Horses

Horses were the main reason for NA warfare. They were a sign of wealth and status, the more you had the more powerful you were and the more wives you could have.

Native Americans did not like to kill their enemy at first. They would sneak up to them and touch them with their coup stick. This was a ritual to show who was the bravest warrior of the tribe.

If they were successful they would add a feather to their ‘coup stick’.

ScalpingThe Native Americans would cut the scalp off their enemies in battle, this was because they believed it would prevent the enemy having an afterlife because the spirit would escape from the body.
