’s & the world’s best indoor cricketers over the past 14 years. These two award winners stood out at last year’s National Carnival and then at the 2014 WICF World Cup played in New Zealand last September.
