London Residential Year 6 had a fantastic time on their three-day residential to London in which they visited some of our capital city’s most famous landmarks and attractions. After travelling down by coach, they first went to the British Museum to look at some of the artefacts from our country’s history on display, such as the Rosetta Stone and the Sutton Hoo treasures. In the evening they then went to the Cambridge Theatre to watch the award- winning musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda which they all thought was absolutely fantastic! On the next day, they then toured around the city’s streets to see sights such as: the Palace of Westminster, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Buckingham Palace. They also enjoyed: visiting the Tower of London, taking a boat cruise on the river Thames and riding around on the London Eye to see the city from above. On their way home on their third day, they visited the Harry Potter Studio tour where they: saw sets from the films, learnt how to ride a broomstick and even ate their lunch sat outside on Privet Drive!

London Residential

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their three-day residential to London in which they visited some of our capital city’s most famous landmarks and attractions. After travelling down by coach, they first went to the British Museum to look at some of the artefacts from our country’s history on display, such as the Rosetta Stone and the Sutton Hoo treasures. In the evening they then went to the Cambridge Theatre to watch the award-winning musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda which they all thought was absolutely fantastic!

First Aid Training

Year 6 were given some first aid training by St. John Ambulance in which they learnt how to: stop a person from choking, put somebody in the recovery position and deal with burns.

Mad Scientist

Years 2-6 had an assembly led by mad scientist Titanium Tilly. She amazed the children with some exciting science such as turning 'water' into 'Vimto' and making a didgeridoo explode!

Jewish Synagogue

Year 5 visited the Manchester Jewish Museum where they learnt about how Jews worship in synagogues and tried on a traditional Kippah and Tallit shawl.

The Lowry

Year 4 enjoyed visiting The Lowry art gallery in Salford to help them learn more about the famous local artist. They: saw his pictures on display, admired the techniques he used to create them and attempted to sketch their own, inspired by his work.

Jorvik

Year 3 enjoyed visiting the Jorvik Viking Centre in York. They: took part in a pretend archaeological dig, examined some real Viking artefacts to find out what everyday life was like in the past and went on a ride through a re-created Viking settlement.

Fun at the Farm!

Reception had a lovely day trip out to Smithills Farm in Bolton in May. Inside the barn they had the chance to stroke and feed some new-born baby lambs; whilst outside they had the chance to: ride on a donkey, feed lamas and travel on a trailer attached to a tractor!

Children in Years 5 enjoyed going on a weekend residential to Robinwood in Todmorden. They took part in a variety of outdoor and adventurous activities such as: climbing, archery, raft building, crate tower building, riding on a giant

swing and artificial caving. They all: had fun, worked together as a team to support each other and tried to do everything.

Wildflower Centre

Year 1 visited the National Wildlife Centre where they created some natural art work and learnt about the habitats in which minibeasts live.

Life Caravan

Every class visited the Life Education Caravan to do a variety of PSHE lessons about their bodies.

Maths Passport Championship

Our best KS2 mathematicians competed against each other to find out who had the best mental calculation skills.

May Day Celebrations

Year 5 took part in Middleton's annual May Day celebrations in Jubilee Park on Bank Holiday Monday. They: helped re-tell the story of the Green Man, read out some poems about the seasons, did some country dancing and performed some May Pole dances in which they wove the colourful ribbons into patterns.

Football Museum

Year 5 took part in a football-themed poetry workshop with a children’s author at the National Football Museum.

Flag Raising

Year 4 joined a flag raising ceremony in honour of local heroes who’d fought in battle.

Hatching Chicks

Some chicks were born in Reception so the children could observe and learn about the first stages of their life.

Summer Events

Lots of fun and exciting events took place in school to celebrate the summer:

Following our year of music tuition with Joanne Astley, KS1 and KS2 held special performances to celebrate 'music from around the world', including traditional songs from: Austria, India and Jamaica.

Year 2 had a lovely day at Lytham St. Annes where they enjoyed: building sandcastles, playing football and having a picnic lunch on the beach.

Year 5 performed a play all about famous scientific discoveries after spending a whole day learning their lines and rehearsing their moves.

The KS2 sing-along children performed some ‘flashmob’ dance routines on the playground at lunchtime.

Bamford house won this year's Sports Day in which children competed against each other in a variety of races on the field!

Both KS1 and KS2 enjoyed having a fun picnic in Alkrington Woods to celebrate the end of the year!
