June is in the books and summer is here! This past month exposed the Greens
department to a wide variety of challenges with the weather from hand-watering to
squeegeeing greens. Countless days were spent repairing bunkers and playing catch-
up on mowing. Total rainfall exceeded 8.5 inches throughout the month playing havoc
on outings/tournaments and our daily operations. Rain events altered conditions prior to
the Governor’s Cup and eventually lead to the postponement of the Ladies’ Club Cham-
pionship. The positive is that all of the rain allowed me the opportunity to assess the
drainage throughout the property and prioritize for the future.
Plant health is continuing to improve and I’m pleased with the density and rooting
on all our playing surfaces as we move deeper into the summer months. There are a
couple of tidbits I’d like to pass on as reminders during these stressful months.
You’ll notice a lot of hand-watering throughout the property as temperatures rise, this
technique will go a long way in improving plant health with site specific watering
while achieving firm and fast playing conditions. The assistants and myself will
be lapping the property each afternoon checking greens, tees and fairways. Alt-
hough, we don’t want to interfere with play, you will from time to time see us wa-
tering and we promise to be swift in conducting the task. The #1 injury in the turf
industry is via a golf ball, so we ask for your patience as we try to provide the
championship conditions you deserve.
We have been extremely pleased with the cart traffic as play has increased. Thank
you for being respectful to the ropes and directional markers around tees and
greens. As the stressful period approaches, it is important that we continue to
follow those practices and keep carts on the paths near greens and tees. Addi-
tionally, I encourage you to keep your carts in the fairways as long as possible
prior to exiting at the approach. Our bentgrass/poa mixed fairways are far more
tolerant to the wear of carts compared to the ryegrass in our intermediates and
roughs.
Steve Poprocky is continuing to show improvement following his accident in late May.
He remains in Harmarville at a rehabilitation hospital where he has begun to walk
and gain additional strength daily. Again, thank you for all the support and well
wishes.
July should be a great month as we prepare for the Club Championship and host-
ing the Ladies Western Championship. As always, I look forward to seeing you on the
course…..ya’ll (or should I say yinz) just leave the rain at home!

have a current LVC Women's golf member to play with and to provide coaching on eti-
quette, golf rules, etc. We will play a scramble in a shotgun format if the first several holes
are open; some may alternatively want to play their own balls. After play, head back to the
Clubhouse to enjoy dinner/drinks together. All women are welcome. The cost for those
who are not golfing members is $50.00, which includes the use of a cart. The fee for golf-
ing members is $10 for the cart. This is a great opportunity for women of various golfing

F . C . SNYD ER SCHOLAR SHIP TOURN AMENT —21S T YEA R!
Save the date! The 21st F. C. Snyder Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday,
August 11th.
In 1993, Mrs. Pat Snyder started and continues to support the F. C. Snyder Memorial Scholarship
Fund in honor of her late husband, Franklin, a long time club member who loved Longue Vue and
particularly our employees. Through the ensuing years, the Fund has greatly helped dozens of
our employees with their education; including caddies, waitresses, pro shop, locker room, greens
and pool workers. The F. C. Snyder Scholarship Fund has given out over $550,000.00 in scholar-
ship aid based on club employment, need, diligence, and grades.
On Saturday, August 10, 2013, we will hold our 21st Annual F.C. Snyder Golf Tournament, the
keystone of our fund raising. Those who have played in the past know what a great day it is and
we hope they will sign up again. This year’s fee is $135.00 which includes a continental breakfast,
golf, cart, golf course refreshments, a sumptuous lunch and great prizes. The event is open to all
members and guests.
However, if you are unable to support the Fund by playing, we are asking that you be a Hole
Sponsor by buying a tee sign. The tee signs are available in three categories, Bronze at $135.00,
Silver at $250.00, or Gold at $500.00.
You can participate by sending a check payable to “Franklin C. Snyder/Longue Vue Club Employ-
ee Scholarship Fund” to Ken Pizzica at the club or you may choose to put it on your account.
Keep in mind that the Fund has been approved by the IRS as a non-taxable foundation.
Thank you.
The F. C. Snyder/Longue Vue Scholarship Committee

MEMBERSHIP U PDA TE
The 20 for 20 & 10 for 10 Member Rewards program was very successful but came to a close on June 30th. The Provisional Program is still being offered through the end of the year. The Membership Committee wishes to thank everyone who has played a part in recruiting and welcoming new members. Many wonderful people have joined the Longue Vue Family in recent months and we are delighted that they are here. Everyone is encouraged to come out for Beer, Bourbon and BBQ on July 19, and welcome the new members! One of the questions the Membership Committee is most frequently asked is How long does the membership process generally take? Once a candidate has been proposed for member-ship and all paperwork received, they must be posted to the general membership for a minimum of 21 days per the Club by-laws. Pending the successful completion of the posting period, review and an inter-view with the Membership Committee, and review by the Board, a decision is made. The process general-ly takes from one to two months. The Membership Committee realizes that not everyone is aware of the Membership Process. Below is an overview of the process which outlines the responsibilities of the sponsor and the process which is in place for all new members. Who Can Sponsor A New Member? Membership at Longue Vue is by invitation only. A candidate for membership must be proposed and seconded by two Charter, Senior or Non-Golfing Senior members of not less than three (3) years and who shall write letters of recommendation to the Membership Commit-tee. At least three other references are required, from across any membership category, and who shall write letters of recommendation to the Membership Committee. Who Does One Contact? As a potential Sponsor, you must contact the Chairman of the Membership Committee or the Membership Secretary, who will ask questions about the candidate and review the pro-cess for obtaining a seconder and additional member references. You will then be asked to fill out a Mem-bership Questionnaire. About the Questionnaire. All sections of the questionnaire should be answered completely by the spon-sor. The Seconder and References should be well known to the Candidate and the Sponsor should verify and receive permission to use their names as references. What Should Sponsorship, Seconding and Letters of Reference Include? Career, personal habits, character and reputation, relationship to the candidate (business, personal, etc.), spouse and family de-tails, why they are interested in joining the Club and their expected use of the Club. The sponsor is re-sponsible for securing letters from the Seconder and References and ensure that all information is re-ceived by the Membership Committee. Once the Questionnaire and Letters have been received, reviewed and approved by the Member-ship Committee, what happens? The Candidate’s background and references will be reviewed by the Committee. If there are no objections upon due diligence, the Candidate’s name will be posted for a minimum of 21 days, per the by-laws. After posting period, the Membership Committee reviews all com-ments and feedback. If no objections are filed, sponsor will be contacted and asked to bring the candi-date before the Membership Committee for an interview. After interviewing the prospective member, the Membership Committee then makes a recommendation to the Board. How is the Candidate then Approved? If the Membership Committee confirms the qualification of the candidate and recommends that the Board of Governors approve the candidate; the Board will then re-view all information and decide whether to extend or deny an invitation to membership at Longue Vue. The sponsor will be notified of the candidate's admittance into membership. 2013 Membership Committee - Jay J. Adams, Chairman, Dr. Jeffrey Baum, Katie W. Everett, R o b -ert. W. Goehring, William R. Shipley, Jason Stewart, Caren Tobin, Scott Troutman, Tod M. Pierce, Manag-er, Jennifer Vanderveld, Assistant Manager, and Patricia Stuchell, Membership Secretary
