Lewis, who was named the new SAVIN Director in January 2012, talked with Rotarians about the TN SAVIN program now available statewide. TN SAVIN stands for Tennessee’s Statewide Automated Victim Information Notification Ser- vice. It is an innovative service providing crime victims, victim advocates, and other concerned citizens free and confidential notification regarding a particular county in- mate’s release, transfer or escape from participating agen- cies. It can provide registered users access to timely in- formation about particular offender 24-hours a day, over the phone, through the Internet, or by e-mail. This allows victims of crimes to know when their offenders have been released from prison/jail or free on bond. TN SAVIN is a project of the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association, provided by a grant from the Office of Criminal Justice Programs, fund- ed under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration. According to Lewis, when an offender is arrested, the victim is given information on how to register for SAVIN. In 2012, Lauderdale County had 63 victims to register and already in 2013, 23 have registered. For information about SAVIN or to register as a victim, call 1-888-868-4631 or online, www.vinelink.com.
